  • Moo!

  • is this hey diddle diddle?

  • Every single time I hear this song, I think she's saying Elphie rather than Elsie.

  • hehe she got better at mooing too

  • moo

  • Possibly, the best performance... Ever.

  • If I ever have a protest, this will be how I do it <3

  • I love how raw her voice is

  • Listen to this then listen to The Wizard and I. So much of a progression. Love you Idina <3

  • To everyone who commented, saying "Moo" : I'm sorry, but I laughed. But I love this song. ^__^ <3 <3

  • *At a cattle farm*

Me: *directed at cattle* Come on! MOO WITH ME! MOO!

    One Cow: Mooooo...

    Me: YEAH! MOOOOOO!

  • Guess what I think of every time I hear "a leap of faith"?

  • @slygirl1117 MAYBE I'LL TRY DEFYING GRAVITY!

  • BEEDY BONG! (i repeat this a lot)

  • @strikeforceteen haha. Yea.

  • Moo with me!

  • MOO WITH ME!!!!!

  • The movie was awkward, but I loved the broadway version.

  • i love this!!

  • Needs more cow bell. =]

  • I love her in everything! But you have to admit Wicked changed her vouce a but.

  • Mooo with me ^_^

  • God no one can belt like Idina

  • i love Adam's random"MOOOO!" at the end :)

  • her voice is so different from the movie. unfortunately i saw the movie first so i couldn't get used to the original....which is freakin awesome!!!

  • this is so much better than the movie

  • @chelseaarocks

I agree. I think the movie was more able to illustrate how average the characters are. Mark is an average filmmaker. His movie was like three minutes long, and yet he was working on it the entire musical. Roger is an average songwriter. He takes an entire year to write one song. Maureen is an average performer/protester. That's harder to project in a Broadway musical since even if you're in character, you can't perform on Broadway like she did in the movie.

    Just my two cents.

  • I totally agree. I thought the movie one was kinda boring

  • I love the point she makes in this song. Its incredible.....BEST way to start a protest. I love the point she makes and I love the details and I love her voice. She's not only hilarious but wise in this performance. GO IDINA!!!!

  • @lonelyoptimist99 TBH I'm kind of stupid, so I don't get the point she's making. LOL

  • @BlazedHearts LOL it's okay. It's difficult to explain but easy to understand.

  • I love indina MENZEL! go girlfriend!

  • moooooo! moo with ne!

  • idinas voice is amazing

  • I think my favorite part on this is they get the audience involved.

  • I love this song. I sang it for a choir audition once, haha. Everyone was laughing so hard. It was amazing, haha.

  • this is such a kooky song :)

  • Does anyone know if a karaoke track exists for this song? I want to do it for a talent show, but I can't find it. I may just record my own :)

  • My guess would be no. It's not even in the songbook.

  • Thanks. I guess its kinda hard w/ all the starting and stopping in the song to record it correctly.

  • Yeah. It's more of a spoken performance. You could probably pull it off with no background music at all. If you had a pianist to accompany you, they could probably figure out the chords. Wouldn't be that hard to do. Good luck though with whatever you do!

  • Thanks. I got my friend to sing the background :D

  • This song is better when seen in the actual play.

  • I dont care what anyone else says this is an AMAZING musical and a HILARIOUS song!!!

  • I didnt realize that she says "I awoke singing..." when i saw the movie... the line wasnt said very clearly so it sounded like "we sprang to a gallop, leaping, on a mortgage, to pay a loan, saving" which totally made sence! (Dont hurt me!!!)

  • this song is hilarious. "pushed over a cliff by a suicidal Mickey Mouse!" lol

  • Suicidal Mickey Mouse!

Almost as funny as PeeWee Herman in La Vie Bohem

  • this song is my least favorite in RENT but i still kind of like it. i just don't get the lyrics though. i don't get where the cow thing comes from. at all.

  • their basically saying using an example and saying that she cant do what she wants (produce milk) then at the end she drinks the milk because they are rebelling against benny. sorri if that no sense lol

  • have you ever heard of the words metaphors and similes???

if you didn't get it then you have to be really stupid

  • i have this one on my ipod

    hows singing this??

  • is it idina menzel? i think its the same one as on the dvd. x

  • DUH!!!!... Idina has been Maureen since 1993!..she did the off broadway Maureen and the in broadway Maureen, along with the movie

  • @rory1494 Idina is AMAZING!!!!!! End of story. This song is kinda kooky, though. "pushed over a cliff by a suicidal mickey mouse." LOL

  • i like the new one better.

  • NO..its just the most different song in the entire musical... in rent we are used to slow songs, fast songs, love songs..but nothing like this..thats why your thinking that this is d worst

  • not really, i just don't particularly care for it; i think rent has so many better songs and this is just a little too "raw" or "sharp" for my taste. but that's just my opinion, don't let me stop anyone else from enjoying it.

  • It is necessary, even if it is different and a little hard to understand if you don't pay attention and also know the times the musical takes place in. Namely, NYC pre-Juliani and pre-Disneyfication. She's singing about how everything "real" meaning art and independent thinking is disappearing and Benny is an ass for not caring about the people he is trampling on with his CyberStudio idea.

  • well...yea...that 2 ^_^

  • performance is what Maureen does. it's her way of expressing herself like Roger has music and Mark has film ect. AND it starts the riot which Mark records that gets him on Buzzline which is an important part of the story for Mark's character. So no, it's not just an "extra song".

  • i know....it was just a saying... (within the musical) is just "a song" i KNOW the meaning, and what it means to the musical...and personally i LOVE this song.... BUT, as explained in the RENT book....by Jonathan... he underlines, the musicals extra song in the authors notes..so basically..i didnt say it, Jonathan did :D.... RENTHEAD 4LIFE!

  • oh, i guess i misunderstood (and i have to say i do not agree with Jonathon on that one...but that doesn't make me any less of a RENThead!)

  • HA! That just reminded me of today at school. Our buses are named after different objects and when the cow bus came every one started mooing! LOL! BTW IDINA ROCKS!!!!

  • I love this song!!!!! My friends and I are totally obbsested with this song and always mooooo at each other.

  • It's very metaphorical and deep. :]

  • wow, idina menzel's singing really has gotten better in the last 12 years

  • well infernece this song did'nt help her

I mean if you notice there's very little music in this song and she sings a lot of the lycers without aid from the orchestra

it's kind of an orgineal way of doing a song in a musical i think but it probaly didn't help Idina's vocie sense usualy singers/actors in musicals would have orchestras playing in the backround

i like how they do it though the only other musicals i've seen it in is Les Miserables and Notre dame de Paris where Characters

  • also acctually if you didnt know this but she smoked when she first started RENT and she quit smoking and got better and it has gotten MUCH better!!!

  • Idina smokes or did? Really? That surprises me a lot because I have seen a few things where she talks about a strict regimen she has for her voice....

  • Adam Pascal smokes...

  • i'm sorry if i offended anyone but i was just stating the fact that she has gotten better. she was (and still is) fantastic 12 years ago.
