  • Brave cameraman you've got there.

  • "BE more than enough", I meant

  • Have you ever FELT the heat from a pine tree burning? A pine tree, even dried out (i.e. without sap) is highly inflammable. It catches quickly and the heat from the fire would me more than enough to set the adjacent sofas alight. Tip - if you MUST have a pine tree, put it in the corner of the room, well away (ideally 2 metres) from anything flammable.

  • obviously fake

  • Good awareness, however a good amount of home electronic equipment can indeed cause fast fires. Iv accidentally light a extension-cord on fire with a portable stove :(

  • Merry Chrispmas!

  • so don't get a pine tree and unplug those lights?

  • Poor mr bun bun. He got it in the end.

  • thats what happens to people who celebrate christmas and take the shit too seriously and get a real tree!

  • I think everyone need to see this.....Nice job!

  • what is flashover?

  • Flashover happens when the fire burn a kind of material that realises too much flamable gases, creating a fire that come from the top to the botton.

In such cases the usual rule of direct the fire extinguisher flow just to the base of fire is not valid, cause the fire is also burning in the top due flamable gases.

  • its when everything in a given area reaches its ignition temperature bro

  • @jerryaltman In this situation, unless you were standing there extinguisher in hand, ready to go seconds after ignition, you wouldn't have a prayer trying to knock-down a fire of this intensity (irregardless of where the "flow" was directed).

Imagine the real-life scenario of your tree lighting off like this, but instead of sitting in the room with it ("poor Bun Bun"), you and your family are fast asleep in another part of your house or apartment. That's why "Smoke Detectors Save Lives"...

  • It was an ugly tree anyway

  • and we have flashover at the 37-39 second mark

  • no i think it has got a lot of tubs on it lol

  • ...woah

  • DIE LAMP DIE!

  • i think everything was rinsed in petrol lol

  • its cause pine trees produce turpentine

  • I shot this scene for discovery, there were no accelerants used. Tree was slightly dry like it gets toward new years if you forget to water it.

Once a naked flame reaches the tree it is history. A electrical fault would smolder but once direct flame contact is made the tree would go up in the same way.

It is not a "slippery slope" if the viewer understands the tree is not green. The structure was a freestanding wooden former accommodation building, not a purpose built set.

  • Such a good video!!

  • those fuckin tree's torch like crazy man! dangerous

  • It's kinda windy, isen't it?

  • The ignition source clearly throws a flame all the way up through the tree - AFTER this, yes, the tree goes up very fast, but its like lighting it with a flamethrower. They kinda cheated IMO, but at least it was for public safety but its a slippery, dangerous slope because other agencies think its ok to say that pirate movies and games pay for terrorism even though that's patently not true - they admit to saying it just because it stops people pirating stuff.

  • umm, close scrutiny shows the rapid flame growth is caused by the tree and it's needles.

    No artificial acceleration needed.

We've been burning trees the last few days and they do indeed go up that fast. The needles are the most rapid burners.

The piracy rant is irrelevant Tho.

  • Hm.. The tree took fire extreme quikly, gasoline?

  • No, dry pine.

  • its amazing that the dry pine in my fireplace doesnt go up this quick.

  • Does the dry pine in your fireplace have dry needles and twigs on it?

  • that's why you're supposed to WATER YOUR TREE DAILY!!!!

  • I pray that those folks who think that is time lapsed are NOT in a home fire.

As part of my training at a retirement home, they should us a video of a house fire, caused by a cigarette in a trash can.

once the flames started it was seconds and the living room was in flames and in ecess of 400 degrees.

With in five minutes the second story was cut off due to excessice heat and toxic smoke.

This isn't HDTV, any little lapse or jump is just video degregation from the original spource material.

  • Woudent like to be in that room

  • Wtf? ;O

  • No flames "flame" that fast if there isn't a wind blowing on it. It's some sort of a time lapse, but still, it's a fast scenario. Keep the lights out folks.

  • use your eyes. any time lapse would be obvious because the flames movements would look fast forwarded or adjusted like all time lapses do.

  • I was in on this experiment and It´s NOT an timelapse. Real time fire folks. Happy Hollidays

  • What did you guys use for the ignition source? How dry was the tree?

  • GASOLINE!

  • This is not time-lapse - just watch the on-screen time compared to the YouTube time, the difference is always the same.

  • Haha. I think you need to re-think that a bit =)

  • i think there's gasoline in that tree

  • Comment removed

  • Get the house is still fully involved before anyone gets there. . . time lapse or otherwise.

  • true. i have to commend this video esp during this time of the year. everyone have a safe christmas.

  • That agency has since posted a side by side comparison of an ignition test of both a watered tree and a non-watered tree. It clearly shows that a tree displayed in water will not burst into flame.
