  • Coming across this video I was actually ready to be impressed by the Eminence Speaker, as the Vintage 30 hasn't held up to some of the other speakers I am considering.

In this comparison, I was surprised that the V30 blows the Private Jack away, way more definitition and clarity. The Jack simply sounds muddy. I guess one might mistake the muddiness for grunt... but it really isn't... (not that the V30 has much grunt in this comparison)

  • private jack is more expensive than vintage 30 in the UK

  • @MisterShred Do these sound good in the same cabinet in the room? Do they blend well in the same cab?

  • Comment removed

  • Vintage 30 wins by a ton way less muddy.

  • Celestion has been riding on their name with Chinese speakers, and Eminence makes better quality speakers and are made in the USA, Better quality stuff than the Chinese shit.

  • hands down the celestion sounds much better. very forward and cuts through the mix, beautiful sparkling tone... even when played thru an ss amp. the jack sounded muffled and spongey, but had a decent low end.

  • Nice test ! Thx.. One question I have a Giant Alnico magnet speaker, can say something about it ?

    watch?v=M4ZSyDcdGuY

This all my info: 30-2800hz / 99dB 50w rms sounds good.

  • Private Jack is awesome. Never even heard of it before this but now I think it blows the Celestion away.

  • private jack has way more grunt than a v30

  • @MisterShred the v30 sounds much more crisp!!!

  • private jack certainly better in distant micing . close micing it's a tad too dark. but then again, we don't know if you mic'ed center, half center, or edge on the close stuff so...! sounds good to me.

  • Have you compared Scumbacks??

  • Private jack sounds like its under water.

  • What is the difference between 8 ohm and 16 ohm? I'm doing a criss cross pattern with Eminence Wizard and Private Jack, getting 16 ohms. But if that will radically change the speaker sound let me know, please.

  • Get a real amp man...

  • The Private Jack sounds a lot more open, the Celestion V30 sounds a little too compressed but both are nice.

  • What I find remarkable is not that the speakers sound good, but that the powerblock sounds so good. This would be something to remember next time I see one that has been languishing in a pawn shop.

  • Blue is the bestest colour and that's all there is to it!!!!

  • V30s sound really congested and honky in the upper mids

  • The private jack sounds better overall, its gnarly and fat and is fuller sounding and probably sounds great clean, the vintage 30 is a one sound trick and has a uni directional focus, it is hype that sells this speaker.

  • Wow! The Private Jack sounds great. Before listening to this, I was leaning towards the V30. Now it's Private Jack all the way!

  • I like the Vin 30's, the Private Jacks sound a bit muffled compared to the Vin 30's

  • The V30's have so much better definition and clarity

  • I like the vintage 30, seems to have better definition and tighter in the bottom

  • Private Jack sounds better I think.

  • hmmm .... Private Jack .... made in USA, 72 bucks. V30 .... made in China, 150 bucks ..... pretty easy decision I'd say ....

  • @DaWebMasta1 yea, i'd go with the vintage 30-it sounds twice as good.

  • that's great!!

    thanks!!

  • the v30 is setup for midrange frequency response, the private jack has more high end... it's just all about preference man.

  • the celestion sounds brighter and clearer....while the eminence sounds smoother and cleaner...im thinking they BOTH should be loaded into a cab and played at the same time

  • Vintage 30 sounds sooo much more present and not flat like the emi

  • Nice comparison. Were these speakers right out of the box or were they given some break in before you made this vid? Also did you concider blending the 2 together? Seems that the tone chasers are mixing speakers in the cabs to get some great sound.

  • vintage30 is better..

  • There's no better, or worse..... just different.

The V30's seem to have more "crunch" and more bite, which is great for certain amps and not for others, and great for certain tonal goals and not for others. I actually like the V30's better for where I am shooting for in music right now.

The Private Jacks seem a little more rounder, softer and "pillowy", which is again great if thats what your shooting for, but not if your not. They sound good for something besides lead guitar for me.

  • The Private Jack is the better speaker IMO!

  • vintage 30 was very mid- rangey. The Private Jack was Fuller but with Higher Fidelity

  • the private jack sounds better to me but tones subjective

but during the single note line the v30 almost sounded ike it was about to quit on you lol

  • Sorry, the Vintage 30 crushes the other speaker. Much more refined sound. Very articulated with much more clarity

  • Nice review. Amateurs and young players spend a lot of time and money on pickups, tubes etc. and overlook the HUGE influence of speakers, as you well demonstrated. P.S. the V30 sounds very AC/DCish, the PJ sounds very good but is more original (and therefore might also be disliked more easily)

  • Great video.

  • When miced close, the Private Jack sounds sweeter, less harsh than the v30. When miced at a distance, the PJ sounds crisper than the v30...strange.
