  • I know how to do pointe, I actually taught myself. I'm 13 years old. It's not that painful or dangerous.

  • So what's the point in doing something that is known to be dangerous..?

  • a friend of my 5 year old cousin (layli) started ballet at 1 year!

  • you have great arch, make some exercises to improve mine :)

  • im 11. is that good enough?

  • @Denae2239 Nope :/ MY TEACHER STARTED DOING THAT WHEN SHE WAS 10 AND THEN SHE HAS A FOOT PROBLEM WHEN THE JOINT STICKED OUT SHE HAD SURGERY SO DONT DO IT

  • I do pointe and I am only 11

  • @thejoyofmay WELL GOOD LUCK HAVING FOOT PROBLEMS MY TEACHER STARTED WHEN SHE WAS 10 LIKE MY SCHOOL TEACHER SHE WAS VERY GOOD ..BUT SHE WAS TO YOUNG BECAUSE HER FOOT DIDNT FULLY DEVELOPE STRONG ENOUGH NOW SHE SAYS SHE HAD HER JOINT STICKING OUT BUT SHE HAD SURGERY WAIT TILL YOUR LIKE 13 OR 14 if you dont belive me thats your porblem this lady is right

  • is 25 too late in life to take up ballet?

  • @Opium1958 no, you can take up ballet at any age.

  • @Opium1958 No, you'll just have to work very hard :)

  • @GoldenEraa I know a lot of people are probably asking you questions, but I have not done ballet since I was 8, now in my early 20's it seems no classes will take me at my age. Do you have any recommendations? It's just I lost hope for awhile until I read your comments. :)

  • @DahliaOceana They wont take you? Well thats utter crap. Maybe you should google 'Ballet lessons in___' your area and then ring round some places and ask if they have lessons for advanced learners. It is possible to dance at any age. if they are actually saying they wont take your age that just sort of proves they aren't a very good dance school. :) i hope you find a place that will take you. Good Luck! :)

  • Way to spell pointe wrong in the info box...

  • Please someone answer! Is it possible to stand on your toes, but using usual shoes? I mean sneakers, tennis shoes, u know :)...

  • Boringgg

  • I hate eHow vids.

  • "It is important to know that point work its a very difficult......(omg! I totally forgot what was going next..oo yeah its form) form of dancing..."

  • waaaay to spell Pointe wrong in the info box...

  • Pointe really isnt very painful if you have the correcty fitted shoes, and padding. :{

  • I love pointe although it really is quite painful. For those who think they can do it in sneakers when they sort of jump on their toes for a second, watch some real ballet.

  • it took me a year and a half to get on pointe and believe me its every bit as hard and challenging as they say it is do not try pointe shoes unless you have someone with oyu that can show you how to properly use them.i am now a ballet teacher and it took me years to get to this point . but to all aspiring dancers break a leg and always smile ..

  • I want some pointe shoes so bad

  • I can stand on my toes neaver done ballet and i did it with no shoes like that >:)

  • @ManthyD Very few people can go en pointe barefoot without pain, and while it's not necessarily bad, it may not be good for your feet. If you are a dancer, you should probably talk to your teacher about it. They are smart people who know what they're talking about (hopefully). However if/when you go en pointe with pointe shoes, I'm going to guess that it will be less painful for you than it is for most people.

  • IT TOOK MY FRIEND 2 YEARS TO GET POINTE SHOE READY

  • ehow never fully explains things o-o

  • she spelled pointe shoes wrong in the description. LOL...loser

  • ...why isn't the lady demonstrating? She probably doesn't have pointe shoes. And also mila kunis had a double doing all the actual dancing. You can't become a professional ballet dancer after about 13. Unless you're that girl from nycb but I can't remember her name right now! She started when she was 16 and shes now a soloist

  • is it bad that i can go on the tips of my toes with no pain without point shoes

  • point has an "e" on the end. :XD: "POINTE"

  • Why dont u demonstrate

  • @emmadance161 hahaha okay then! Go curse and be a pleasent little girl *psh*. LMAO

  • one word... OUCH!!!

  • I love ballet, but I'm too tall to do it. T_T and all the joint + foot problems...

  • @DefeatedDreamer I really dont think there is such a thing as being too tall for ballet. The only place height and weight really matter is if your auditioning for a company, or certain dance schools, who often times choose dancers by the way their body's are shaped because they want all the dancers to look the same.

So if its something you really want to do then go for it!

  • she should show a pair of shoes, and have someone who can go en pointe...

  • hmmmmmm... Im 19... do you think it's too late for me to start ballet??

  • @romanz2000 same here. im 13 and i want to learn ballet but my mom ses in too old to start now :T

  • @msfilipinamerican I'm turning 19 and I've just started, I am enrolled in an Adult open class (so there's a mix of beginners and people with experience but haven't danced in years etc). It is so much fun and good exercise! Just contact your local studio, there's bound to be something for your age and for beginners! Tell your mum it's good exercise! And good exercise is a part of having a good health.

  • Not in Bahain

  • @romanz2000 Noooo !!!! It's never to late to start !

  • @romanz2000 noooo sweetie! it is never to late to start just work at it every single day!

  • Any one that say's ballet is impossible over the age of like 13 really doesn't know much.. The film Black Swan that's coming out Mila Kunis is in her 20's and she learned to en pointe in 3 months.. she had only basic ballet training from when she was a child.. so don't listen to people who say you can't do it; It's just the older you are the harder you'll have to work.

  • @GoldenEraa wow you don't understand how much your comment meant to me!!! comments like yours are the only thing that allowed me to start dancing

    :DDD

  • @1991teamjacob No problem :)

  • @GoldenEraa -and Mila Kunis is clearly an actress, NOT a dancer. She does not have good technique in the film (although I love her acting) and that is why body doubles were used. You DO need to be trained from a young age to be a professional. Speaking as someone who trained for 15 years - you're not learning pointe in 3 months, sweetie, sorry.

  • @smarie523 Oh i'm sorry i didn't realise how stupid i really am, i never knew Mila kunis was an actress? :O wow! Thanks for that.

  • I've always wanted to do ballet. going pointe will probably not be in my future considering I'm sixteen and just beginning.

  • @SingerRia

You are still young and you can go into pointe one day with hard work and dedication. You will have to find a qualified ballet school and begin taking a regular class. You will have to make dancing a part of your life, which means dancing everyday. It is hard, but can be done. Do not let anyone discourage your dream. I take an adult ballet class, there is a 72 year-old in my class who has passion for dance. Do not listen to the haters.

  • @SingerRia It doesn't matter how old are you I start doing ballet when i was 14 now I'm starting pointes and I'm 17... so don't give up cuz someday you will use pointe shoes ^^

  • @SingerRia lolz me 2!!! power 2 us 16 yr olds :)

  • POINTE not point

  • Im 12 and i have point shoes and I love ballet i take lessons 4 hours a Day 2 before Luch 2 after Lunch !!! :P

  • if youre 17, and never taken ballet classes, you seriously shouldnt even concider going on pointe.

  • I am on Russian pointe!!!

  • i want to go on pointe! NOW!!!!!!!! but my teacher says i shouldnt and that i shud take some ballet classes first! but it will take years and im 17!!! :(

  • @emmadance161 well you sure don't sound 17. ''i want to go on pointe! NOW!!!!!!!!!!'' If you really ARE 17, then you are very immature.

  • @emmadance161 ummmm dont consider ballet..no offense but your too old to do ballet now. youll probably be about 26 before you go on pointe. especialli if u never taken any ballet classes before. SORRY :(

  • point shoes are not supposed to painful and from my experience they are not

  • ok experts why dont you demonstrate instead of trash talking about her?

  • thanks saved me from years of foot pains!!!!!

  • shes not even wearing pointe shoes >:U

  • Ballerinas stand on their toes VERY CAREFULLY....

  • thmbs up if ur on pointe

  • she can't talk on video ommmmfg. and you spell it POINTE not POINT frickin dumbass.

  • thats true but you also have to be good at it you cant just go up on them its hard!!!!!!

  • god damn those subtitles are retarded. THERES AN E IN POINTE!! gahh i just hate how careless they are sorry folks ill shut up now xD

  • i have a feeling this woman has no idea what she's talking about.

  • HAHA "How does a ballerina stand on their toes" Souldn't it be "How do ballerinas stand on their toes?"?

  • This woman trying to explain pointe work is like BP trying to explain environmentalism.

  • ....lol to get en pointe doesnt take "MANY MANY MANY" Years it takes about 2-3 depending on the dancer... it only to me 2...

  • i went on pointe when i was 9 that should be how old dancers are when they go on pointe unless they've only been in dance for a few years i was in dance for 5 years when i started pointe and im ten and for a residle i had last weekend i was going to be in a dance called raymonda on pointe but i had really bad ingrone toenails so i had them removed so i couldnt be in it

  • FFUUUUUUUUU GOOGLE ADS

  • she really sucks

  • shes an idiot.... en pointe! not on point!

  • POINTE! with an E! POINTE!

  • well if its so darn painful, why do ballet dancers even wear them?!? She needs to explain WHY they wear them & the art & tradition of ballet.

  • @MizzGigi4ever She said in the beginning on the video, dancer go en pointe so they can stand on the tips of their toes.

  • i just got my second pair of pointe shoes, and they're impossible to break in!!!

  • stupid people its spelled pointe shoe

  • ive been a dancer for 2 years and since a year im on point shoes...but for me its nto so hard as everyone says it is...

  • pointe shoes use to be made of wood.

  • i can't find a good place for ballet lessons for my daughter

  • It's "how does a ballerina stand on her toes," not "their toes." Sorry, but that bugs me.

  • The title of the video is plural, so it says "ballerinaS" and "their toes" which is correct. Sorry to burst your grammar-bubble. If it had said "her" or "ballerina" in the singular, you would have been correct.

  • I'm talking about what she says, not what the title says.

  • @amusedchild well actually the title says how do ballerinaS stand on their toes ? so.

  • AGAIN, I'm talking about WHAT SHE SAYS WHEN YOU PLAY THE VIDEO, not what the title says! Listen to her first line! Don't read the title. I'm not responding to the title! Did IQs drop suddenly while I was away?

  • @AmusedChild U r right!

  • i might start to go en pointe next year!

my teacher said that after we've done the show nd got it out of the way, she'll let us! =DD

-ive been dancing for 10 yrs now,, its about time!!! x]

  • very good explanation, but a demonstration would have been really nice!

  • i started doing ballet when i was 3 and stopped when i was 9 due to moving away from where my dance school was. i remember how to do ballet but have never been taught how to do pointe work. i now teach myself by watching ballet videos on the internet. i am getting some pointe shoes for christmas but im not sure if i should now ? what do you think ?

  • You should never go en pointe without a qualified dance teacher's permission.

  • @PinkIce2335

sometimes(most of the time) you have to get a doctor's permission also.

  • @PinkIce2335

I've done that and nothing happened to me, other than the fact that I got stronger muscles and better balance.

  • @xGetTheHellOutx hey, I've done that too but I always get muscle cramps. What do you do when you're on pointe shoes? I mean, what exercises do you do?

  • Never do pointe work on you own, you could do a lot of damage to your ankles ... my tip, look for a school or a private tudor

  • even though it should depend solely on strength, many instructors put students on pointe because they are impatient and dont want to watch each student as closely as they should. if you are not fully over your box en pointe and/or your toes are not straight in your shoes when you stand on pointe, you might not be quite strong enough for pointe work so make sure you get an instructors attention and have them help you so you dont hurt your feet! :)

  • i started ballet in 2009 this year and i went on point pretty much straight away weird

  • U just started? I think u should not be on pointe. wait a couple of years then ull be able to go onto pointe.

  • make sure your feet are very strong- I think that's weird too and generally it's not safe.

  • Correction: Ballerinas do BALLET, NOT POINTE. So technically, they should be called Pointerinas (most people make this mistake)

  • Ballet is ballet regardless of the shoes. A ballerina simply dances ballet en pointe and a young dancer dances ballet in soft shoes. Rofl at "pointerinas"

  • they do ballet en pointe

  • i have pointe shoes. i think its funny how people think many different things about pointe shoes. ok so to all of u who say your old enough for pointe ... your not. it doesn't mater on age, it is how strong your ankles are, and also your core, back, and knees. also, your bones have to be matured enough. if they are still growing, you can deform, or damage your feet. PERMANENTLY!!!

  • I have just started pointe :). theyre actually not that uncomfortable as long as I wear some type of padding. The pointe shoes are so noisy, it gets really annoying :(

  • once your shoes wear down they will start to :P

  • yep. Im use to them. I started pointe at 10. My feet r fine. Im getting use to them soo GOOD LUCK!

  • i wear point shoes and im getting hard to stand on it well i think i need more practice

  • i really want to be able to do pointe but i think im too old to start to learn it coz im like 14 and have never done it .. ive wanted to do it all ma life tho ,,, oh well

  • hey i want to get on toe so badly and im 13- ive been dancing since i was 2 anyways---

its never too late- i have a friend who got on toe after a year!

  • she needs to show what shes explaining. ive watched tons of her videos. she needs examples

  • @luckycharms137 Totally agree. I subscribe to the theory that dancers should have minimum of two years Ballet and 6 months to a year of pre-pointe.

  • I have just discovered this site and find it absolutely wonderful that all the techniques are shared with ballet lovers who were not fortunate enough to have done ballet in their youth!

  • what is the site?!?!

  • If point shoes are made of tightly woven material, why do we sometimes hear their dancing from the stage?

  • cuz they put lots and lots of glue and kinda hardish material.

P.S. Im not on pointe..... YET.

  • thats because its the pointe shoes r kinda hard on the tips. even though they r tightly woven. so u can hear their dancing sometimes because of that.

  • This would have been more helpful with some pictures of point shoes, but not a bad video.

  • excellent explanation, better WATCH OUT ladies!!

  • My daughter is a Rhythmic Gymnast and she needs to constantly be on High Toe(Releve). How can she strengthen her toes and ankles for this?

  • look up theraband exercises.

  • thx for the video! =]
