i agree with mikemorehead71 (below). most singers, if they sang the song str8 with no balogna, wouldn't be able to even come close to the beauty of karen's voice. i just listened to whitney's and celine's versions -- they don't sing it with an overabundance of tricks (for a change) -- and i believe that karen sings it much more beautifully with her smooth, rich, sweet voice.

You never hear voices like this anymore. All the female singers on "American Idol" don't come close to Karen's richness, sensuousness, and resonance. Most of what you hear today are loud screeches, yelling, and over-emoting. Sheesh!

@No1KCfan6 Celine doesn't scream, Whitney does, and she does it well but, Celine Dion having a voice like that she shows a lot of range, which people are surprised by when they listen to her albums instead of her singles, I can only take so much yelling. Christina Aguilera over does it, Lord! But Karen Carpenter is pure, simple, and perfection at its best

@discovery781 Karen had lots of color, depth and inflection. Runs are simply showing off and sometimes hides a mediocre voice. No need for that here. Ultimately the goal is to hear the lyrics and allow the singing to become an instrument to the song

@0425jac That is SO true. The Carpenters are my mom's favorite group, so we listened to them EVERY year at Christmas, and so now her voice has become synonymous with the holiday season for me. haha Christmas isn't Christmas without the Carpenters. :D
