The Parkzone model is a Wildcat... This one is a Hellcat which replaced the Wildcat in 1942 or 1943... I don't know which company makes this RC model.
A bit hard to do if they're glued into the wingtip though.
They ought to have a little magnetic switch so you can simply tape a magnet near them to turn them off. To fly, remove the magnet, when done, replace it. Simple! (I claim patent rights! :-)
