It will actually curl right around and point toward its head or even back down toward its body. They're usually quite obvious. Do a Google image search for "drake feather" and you'll see what I mean.
If it is fertile then it would keep for several days without being incubated. Ducks lay several eggs before sitting on them so they're designed to survive while waiting for the eggs to pile up. The longer they sit, though, the less likely they are to hatch. Watch your temp and keep it warm now.
i have found a egg in my garden just one we thought the ducks might come back back they didn't. 3-4 days later i have the egg in a little nest and i have a light shining over it! what do i do next????? HELP!!!! PLEASE
@scooter1050 Put a thermometer next to the egg. You need to keep the egg at 99.5º F. They'll hatch even if the temperature varies a little bit but try to stay close to 99.5. You can change it by raising or lowering the light.
You still may have had two females. Ducks lay eggs even if there is no male around, but the eggs aren't fertile without a male. Did either duck have a curly feather on its tail? Did both of them quack quite loudly?
ahh, i remember when my pekin was that quiet... i miss those days! now she's insane! she has the loudest quack and she runs into things regularly! lol, how do you put up with that many?? ♥ erin
It's just background noise to me now. I got used to it. Luck of the draw, I ended up with a lot more males than females. The males have a very weak voice. It sounds a little like they have laryngitis.
I've never raised just one duck. However, I have noticed what I call "lone duck syndrome". If I take one duck out of the bevy and put it somewhere else it will go crazy running around and quaking. If I put any other duck with it, it calms down. Maybe having another duck would help you?
we just got a drake so that we could have babies for 4-H, but shes still as loud! I know what you mean by the weak voices, it's soo cute! i love it! I think my duck is just mentally unstable... lol, thanks for the advise tho!
I will be getting a baby pekin as a pet for myself in a few weeks along with some baby chickens can you give me any advice & do they make good pets?? Nice Vid Btw :)
Ducks are very healthy and reasonably easy to care for. They can't be housebroken, though, so you'll want to keep them outside.
They need free access to feed. If it gets old they may not eat it. So give them enough for a day or two and keep the rest sealed up for refills.
If you give them a bowl for water they'll probably try to swim in it. A good waterer and constant access to water are crucial. If they have access to swimming water they'll be very happy and maintain their health better.
Wood shavings aren't healthy for ducks.... they could slip or swallow them and get sick.

The original ducks I bought from the local Agway. The eggs in these videos were laid by those ducks.

oh my brother was riding his bike once,
and he found a baby duck abandon by its mom,
so he bought it home,
and apparently it would follow him Everywhere he went, and my dog would follow the duck.
I was at a school camp at the time, but he said that he would watch T.V and the duck would sleep in his dressing gown pocket!
It would of been so cool!

Did they all make it? :)

They all made it to adulthood. I lost two of them in a flood about a year after this video. :( The others are still alive and well!
