I've heard it quoted several times that military should be contacted after as short a period as 5 minutes if a plane looses radio contact. If it also turns off its transponder as well, one can only conclude two things: massive electronic failure or hijacking ( a sane captain would never turn off his transponder) , in either case the military would be contacted immediately. & a fighter at mach 1.5 could reach the aircraft within 6 to 10 minutes. sum total: about 15-20minutes.

It is also just fun to speculate about things. (The later is probably a survival trait -- it is good to consider alternatives.)
Also, most people (especially in America) can't think rationally these days.

The order was TO SHOOT DOWN Flight 93.
There was no stand-down because there was never any stand up.

I've heard it quoted several times that military should be contacted after as short a period as 5 minutes if a plane looses radio contact. If it also turns off its transponder as well, one can only conclude two things: massive electronic failure or hijacking ( a sane captain would never turn off his transponder) , in either case the military would be contacted immediately. & a fighter at mach 1.5 could reach the aircraft within 6 to 10 minutes. sum total: about 15-20minutes.

Please... they scrambled 2 fighters out of Otis AFB on Cape Cod - and they were made to fly sub-sonic... so of course they could not arrive on time to do anything. There are many bases much closer to the scene of the attacks, one of the , Andrews AFB was only 10 miles from the Pentagon . And if you look at the timeline it was two hours of consecutive hijacked planes in the air, from first alert of a hijack, to the final crash of flight 93. Where were all of the fighters???

At 2000feet even the AIM7 can knock it out of the sky. I don't think you guys still carry anything older than that. So jeffmay is agreeing at 09:54 the aircraft was reached operationally. And even an unarmed F16 can force down a commercial aircraft as fighters have done many times, by ramming the cockpit with the belly of the fighter. Now days they can even eject at the last minute.

Same as if the bank didn't pick up the phone.
Payne had every reason to be out of contact.
The FREQUENCY CHANGE, you just don't understand aircraft and radio's PAL. You turn dials on the radio to select the frequency (or such like) Mistakes can be made, they don't scramble fighters every missed call DUMBO. NOT 76 minutes.

If you are now saying that Payne's plane is not a good example, then why did you bring it up as the example. Reality is, NORAD intercepted 1 single plane in the 10 yrs prior to 9/11. And from the moment it was out of contact, it took 76 minutes before they caught up to it. So on 9/11, they had no experience in actually chasing down planes. The radio broadcast that said "we have a bomb on board" was a plane that hit the towers, and there were F16's in NY within 10 mins of the second plane crash.

No Osama??? What are you 12? Do you have a clue about the world? Osama had been on the radar for years before 9/11 and had killed many Americans before 9/11, so if you don't even think there is an Osama Bin Laden, then you my friend are in very deep trouble. Call an ambulance now and seek help. Not just from on specialist though, make sure you get a whole team of them, working around the clock just to help you. Then and only then can we actually have some type of intellegent conversation
