Don't cut the door all the way out. It is easier to get the door mounted properly by keeping a few small areas of the edge attached and not cutting them until the hinges are welded on. That way you won't have to wrestle a 50 pound door into place. Just an idea i learned by cutting the door out all the way the first time.
Omg, why you wearing a helmet? If propane still inside the tank, it will explode at the first cut. If it not explode at the first cut, then there is NO propane inside. It can not explode a half an hour later. In case of an explosion, the helmet be of no avail. Sorry my english.
Yeah, nice vid, nice catchy moozick, but how 'bout telling folks how th' f*ck you ensure a propane (any gas) tank is safe to cut in to. Do you civil duty!
I have made bbq smokers out of propain tanks for years. The best way and safe way is to fill it up with water and tourch with the water in it. start at the top and work youre way dawn. That must have taken him hours to cut with that diegrinder.
(to anyone wanting to make one of these) Just make sure you burn the hell out of the expanded metal before cooking on it. oxy acyteline rosebud & wire wheel cleaning work well. Also take WHEREISKRAZYDAVE's advice. sounds funny but It saves lifes! Good Vid RON!
i use an angle grinder and take off a couple of mm untill it looks like brand new and it also makes the expanded metal a little flatter of a surface ,then i dont eat the first big cook that will season the smoker . thanks
I really like your air cutt-off to cut 3/16 steel with and the motor cycle helmet is really great for protection (a pair of sun glasses would have sufficed)
whereiskrazydave is right about carbon dioxide depleting oxygen but a simple swipe of a torch over a open valve will insure that a tank is safe to cut...
( remove all valves before cutting a propane tank ) propane is a liquid under pressure...
When cutting/ welding fuel tanks, you can take a hose and stick it in the tank. Then put the other end in a exhaust pipe of a running gas engine. That will depleat the tank of oxygen. That way you won't chance THE BIG BOOM!!
Just shoot the propane tank if you want to make sure it's safe.

its not a di grinder its a cut off tool they are two different tools ,it took about 45 mins btw it is full of water
ronaldsmusicfactory 2 years ago
@TheCaptanZ yeah- welding school for certification taught me the same- water is a great choice. Inert gas takes much more time/money to purge with

I wonder if throwing several large chunks of dry ice in there would do the same thing? But I like the car exhaust idea!
