  • To whitewolf80ful, after a lot of digging at 2 Walmart's, I found the last copy in the $5.00 bin. Thank you so much for mentioning you'd seen it there. I never read the comments to youtube videos and don't know why I did today. Great movie. LOVE a good tearjerker on New Year's Eve.

  • I've looked for this movie for YEARS. It made me soggy when it came out and still does. My father also does not have a good relationship with his children. Since there aren't really Hallmark moments in real life, this movie is healing. I'm so glad to find it. Somebody here found it a few weeks ago in the WalMart $5.00 bin?? I'm on my way...just as soon as I watch all these segments...:)

  • There's hope for the world yet! This wonderful 1977 TV movie is pretty much available everywhere on DVD now. I even saw it in the $5 bin at Walmart tonight! There's also a 2-disc remastered version that includes The Gathering II. It's not worth it - - the sequel doesn't pack the same dramatic punch without Ed Asner. He was the glue that brought this great cast together (all wonderful character actors of that era) along with the incredible script. Too bad it's hardly shown on TV anymore.

  • Thank you so much! I've never forgotten this movie, though I haven't seen it in decades. I'm looking forward to watching!

  • PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST.......

and saddest TV movies about Christmas I

ever saw......making it Xtra special for me is

that its from the 1970s.....verryy touching and

hard to forget - a "true" realistic drama.........

on a more personal note - one of MY greatest

fears is not for myself, but those I truly love "passing

    away" during the Christmas Season........

    Billy Ralph Weeden.

  • THANK YOU, THANK YOU...THANK YOU!!!

  • I remember this! I couldn't remember what it was called..thanks for uploading.

  • @mrspiderturd what is the name of the sequel

  • I think I found it on DVD on Amazon.com

  • The Gathering is my all time favorite. I can't believe that I have been looking for this movie for all of these years and here it is. Thanks for posting.

  • Oh, isn't there ANY means by which to burn a DVD from youtube? This movie is not available in DVD and my vhs tape (off TV) is in sad shape. I fear the day will come when this is not available like this, how will I ever watch it? Draw back is that I usually watch these shows while working in the kitchen and I can't if it's on the computer :-(

  • I live like 10 minutes away from chagrin falls funny how this movie was forgotten in the area around cleveland . 1977 man what a christmas atari 2600 : P

  • @mrspiderturd Did I understand you to say there is a sequel?

  • very touching movie.thanks for sharing

  • I don't know why they don't play this anymore??? Great Christmas movie I remember from my Childhood. Thank you for posting!

  • I was trying to find the main background music in the movie as a gift for my father. Anyone know where I could find it, or the name of the music?

  • This is the best Christmas movie I have ever seen. Except, of course, for White Christmas.

  • Thanks for posting have had a tough time locating the DVD

  • Love this movie. I actually own the DVD, but loaned it to my son last Christmas and haven't got it back yet. I'm glad to have this option because the movie isn't broadcast anymore and it's hard to find the DVD.

  • I was from Chagrin Falls too. I remember when this movie was filmed. In the opening scene with the choir singing in the gazebo in the middle of town, my family and I were standing in the crowd watching them and listening to them sing. I always thought Chagrin Falls reminded you of a little New England town during the winter. The falls were beatiful during that time. I would never walk down the stairs during the winter like Ed Asner does with his doctor. I wish I could find this movie.

  • I lived in Chagrin Falls also. I remember this part in the movie, my family actually was in front of the gazebo listening to the choir. This brings back good memorys. I live in Georgia now and can't image going back up to Chagrin in the winter. I do miss the Falls, especially in the winter. I never took the stairs down to the Falls like Ed Asner does with his doctor.

    Merry Christmas to you!!!

  • I'm glad you liked it. This movie never fails to touch me.

  • @jreagan56 This movie was filmed in my hometown of Chagrin Falls, Ohio. It was on Valentine's Day in 1977 and it happened to snow. We all went into town after school and were filmed for the sidewalk scenes. It's funny because there were never that many people in town at once, unless it was during Blossom Time or the Art Show. I met Ed Asner that day. Good memories. Thanks for posting this.

  • @MegaDeedee79 I live in Chagrin Falls too!!!

  • Bless you for sharing this, my favorite all time Christmas movie. My mom and I both loved this film. She's gone now, but I'm delighted to be able to see it here on You Tube. Sweet memories.
