How to install XBMC on Apple TV 2G

sorry but video explanation here is very very poor. You can't just pile into terminal and assumer everybody can use it. And as well as that, terminal for mac doesn't operate the same as putty for windows. If people are looking for a tutorial, you have to tutor the viewers. Instead you just assume! and do a bad job assuming too.

Maybe you can help but i have did this process before, my apple tv was updated to 4.4 and i have already jailbroken it. But when i try to ssh to my apple tv2, terminal gives me a warning message that the remote host identification has changed. Also that he rsa host key for my apple tv has changed. any help would be appreciated

ok so that's done and jailbroken. however I am having a lot of problems installing icefilms. First off I uploaded the repository file to atv2 with a file sharing program (i use a mac so had to download filezilla) When I go into XBMC - Settings - etc. I see the name of the file on xbmc when I go into the folder i don't see the actual zip file to install. What am I doing wrong? Pelase help spent way to many hours screwing around with it:)

Defenetly looks very easy to install XBMC, the question is will this process work with version 4.4.1 jailbroken.

Do you think is necesary to write the first steps that are shown in the wiki.xbmc page. before it gets to apt-get install XBMC.

I just want to make sure because it looks too easy and I do not want to go thru the whole JB process.

I just got my Apple TV2 and this video just confused me. It doesn't explain if by installing this XBMC if that jailbreaks the device. Also it doesn't explain how to stream movie, videos and music on your PC to your TV. Can someone please explain and go into a little more depth. Thx

@TheErmhmm not that im currently aware of, You could just leave your atv on XBMC if your on 4.2.1 or below and have an untethered jailbreak since the aTV itself never truly turns off by itself. It will just recover out of sleep mode right into where you were last in XBMC. I'll look into it for more details but at this point I do not believe it has been done yet.

Guys when you jailbreak your ATV2 there are downloads section inside nitoTV where you can find xbmc install. Much simpler than going through all the terminal and command operations. Hope this helps

I installed it into my ATV 2G but now I dont know how to configure it to stream movies from my mac (to add the source). Plex working great and it was easy to make it work but not the same with XBMC. Not very friendly user. any help?

@dhickz1 sometimes terminal will tell me I have timed out, what works for me is shutting down everything and rebooting it. I can't be sure about the mac mini though, but give it a shot hope that helps

how do you point SSH to connect to Apple TV? That step was skipped.

@ykhov Find out the IP address of your AppleTV, then in the terminal type "telnet ipaddress". Simple as that.

@Irunwild31 a couple things, first to answer your question. No that won't kill the Jailbreak. But I think what your asking is will you have to reboot it into its Jailbroken state, the answer is no to that as well.

Also for other people seeing this. If you are on firmware 4.1, or 4.0, then when you install things using ssh you will type killall Lowtide.

If your on 4.2, or 4.1.1 then you will type killall appleTV.
