@beachlanding1944 cool, I've grad from 4th going back as a primer. I think I've met your captain for some lifeskills lesson 2 yrs back and last year when we went kayaking in Kallang
I was in 48th London Co. 1958-1963...C/O Mr Turnbull..Warrant Officer Terry Laughton, who went on to the Police Force and Sgt Errol Hughes ..Company had band practice at Heber Road School Dulwich.
Made it to officer level myself, married the skippers daughter who just happened to be an officer in the Girls Brigade!! 5th Clydebank has a lot to answer to!!
Great memories of the Pill Box, Belt and Haversack. I joined the 2nd Macduff BB Coy in 1960 and enjoyed my time there. Apart from Marching and PT, we learned First Aid, Signalling and Scripture Knowledge; and camped at Old Aberdeen School. Latterly, I was a Lance Corporal. I have precious memories of "Will Your Anchor Hold." An old lady in Dufftown and I sang it together during "Songs of Praise" 20 years ago. Shealways remembered me when she heard it sung. Charlie in Aberdeen.
so proud to serve in this great organization! carried the Queen's flag for a couple of years now... perhaps I'll see ole Liz out & get to carry the King's flag!
Greetings form the 1st Kidderminster BB Company. I have been in Boys Brigade for 21 years and have loved every minute of it. I go on seven camps a year and have a great time in tents, church halls, in Wales, Scotland or in England. We are planning camp in Northern Ireland which are looking forward but that will be in 2015.
I really hate those youth army organizations. They are so damn proud and they always look down on BB . I'm from 27th Singapore company and I think that those national cadet corps and others who think BB is lame should pipe down and. Get lost
Certainly drilled a lot of values and morals into me eventhough I didn't realise or apprieciate it at the time. Such a sense of duty and service before self. A virtue rarely seen today.
There used to be 6 companies in Galashiels for a population of 12.000. Now there is one, 3rd St Peters. I think thats a great shame. X-box is to blame !!!!!!!!
@MrCagivaman There are still 3 active Companies in Galashiels - 1st (Old Parish and St. Paul's) and 2nd (St. John's) as well as the 3rd. All three Companies have produced Queen's Men this year, so the X-Box has not yet totally won!
Snap! I joined the Lifeboys before moving on to two different BB companies in Edinburgh. Great memories. Without the BB camps, I wouldn't have had a decent holiday in my youth, nor would I have acquired skills like First Aid and drumming (but nobody tried me out on the bugle - maybe not a bad thing!). I persuaded my own kids to follow in my footsteps and join youth organisations - a great benefit. Ands here's another near-Snap! I married a braw, braw lass frae Galashiels.
Same here my friend. enjoyed every minute in the BB. I was a Manchester Lad and a proud member of 2nd Denton Company ( Drummer ). Went on to serve in HM forces with pride and compassion.
I was a wee Scots lad kept on the straight and narrow by the BB. Joined the Lifeboys first then into the BB. Love the old photo's and the band at the end WOW. Pleased to say that I was the only ever member of the 1st Galashiels Company (St. Pauls) to play in the Bugle Band. I also spent 20 years in the RAF so it must have done me some good. Left before the "Thunderbird" hats came in thank goodness. Bayden-Powell got Cpt. Smith's advice when forming The Boy Scouts, the BB is an older outfit
@XxXcoheedXxX SHUT UP YOU CLOWN AND LIKE EVERYONE SAYS SHOW SOME RESPECT. I WAS IN THE BOYS BRIGADE AND IT WAS THE HAPPIEST DAYS OF OUR LIVES OH AND BEFORE YOU MAKE ANY OTHER COMMENTS I AM IN THE ARMY NOW. ALL YOUTH ORGANISATIONS ARE GREAT IT IS JUST SMALL MINDED PEOPLE LIKE YOU THAT NEED STRAIGHTENED OUT.
