Metro train overcrowding getting worse

I live in New York City and the subway is FAR more crowded and functions just fine. How about just rearranging the seating and door arrangements? Seems pretty simple to me.

Overcrowding will be inevitable as more and more switch from cars to PT a direct result of rising fuel prices... the major issue is that the fleet needs to be reliable as well as infrastructure, even that is of poor low standard. Unfortunately, the tangled web of privatization is making it extremely difficult to fix it. Metro not only have to look up to the government to get out of a unpredictable system, but the demands of many other companies as well.....

The only way they can fix it at this time is to extend the number carrages past 6 and extend the length of platforms, either that or copy Sydney and get double decker trains (not sure if that will work or not as we tried it before), adding new trains to the line will just cram trians behind each other until the new regional rail seperation link is completed and even then the lines will still be fairly cramped until new lines are put in place.

@darkphantom24873 its impossible to extended all the platforms - what we need is for Baillieu to deliver the 40 new trains he promised at the election and many more
