  • I wanted nothing but these when I saw them in White Dwarf. But I couldn't afford them because I was a kid, and now they're unobtainable :(

  • Gotta love the brit-stashe.

  • Canadian shall serve the emperor!

  • @Tukgar

All of you, come on, sing!

Give this man a thumbs up! He's brought pride to the regiment.

  • Meanwhile, in teh 1600s Dutch Navy...

  • @taurenmilkco meanwhile thousands of years ago tyranosaurus rex...

  • @Rototornik Sorry, but an emphasis on copying the British imperial crap makes me pissed.

The Dutch had the british beat for years, but they never get any recognition.

  • @taurenmilkco well, i cant say you were wrong, but cant remember the dutch empire. while i clearly recognize the british. and they have cute colonial troops. not saying that dutch were bad, not at all good navy and shit, but they didnt forge a vast lasting empire.

  • @Rototornik Not vast, but very lasting.

Hey, we have one thing left; we made more money than the British ever did. With less colonies, and more civil freedoms.

  • @taurenmilkco but you didnt have such expenditures, a huge navy and all the armies. but whatever, i dont know much about that part of history so i wont complain and be a stubborn fool. you made a good reason to make some research... if im not bored enough.

but now i notice that we serbs are in very similar position... our efforts are nullified and ex fascist and soviet countries are considered more worthy allies and friends than us. fuck this world and its logic, do you agree?

  • Im loving the Zulu theme going on here. Why cant i seem to find any praetorians on the GW website i really want to start an regiment of these guys to go along with my cadians or even replace them ?

  • hahahah zulu ftw XD

  • Why did GW stop making these guys anyway?

  • The Praetorians were my favourite too. I've about 300+ of them. A lot I had to get off eBay when GW stopped making them.

  • Notice how there is a link to the Zulus on the right.

  • catchan- ameriacn , cadian, stromtroopers and Praetorians- british , krieg- german ,

valhallens- russian and i may of forgotten mordian and rough raiders because i dont know witch ones they are.

  • @kii8910

Mordians - Prussians. Beacause of they martial and strict discipline.

  • what we shud do is start a pertishion and send it to games workshop to start reproduction of the Praetorian Guard

  • @chaos574

    Good idea.

  • @chaos574 its a real shame GW never made no plastic kits for them or the iron guard.

  • @kickthetv643 lol yea you lucky cunt atleast they still make mordians lol

  • meh des preatorian boyz wudent stand a chance against a propa WAAAGGHHH

  • I want my French Regiment ! The only Regiment that can surrender without being executed ! ( Yeah, I'm french ... )

  • @Technaugure

I always thought it would be cool to have a Foreign Legion inspired IG unit, kepi blanc and all.

  • @HazMatMedia I'd say the Tallarns are pretty Foreign legion.

  • @HazMatMedia

If you paint Mordians in khaki with a white hat and perhaps red trousers, you could probably get pretty close to your idea. Also the Death Korps, somewhat contrary to popular belief, is heavily influenced by the WWI French army.

Myself, I also want a French regiment, but a little more archaic in style. I was thinking late 18th early 19th century uniform style, long pattern lasguns (like the Vostroyans) and "Cuirassier" rough riders.

  • @Technaugure The french have a long and proud military history , one that i should not have to remind to a person that is french . If anything this cowardice myth perpetuated by a few should not be allowed to continue . The french who fought through the hell of Verdun , and ww1 , and so many other conflicts ( Cameron is your 300 , were the legion stood and died ) definitely do not deserve this slander . WW2 was lost do to antequated tactics (ww1 doctrine ) .

  • @dukemorran1: Verdun was a hell for both sides. Btw: There was a whole Legion of the Waffen-SS comprised of French and Belgian voluntees. This Legion (Charles Le Magne) was the last one to defend Berlin against the Allies - when most German troops had already deserted. Joining the nazis surely wasnt that great an idea. But showing more guts than the Germans defending the German capital in WW2 is quite an impressive thing to do.

  • THERE BASICLY A BRITISH REGIMENT

  • @WW2fanhere47 and that's why they're so awesome

  • The Emperor Will protect our tea. For Tea and the Emperor!

  • THE GUARDSMEN FROM PETORIA

  • I was given some Praetorian troops a few years ago but only started painting them quite recently. I am painting them along the lines of German colonial troops from the beginning of the 20th Century ( for an idea of what I mean, refer to the film, 55 days at peking). I will put them on youtube when I finish them.

  • Zulu's Sir 1000 of them

  • Their appearance is very british, while their name makes them sound roman ._.

    Nice job though ^__^

  • @commander7890 most of the imperial legions and regiments have latin names for example adeptus asartes in latin means the Lords protectors.

  • @webb20k Not the Death Korps of Krieg ;) Krieg means war in German and they're German based I believe.

    But I see your point.

Though what's Cadia related to then just out of curiosity @_@ I know the Cadian regiments are named after their planet, but what is Cadia named after?

    Not hating, just curious ^__^

  • @commander7890

I believe Cadia is a shortened form of Arcadia, a paradise from ancient myth. The feel the Cadians themselves are based on a mix of the US and British modern militaries and the Prussian army/WWII German Wehrmacht.

  • @HazMatMedia

*nod nod* Thank you for the insight =D

  • @webb20k Right.....but I already said that I knew that....what...was the point of that comment? x3

  • Comment removed

  • ZULU!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Where are these guys? Don't tell me that GW decided to retcon these guys from the fluff. These guys are the manliest motherfuckers in IG. You have to have balls to go against orks like that.

  • Proof that all you need to face down a Chaos Marine is a stiff upper lip. Great vid!

  • Don't most Imperial Guards set themselves apart? Such as the Death Korps of Krieg, or any of the others?

  • Preatorians hu ?

Ya I'll stick with the Tanith !

  • Hmmm i've never heard of the Praetorian Guard before. Being a Mechanicus nut (you have to be to mantain a minigun) I've heard of the Praetorian Servitor, the uge tracked beings, but i'm going to have to read up oin these guys.

  • im sure these are based on colonial age Britain.

  • awsome first pic

  • "Orks fastands of them!!!

OI....dont you lob that stick bomb at me"

  • Jolly good show old chap.

  • "Sir,do we truely have claim to this land?"

"It does not matter if we have claim, all that matters is that we have the plasma gun,and they do not"

  • They look like the British uniforms of the 19thC

  • TOY SOILDER?

  • My first ever Warmahher experiance was turning up for my first Gamesday in 97 and seeing the Big Toof River massacre scene...

    Was bloody brilliant!

Wish I had bought the damn minatures at the time, now their nigh on impossible to get...

Also have an urge to watch Zulu now....

'Yer only supposed to blow the bloody Orks up!!'

  • nice, but what the hell was that last thing??????

  • nice choice of sound track, zulu

  • 1:38: "...in the Tau colony, South Africa." LOLWUT? It sounds a lot like he said Tau.

  • He actually said "...in Natal colony,", but Tau does kinda work, LOL.

  • @Agent1W Yah... listen really hard, you'll hear the Na at the beginning of it.

  • im thinking that ill use them as conscripts. like their world is stuck in the 1800s and when the cadians came they trained them to use modern weapons or something.

  • why not just use them as they are? death korps of krieg are based on WW1 germans, why dont u hav the same story for them?

  • Awesome... it kind of makes me regret buying Cadians; but I'm too poor to go for a metal range really... I might use a metal squad or two as veterans...

  • @Henners1991 Good luck finding some,I've been looking all over ebay trying to get some more ,I got lucky I traded some old D&D books for mine

  • zulus own all

  • "orks fazzounds of em.....oi dont you lob that stick bomb at me!!!!!!

  • they should have the elite regiment that protects earth as one of the available armies

  • iv noticed all imperial guard legions are based different country milatary like these are based around british and mordan iron guard french

  • Why do they look British? you would think a "Praetorian" would have more of a Roman look to it...

  • Dude, please, seriously. You're the third guy to come on here and tell me I'm wrong. You're confused. You're thinking of the AdMech Praetorian combat servitors. This is the Praetorian Imperial Guard regiment.

  • they still work for terra

  • brilliant regiment, wish they still made this

  • actually this concept is brilliant IMHO. i like the idea of a british form of cadian and the idea of it being the mid 1800's forces. simply perfect

  • Cadia is best they dont need something like these praetorians

  • Cadians are great but there ae only so many planets you need backup fro somewhere thats why theres valhallans and such.

  • Mighty Emperor, spread Your divine light to protect me from darkness.

Litany of Protection. The Imperial Infrantryman's Uplifting Primer.

  • Dam GW for retconning them out of existance!

And kudos for the enemy in the brittish dispatch changed to "Tau" quite amusing.

  • "God save the Emp... no! wait... the Emperor are the only god!

    so... uhm...ah yes!

    EMPEROR SAVE HIMSELF!"

    XDlol

  • GW still makes:

Cadians (Vast Quantity of 'em to)

Catachans (starting to get more attention from GW)

Steel Legion (You gotta look 'em on their website under Collectibles)

Valhallans/Tallarn/Mordians are all same as Steel Legion in Collectibles

  • I always thought the costumes for these guys were a bit odd but that just makes them interesting

  • Think of it as the triumph of English culture over time. Worlds may burn, language may change, men may die, but by the Emperor we will have tea time!

  • :D

Even in the Grim Darkness of the Far Future, there is still tea...

  • the imperium of pg tips under the rule of the hloy monkey! yeah that was a bad line.

  • @HazMatMedia or atleast Rahzvod for us Vostroyans

  • @SDSkinner2011

XD so before every battle they sit down for tea time?!?

    ROTFLMAO

  • @SDSkinner2011

i can imagine them having tea in a middle of a battle some how

  • anyone know what ever happened to the steel legion? did GW abandon them too? i thought they looked cool

  • their made by forgeworld im sure gw dont make them i think the ones gw make are like cadians catachans and a select few others.

  • You can still buy Steel Legion models from GW, but you have to order them online.

  • The Tanith would eat these snobs for breakfest!

    (Nice vide, though)

  • Models from Forgeworld, LOL yah like I could justify paying their prices. If I could afford to blow that much money I would have bought Death Korps Krieg along time ago.

  • I bought death korps they wer well worth it

  • A lot of the fun, and color seems to have disappeared from the game as some of the old units were abandoned by GW. My old Vahalans were painted to look like a WWII soviet guards regiment. My praetorians were painted to look like the 2/24. My mordians were painted to look like US marines. In short, there were many more choices for the IG player player in the past. Now we're stuck with Vostroyans, Cadians, and Catechans.

  • there are also models from Forgeworld

  • Yeah, i mean the models GW have produced latley look better, they have gotten rid of that 'comic book' look for a more seriouse look. The trade off is however that gw has also gotten rid of the FUN part of the game. They are trying to hard to be soooo seriouse that it is making things a lil to uniform for my tastes and less fun. Thats why all armies are looking the same, both in colour and in army make up. Thats why everybody has a valkry and a Stegadon now! :(

  • I can't help but feel that the Praetorians are too little "Imperium-ified". There's the odd aquila and the lasguns of course, but so much of it is basically unchanged.

  • If GW would start selling plastic Praetorians I would start recuit a Guard Army right away.

    For Praetoria and the Emperor!!!

  • @MattiasE135 the preatarions are very rare

  • @kii8910 I know about £5 per soulder on ebay and tere arnt alot of em

  • @MattiasE135 Same for Mordian Iron Guard, if you ask me. :)

  • not too good drawings

  • I have a praetorian army 1500 all Line Infantry and 4 Sentinel i'm painting as

    79th cameron highlanders

  • just wondering where to do i buy preatorian gaurds from?

  • Ebay. GW hates them, and hasn't sold them for years.

  • so theyre not being actively made? and why would gw hate them theyre a british company and this chapter reflects on british history

  • sorry regiment(sorry for double post:P)

  • No, they stopped making them years ago. The historical parody aspect is no longer consider "professional" by GW and they've tried to erase that as much as possible. Praetorians were considered too obviou and tongue-in -cheek. They were only ever intended as a limited release anyway.

  • ahh a shame i wanted an original regiment not the rank and file cadian clones (cadians arent they supposed to be modelled off ww2 american troops) and those crapfests that are the catachan and spending near a thousand pounds for a decent army of death korps isnt very appealing

  • catachan fucking rock, go air mobile with those tough bastards and you get one killer army

  • Their just a bunch of guy runnig around in the bush with no shirts on!

  • Cadians and Steel Legon are about as origial as you can get my fiend! they were the 2 frist Regiments ever made.

  • So Praetorians are no longer consider canon?

  • GW Hates a Product that they sold?

    Amazing!

  • i can see why , although i like the praetorians they do look a little cheesey , but i still think theyre quite cool

  • So much of 40k is thinly veiled cheesy knockoffs of films, history, and pop culture it's ridiculous. I think that's why we love it so much...

  • true , true

  • Marbo anyone?

  • guardsman marbo , the neew elite guy ?

  • I'm still gonna go with the Tanith 1st and only .

  • lone live paetoria lone live the emperor

  • I believe the word you were after is long.

  • I just got some Praetorians from a frend in trade for some 4th ed D&D books they will make fine editions to my army the 1st All Imperioum

  • Dawn of War oughta have unique campaigns for some of these famous IG units!

  • Even if it was just a one of scenario

  • look at the image at 0:50 thats obviously Rorkes drift and at 1:20 it looks oddly like sgt major windridge

  • i think 0:50 is the battle of ORKS DRIFT

  • For the record, the Praetorian Guard were modelled on the British troops who fought in the Zulu war, 1879. They were portrayed in the movie "Zulu" - which is where the soundtrack comes from, complete with a Richard Burton voice over. Michael Caine starred.

The British did indeed still wear red in Africa in 1879, turning to Khakhi only in the 1890's.

The actual figures were converted Mordian Iron Guard, limited edition initially, but when they proved popular they were given general release.

  • You do realise that ALL of the Imperial Guard regiments are "inspired" by real historical uniforms? There actually isn't a true "original" design amongst the IG.

Reliving the British Empire is no worse than reliving Vietnam (Catachan) or Iraq (Cadian) or the grim Eastern Front in WWII (Valhallan Ice Warriors) or the horror of WWI (Death Korps of Krieg). With other regiments inspired by such horrific sources, why quibble at the redcoats?

    Don't be hypocrites.

    Well done Hazmatmedia. :)

  • What is the background to the Praetorians?

  • British colonial troops who fought in the Zulu war. Their name also pays homage to the Praetorian guard, the ancient Roman military elite.

  • Sorry for nitpicking but colonial troops were Australians, Canadians etc. The 24th Foot (South Wales Borderers) were British Imperial troops.

  • Oh no it's fine, I should have known 'colonial' had to do with citizens of the colony.

So if you read the first reply I posted just replace 'colonial' with 'imperial' and you'll be fine. lol

  • his army was designed for UK

players that want to recapture there imperial pride.

  • They look a little too like redcoats? That's the whole point of them, they're based on the soldiers of the British Empire during it's heyday, who could send three thousand men to conquer a continant.

  • yeagh they are good same that gw has stoped production.... aahhh good old days

  • They're pretty cool I guess. They look a little to much like the 'red coats' though in my opinion. Death Korps of Krieg are the coolest in my opinion.

  • They dont look like red coats, they look like those british troops sent to africa and india during the mid 1800s but only with red. Death Korps are my favorite to....followed by Armageddon Steel Leigon.

  • wtf the red coats r back!

  • I think they would make a perfect version of the Imperial guard for dawn of war ii

  • I think Dawn of War II should include the different divisions of each faction (Cadian, Praetorian, Vostroyan, etc.), and not just pretty colors to tell each one apart.

  • awesome idea that is

  • It would be awesome if Relic puts them in DOW II

  • I have only just got back into warhammer as a whole a couple of months ago, after about 6 years out. I knew exactly what i was going to collect and they were the praetorians! Totally gutted when i phoned Games workshop to have some smug git tell me they were out of production - had to turn to the alternative shop - Ebay, to scavenge a few complete squads!

  • Is that the voice of Dumbledore in the end? :P

  • He heh, sounded like him. :P

(obviously he or someone with a similar voice starred in zulu. well, not dumbledore, but you get it. :P)

  • It was Richard Burton.

  • The Preatorians were awesome, and are sorely missed!

  • why did there planet get destroyed

  • It wasn't destroyed. GW just stopped making them

  • oh i wonder why

  • Me too, they look really cool and better then the Cadians and Catachans. Who knows? Maybe they'll make some new miniatures

  • better than catachans maybe but cadia is still the coolest (other than the steel legion) the guys are pretty bad ass though

  • Better then the Catachans. They're way too crazy looking.

  • i guess they catachans look like bandits or something

  • i think thay look like the US troops in virtnam

  • They tried to model the catachans after the us troops in vietnam

  • they are modeled after the us troops in nam

  • I think they looked a bit TOO much like the british empire, it was almost as if they were colonial brits with lasguns. I would like to see some more imperium-ish things if they ever (emperor willing) start to produce them again.

  • Cool vid! The Praetorians were unique in their discipline and tactics which were inspired by the real-life soldiers of the Napoleonic Era of combat! :)

  • I remember reading the first battle report these guys appaeared in in White Dwarf, it was a recreation of Rorke's Drift against the Orks. And just to clarify, these guys are part of the Mordian Iron Guard, not the praetorian regiment.

  • HUSSAR! HUSSAR! HUSSAR!

  • Huzzah!

  • Gut gezeichnet, aber ich kann mit dem Regiment(ern) nichts anfangen.

  • lol remind me of the british in the movie Zulu

  • They are the british from Zulu in 40k. The music is from Zulu

  • BAH!!!! Nothing beats the Tanith First-and-Only!!!!!
