@olofschroder you could get the same sounds (2.0 made only very minor changes to the sound engine) but at most only 4 sounds at once. The 2.0 upgrade is what adds drum maps giving you 8 sounds mapped across the keyboard. so 8 "zones" times 4 slots = 32 sounds max at once.
a lot of what you hear in the video (the parts that sound like beats) are me playing multiple drum sounds across the keyboard at once. the drum sounds themselves are all normal sound engine sounds, nothing special to 2.0
@909techno and by "at once" i should specify 32 sounds to choose from at once. the polyphony is of course limited to 12 i believe. but you could in theory have access to 32 sounds across the keyboard at once.
A reminiscent of doodling on a modular machine! Great stuff. Damn, I like the original nord lead with the cut outs in the left-lower and right-uppoer corners. The new nord leads, even though may packed with more features, they lack the charm of the original...
@edjwise yes autechre did use this keyboard lke ack in 1997 or so when the NORD first came out. maybe early cause INCINABULA sounds might of come from this NORD. I have this NORDLEAD and let me telL you its great when we sample stuff from it and incorp with other new key boards like the GAIA.
i made this on my synthesizer and uploaded it directly to the internet. this is all done on the synthesizer. i did not edit anything on the computer. this is straight from the synth itself.
Wow, such mean spirited comments. I'm a NL2X owner and I do synth pop/house with mine - this isn't my cup of tea but I'm impressed with your mastery of the machine.
I bought this a few months back.. only I got the rack version... I'm never looking back... I absolutely love the nord lead 1. Highly underrated synth imo. I prefer the 1 over the 2-3.
@Laura041974 you obviously dont know much about electronic music or the history of electronic music...this demo sounds pretty cool to me and i'm sure alot of other people...
i've got a great deal for you! send your nord to my address, and i will post you about 10 Gb of glitchy noises which sound exactly like this, plus a rakeload of VST synths which make these kind of noises. Thankyou, Brilliant. Always wanted a nord. It'll have a better home this way :) Thankyou again!
my understanding is the pcmcia card update gives it 12 voices.
if their is a pcmcia card then it has 12 voices. However it might NOT have the 2.0 update.
I believe the pcmcia card and the voice update all came as a single piece of hardware.
The 2.0 OS was another chip that had to be upgraded. I think most had it all upgraded at once but I've saw at least a few with the extra voices + pcmcia update but not the 2.0 OS (ie. no drum maps).
Be sure to do your own research - I could be wrong.
this is really fantastic, imagine if you recorded the midi output into a daw and then started slicing up the sections you liked. a little automation and you're making some amazing glitched out music
yes, but not as easily. i have a 2x rack as well and it is not as fun because you cannot map the 4 layers on the rack. maybe there is a way around it - it can be done. but not as quickly as on the keyboard versions.
an update. i've messed with my 2x rack some more and it is pretty easy. just not as quick as the keyboard version. basically just one extra shift + button press.
I don't understand how this was made. Would it be possible with any other synth? Are you playing a lot of different notes with the arp? What do the individual slots sound like?
I think : if you make this sort of great sounds with the nord lead 1... I'm sure I did the best thing yesterday and I hope my new Nord Rack 2X will come home very fast !
damn even the 1 sounds as good as the 2x... i've got a rack 2 and wanted a 2x thinking it would sound a lot better but just the algorithms they use seem to be what really make it... sounds very professional considering its digital
I just got the the original Nord Lead two weeks ago i can't even begin to work out how you did that!! There are some amazing beats and sounds in there.
hello 909techno, i'm just wondering does nord lead 2/2x able to produce this kind of sounds or its only nl1 feature? thank you

mine came with it pre-installed. i believe i've seen them on ebay (rarely). perhaps clavia might have some idea who still has them.

@909techno We got ours preinstalled on our electro 3.
We can bitcrush even on the dualflanger settings and the ringmod with the B3. Its sick.

I knew Autechre had one of these things they used live, but I assumed it was for melodic purposes only. You can really hear them in this.
