Wow that flower is gorgeous! How come mine never go to flower? All I get are leaves every year and those baby growths on the bulbs. I can't find any tutorials on youtube. O woe is my garden.
@smashleeandserenity - I don't know which part of the world you stay. But I sure know this that for glads to flower day length and temperature are important. Day length of 12-14 hrs, anything more will promote only vegetative growth. temperature should be between 16 - 25 degree celcius.
If the flowers were pollinated by bees or a person the seeds will grow, but it will be several seasons to get good blooms. If they were cross pollinated the resulting plant will be of unknown character and may have no good blooms! That is why most propagate from corms. (bulbs)
Ordinary pods coming from our garden plants can't be grown. They may have seeds in them but are sterile. You need to use the bulb only. By leaving the bulbs in the ground itself for about 3 - 4 seasons you can multiply the bulbs.
Would the seed pod be the female part of the plant? and the male part is the flower?
Also, I live in Ontario and was told to dig the Glad bulbs because they won't come back, are you suggesting leaving bulbs in?
I just dug up the majority of my glads and have have noticed a bunch of very tiny white bulbs beside the new bulbs that grew this year. I hope to plant them next year.
maravilhosa.......
