  • research everything thatcher was chosen by the bilderberg group ( not elected ) to destroy the uks infrastructure and destroy our communities but we are still here !!!

  • Should be a good day in the clubs when maggie dies first rounds on me

  • @MrOlly1976 i want to arrange for miners sons ( like me ) miners to attend the funeral with bags or buckets of coal and to throw onto the road ahead giving the bitch a bumpy ride before it gets handed over to satan lol

  • when is the bitch gonna die!!

  • evil bitch and hopefully she dies soon and takes her barstard children with her.....I would happily piss on her grave.....die slut die...the sooner the better

  • Thank god those bully boy unions and miners got put in their places, thinking they can stay open when they made no profit and just burdened ordinary people like my family who struggled to pay the bills, whilst they when on a champagne shopping spree with tax payers money.

  • Iron lady my fuckin arse.. Thatcher raped the UK and 2 years before this, she could use the Falkland war very well

  • My mate used to work in the Betteshanger pit in Kent, They was the First ones out, And last ones back. So much for Southern Softies, Unlike them Nottinghamshire scabs

  • i can remember this as a child of 6 years old as my father was a miner. it is only now a fully understand it. an orchestrated attack on the working class by greedy tory capitalist government with a political and economic agenda. Working class heroes in my eyes

  • @kevandshir After previous disputes the Myron plan was put into place, that and the Ridley commission to ensure secondary picketing could be outlawed, and all sorts of other draconian anti union laws could be invoked to disable further protest before open war with the NUM was sought in full.

  • The good days when unions worked for the people, not like the shower of shit running them now with their massive salaries, who dont care about it members who they use to fight their marxist agenda to destroy Britain from within.

  • @bostikbob Very true. They criticise the "Fatcats" yet most are just the same,Bob Crowe for one.Greedy hypocrites some of them making a good living out of "Socialism".

  • I want a pit job, fuck the risks danger is something men must face. It'd be better than the tedious, mind numbing and very feminine jobs on offer today.

  • @godkingRoss Since the policy in this country was to de-industrialise and import from abroad, you,ve had there old love.

  • @Flamorgan

Remember what John Stuart Mill said about conservatives: "Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives.".

  • Thacther should be shot look at the fuckin state of this country today no jobs for the younger generation. BRING BACK THE PITS!!

  • Real men Miners were...I should know, my Father was one...Lea Hall Colliery, Rugeley.

  • Hope to fuck thatcher dies shortly at least we will have 1 fuckin day to celebrate this year."

  • @markee91 spoken like a real scum

  • Scargill mentality. Keep producing Austin Allegros, over priced coal and black & tellies. Ban imports and retain a guaranteed market. Funny how such a genius, when he stood for Parliament, lost his deposit ....

  • history shown who was lying. 100% solid and proud. fuck the scabs. although i hope thatcher lives another 10 years sat in rubbers full of piss and shit

  • "Iron Lady" = strikes and Falklands War! what a shame indeed ...

  • Fuck the lazy,Cynical British worker and the Unions! Thatcher forever.

  • @SuperMaggierules So that means you're not a worker then ? Be nice to know what you do

  • @SuperMaggierules

During your heroine's reign of far-right capitalism the poor became 17% poorer.

What type of heartless, soulless woman would do that to fellow human beings?

She even sold off all the local authority/council housing stock, leaving the poor at the mercy of slum landlords.

She escalated the troubles in Northern Ireland causing more innocents to die.

If she gets into heaven, i'm moving to hell.

  • The Working Classes should never forget this long long year of struggle.

    # We Shall overcome

  • absolute respect for all members of the NUM from a member of the fire brigades union, SOLIDARITY !!!!

  • I feel sorry for the miners who actually wanted to work because they needed to support their families.

  • Hi, Thanks for the reply, I found the Selsden link interesting, my father , ex miner has been fed hatred from Scargill at source, but there is a lot of grey inbetween black and white. Look at the Isle of Man, because of low taxation lots of 'money people' live there, but they spend lotsof dosh, so employment is 99.5% the best in the world. The farmers have no 'set aside' payments and employ lots of people, those people spend money, creating more jobs. Anyway, my kind regards to all who read this

  • @MrJanesaddiction Do you know anything about Labours Ridley report that Callahan was too scared to impliment ?

  • Its always best to research all the facts, ie the Labour Ridley report that Callahan was to scared to impliment but Thatcher did, Kinnock pulled off a great rescue plan for the mines but Scargill rejected it, not only that but Scargill made up the the most undemocratric rules ever known in our country. Socialists blame Thatcher for breaking the miners strike but you look at the facts, of the money donated by the Russian miners , where was is ? ask Scargill .

  • @MrJanesaddiction I'll sput my views wher I want, this is Youtube, freedom of speech zone. Don't like what I say? Well you opted to be in the public domain of free speech. Get over yourself. I'd happily say what I need to ex miners, they're all in wheelchairs now, couldn't lift a tea cup let alone a pickaxe

  • Some of these faggot "real men" killed themselves after the iron lady got them out of a job because a woman broke their fragile male ego. Don't tell their families that mining wasn't making any money though, for them it's easier to blame conservatives

  • @RichardElden You're an idiot who'd never have the guts to confront a miner with shit like you come out with. Miners were hard working, tough lads with more courage than your worthless spine. You'll never enlighten us with what you do or who you are because you're a gutless keyboard warrior.@blowlamp Unless you were part of the conflict, you never understand; learnt that lesson with my missus who part of countryside alliance. Up the North and up Bold colliery... proud and Northern!

  • Send the bobbies in!

    God i love you 1980's britain :)

  • @RichardElden and your probably a worthless parasite who would'nt know a decent days hard work if you tripped you , i hope when your out on the road , you have a collision with an hgv and die a slow painfull death ,but most of all i hope im driving the thing, fuck yerself shit for brains, from the lads of plank lane pit near wigan

  • Thatcher born a cunt and hopefully will die one soon evil bitch can go burn in hell!!!!!!!!

  • @MrJanesaddiction Cheers fella,again stuff I didn't really have a clue about-food for thought that.

  • @MrJanesaddiction Cheers dude,Opens my eyes on the Thatcher/strike stuff, and there's a lot that I didn't know there. But the point I was sort of digging-was that not the way forward though? Smokestack industries and mob rule are really a thing of the past and it had to change at some point,I don't get why people vilify Thatcher so much.Like you say it's the way of life now-someone had to change it.

  • @MrJanesaddiction Mate, they were not shut for revenge????? It's cheaper to import it from Australia than keep them open losing money, that's the bottom line. The NUM was too powerfull for it's own right,Australian coal and no massive strikes, black nights or headache for the government-think about it dude.........

  • Why fuck Thatcher? why keep those mines open losing money-how good would that of been for the future?

  • @simontrowell what the fuck do u know, and I'm not your mate, she is an old cunt !

  • @berryje1964 Hmm..peace and love dude.

  • The rigth wingers never liked scargill. never give up.

  • I left school in 1980 I didn't get a job until I landed in Sydney, Australia in 1986, Australia has given me everything, all England gave me was no job and no hope of a future, to get a future I had to leave MY country of England. I hope Thatcher rots in hell, I'm not a person who hates, but I hate that old cunt !

  • @berryje1964 Why blame Thatcher for your own missfortunes? she wasn't super woman able to create jobs for all-she was a leader and led the country the best way she could, don't know why people give her such a hard time.

Take a step back calling people 'old cunt' it looks daft mate.

  • @simontrowell That bitch was born a cunt and will die 1 soon hopefully she put millions of people on the dole when we still have millions of tonnes of coal left in yorkshire and scotland

  • @berryje1964 you had the opportunity in australia because of the relatively (by comparison to england) low level of ridiculous union actions and greed that would have also suffocated our economy.

  • Kent miners had stood shoulder to shoulder with the Sheerness steel workers but when it came time to return the solidarity they stabbed them in the back like the Electricians union did in Wapping 1986!

  • Thank you - perfect marriage of song and video.

  • @MrJanesaddiction You's just have the balls stuck in your mouths or up each other

  • @demarch77 You be probably a stuck up his own arse little twat who knows community as private school but don't know who the fuck your parents are so Fuck You.x

  • @demarch77 only a complete fucking ignorant selffish prick thought like that back then... and only an absolute vile piece of shite still does...... .You really are an imbecile.

  • thatcher death straight to hell day = street party. bring a shovel.

  • @demarch77 eton educated? fucking wanker

  • I'm hearing lots of malicious stuff about working class people lately... Let's remember the brilliant qualities working class communities have... selflessly defending the vulnerable, standing together against the forces that seek to exploit us. What we lack in financial power we've always made up for in spirit; that's why we're so feared and they continue to try and discredit us.... And the fight goes on...............

  • Egypt it must we will frow off the old order.

  • It was the Miners' strike with an apostrophe.

  • @BRITLEGEND77 By the way, just looked at your bio page.....we you invloved in Corporate?

  • @BRITLEGEND77 We have the last laugh because we own our houses, have very well paid jobs while miners, steelworkrs?(oxymoron) and shipyard workers are on the fucking dole, scrounging gits! We will celebrate Maggies life because she changed the world for the better, while bitter little ticks like you remain, in the gutter!

  • @MrMickroach An arrogant and evil woman who did not care what it did to miners and their communities and who made the police act out their violent fantasies.Fuck her the witch,we scots will raise a glass when she goes.

  • @baillie67 No, she was a visoinary that tamed the unions who had emasculated this country and destroyed their own jobs. Easy to blame others but the unions and inate greed destroyed the mines, steelworks and shipyards. And with all due respect, who fucking cares what you "people" think, you are less than 6% of the UK total! WeEnglish are fed up being held to ransom by whinging minorities like you!

  • @MrMickroach You're having a laugh and visionary is not the word i would use.War criminal, fascist, bully, and the woman who stole the milk of the children is nothing to brag about.God bless the english miners and the welsh miners as well as the scots as well.As for whinging i dont mind paying of english debt with our oil and gas and mineral wealth. If it was not for us you and the rest of your tory wankbags would be on your knees.

  • @baillie67 Ah, scum from the gutter. I see you claim to hail from Canada so Iw ould ask, what business is it of yours? As for war criminal, would that be for defeating a facist invading force of British Soveriegn soil? Or could it be for exterminating IRA filth and vermin, neither were acts of war, just giving the bastards what they deserved. And you whinge like a sub working class jock, no it is not Scotlanbds oil you fuckwit, it is brought ashore there, what pathetic fools

  • @MrMickroach So im scum from the gutter am i? I would not stay in your part of the world mortgage free and the fact is england is a smelly shithole full of smelly shitholes and unfriendly people like yourself.Little englander.

  • @baillie67 Quite obviously the answer is...yes! And we dont want whinging scum like you, anywhere in the world! Parasite

  • @MrMickroach You are making a cunt of yourself but thats no surprise.Tell jeremy kyle im asking for him.

  • @baillie67 I think pot is calling to kettle, and if ots fits old son, wear it. As for jeremy kyle, who the fuck is he?? Is he one of your gay lovers by any chance?

  • @MrMickroach Is jeremy not your dad?

  • @baillie67 Would that by the effeminate bloke off airport with the goatee?

  • @MrMickroach No the effeminate bloke is your dad,the one that gives blow jobs tothe young guys outside the school. Now fuck off you dick.

  • @baillie67 Ah now I know, when the lady in Boots asks you what male grooming products you use, you answer "facebook and haribos!

  • @MrMickroach Your patter is brilliant.

  • that bitch has got live another hundred years or more EVERY FUCKING ONE IN AGONY

  • FUCK THATCHER AND HER PUPPETS !! EASINGTON COLLIERY !!!

  • The BBC. Don't ya just love em?

Ten years after, yes TEN YEARS AFTER, they admitted that the Orgreave footage was shown the wrong way around and had made the police look like the innocent party ie They charged on horseback in response to a bricking and not the other way around. Their excuse? In the heat of the moment and with news-deadlines to meet, the two clips were broadcast chronologically incorrect.

Compare this to the grovelling apology within hours of the Queen/Leibovitz cockup.

  • fuck maggie thatcher. die already

  • Thatcher knew full well what would happen. She was prepared to have paramilitary police beat the miners up and even suffer deaths. She should be brought to the Hague.

  • @Vorticistick Paramilitary police? Doesn't look like it, and the only people killed were by miners.

  • @09phillt what would you know , wanker

  • @dave2806 fucking hell of alot more than you, you silly wanker the police havent had a pay rise for 40 years

  • @09phillt 40 years , you are to stupid to be able to breath without a machine ! leave this sight toi those who where there and know what they are talking about . twat .

  • @dave2806 mate, i know police officers who've been policing since you were in nappies, so fuck off

  • @09phillt since i was in nappies ? that's funny cause i was born into a family of coppers as well as miners so i know it from both sides and i don't think any real copper or miner would piss on you if you where on fire so what the fuck attracts you to this site ? a sad gutless piece of wank like you get yourself off trying to be something your not ? no identity ? your pathetic .

  • @09phillt THOUGHT SO , YOUR A CHILD ! 26 AND NO EVEN SHAVING YET ! I WAS YOUR AGE WHEN THIS ALL KICKED OFF YOU WHERE NOT EVEN BORN YOU PATHETIC PIECE OF FILTH ! SAD KEYBOARD HERO TALKING SHIT ABOUT SOMETHING HE DOES NOT HAVE A CLUE ABOUT . GO PLAY WITH YOURSELF CHILD . THIS IS FOR REAL MEN NOT BOYS .

  • @dave2806 where does it say im a child you prick

  • @dave2806 Tell me old son, what have you done for your country? Have you earned teh righht to be so brutal to people by self sacrifice in the service of your country, or are you just a gobshite?

  • @09phillt and we all know wot coppers are; thugs in uniform

  • @bourkey2007 OK. Don't think that warrants a reply. Cheerio.

  • @bourkey2007 she sold out country for some magic beans!

  • @bourkey2007 I am sorry to read that you were born as female pudenda, that must be harsh, everyone seeing what a twat you are..

  • @MachiavellianHeir you tory prick

  • @cromo9 And?

  • @MachiavellianHeir love to meet you in a dark alley you fuking knob

  • @cromo9 To quote: "I think you're entering the realms of fantasy here, Jones".

  • @MachiavellianHeir You utter scumbag

  • @TheCaptainrum Matter of opinion, old chap.

  • my farger was in some of these riots.FUCK THATCHER

  • even though i was only a child at the time of the strike, i remember it ripping my village apart. What memories we should never let them die.

  • it is true the striking Notts miners had a hard time of it . I remember a bus load of us from out miners support group taking food parcels to them -a small gesture maybe but we wanted to show our admiration and recognition of the extra difficulties they were facing -it was bad enough here in Yorkshire but even harder for them

  • a sad time for british industry

who wouldn't fight to keep their job?

    Arther Scargill was so right.

i will shed tears when Thatcher dies........tears of happiness.

  • The price of coal was too high. They are are death holes.

  • Comment removed

  • i can't belive the shit i'v been reading, fuck me, my old man is still alive today, i got pics an video footage of him getting the fucking shit beatin out of him an his close friends because of thatcher. any one in this country who votes tory fuck um let um get whats coming to um. bunch of toff cunts who care about one thing, the royal family and the rich.

  • @joop4147 talk tidy will you. you let let down our class. workers of the world unite.

  • I have never attacked Scargill ..if you look at one of my previous posts below i have defended him...And if NACODS had come out on strike or looked as if they were, the government would have crumbled they just could not of risked all the mines being gassed out and flooding quite rightly as you said they would have never been workable..So they would have had to have conseeded as they still relied on coal from the uk..

Scabs,NACODS,The Labour Party,The TUC all had their part in the miners defeat

  • my dad worked in penallta pit south walesfor 34 years,he took part in these strikes and it was bad times, this video is a good video but one thing that i must say has really pissed me off is got to be the fact that at the begainng you say just scottish an yorkshire miners striked?????? very very very wrong. Thatcher an i choose my words very carefully was a cunt!

  • I HOPE SHE DIES SLOWLY ON HER WAY TO HELL

  • she aint got long left now,and when the bitch dies, im holding a street party all day and night

  • This police still haven't been forgiven for what they did and nor should they.

  • tbh i think maggie ran this country down hill

  • So the miners didn't kill anyone? FAGGOTS

The student who threw the fire extinguisher at riot police the other day is going to prison possibly for attempted murder.

That's how you do it YOU'VE GOT TO KILL PEOPLE

  • @69salford69 what by taking an innocent life, by talking a loved one out a family, no you put up with it and fight on as a miners son i know the stories that my dad and grandad did they just stood their ground like real men and i' am very pround of them.

  • @lookie1992

What do you mean "fight on"? Fighting is violence yeah? Don't forget the "innocent" police killed a genuinely innocent family man who was walking home from work.

That fire extinguisher would have been justice.

  • @69salford69 No they threw bottles bricks and caused general disorder which put policeman and bystanders in hospital with head and other injuries, least the students have something to strike about

  • The police are still as brutal against the pro-palestinian, anti-war, anti-capitalist and working class movements all over britain. But the class struggle is far from over. We celebrate this glorious chapter of our resistance, but the best is yet to come. Fight the cuts! fight capitalism! build socialism! dare to struggle, dare to win! red salute!

    prol

    cpgb-ml

  • It was Scargills fault that the mines closed down.

  • @pyro999maniac ....And how the fuck do you work that one out...another little kid that was still in his dads nut sack when all this happend..and has not got a clue.

You say you want to be a fireman and when they start shutting fire stations and laying firefighters off, which will happen under this govenment...who you going to blame...Matt Wrack of the Fire Brigades Union

  • @546803 All of Britians coal fired power stations are to be shut down,eu laws on global warming, mines would ve been shut down under labour, thats why labour did nt invest in coal technology.

  • @littleirelander ..You say that all of Britains power stations are to be shut down.

Yet the Government gave the all clear to build 4 new ones in 2009..And just this year in August coal fired powerstations have won a reprieve,so this is going to take years to do..The mines could have stopped open for years to come.

Yet now we have to rely on Foregin energy and higher prices...

And as for this so called man made global warming its a load of crap...Its just another way to scew more money out of you

  • @546803 Labour came to power in 1997,had 13 years to restore and upgrade technology to extract coal, new coal power stations should ve been built and running, Labour could nt care less about miners, used them to get at thatcher.

  • @littleirelander ...I totaly agree with you Labour did nothing for the Miners during the strike and after it ..But by the time Labour had gotten in power there was not much left and most of the mines had closed...the miners were attacked by the Tory's and betrayed by Labour

  • @pyro999maniac The blame for the pit closures lies 100% at the feet of those blackleg strike breaking scabs in the Nottinghamshire coal field!

Thatcher's govt was two days away from defeat til the blackgaurd UDM scum stepped in! All because they had the most modern pits and they thought their jobs were safe! Fat lot of good it did you, and you're still hated for your treachery!

  • @nappadang1 ...Not all the Nottinghamshire Miners scabbed,by the end of the strike there was approx 2,500 Notts strikers that were out on strike to the end.

And you forget to mention that most of South derbyshire scabbed as did Leicestershire were only 30 miners were out on strike ..these men became known as "The Dirty 30"...so please dont generalize all of Notts as scabs as these men that were out on strike were very brave and loyal men and had dignity and integrity..

  • @546803 It is a question of wording here. My post does not generalize and I never said all miners in the Notts coal field were scabs. My comment states that the blame lies with "those," not all blacklegs.

I accept that there were decent, loyal individuals and I also accept that it was not confined to just Notts. The fact remains that the blackgaurd sucm who formed the scab union are 100% to blame for the destruction of an entire industry!

  • @nappadang1 ...But may i just add that your wording seems to imply Notts as a whole..I am merely pointing out that ...1 not all Notts miners scabbed..and ...2...they scabbed in South Derbyshire and leicestershire..yet you just apply Notts which is totally wrong....And your wrong about the UDM they broke away and formed in 1985.

May i suggest too...another of the main reasons the miners lost, was the NACODS refusal to join the strike..they were just as much to blame for the pits closing

  • @546803 You belive what you will, the strike ended in 85 and the scab union was truly formed prior to that! It was also funded by the secert service! I apologise to any decent notts miners who I have offended, I accept that some of you can walk with your heads held high. As for NACODS, if they had gone on strike no one would have had a pit left to return to as they staved of potential floods etc.

Fact is that if the UDM had not broken ranks the miners would have defeted Thatcher's Govt!

  • @nappadang1 ..Can i ask you were you a striking miner..I was and was out the full duration..yet you seem to think you know more than me about it....Ido take on board at what you are saying if everyone had come out then it could of been a different out look..But Thatcher was hell bent on distroying the miners at what ever cost.... And i will say again if NACODS had have joined the strike we would have won,as the Government could not gamble loseing all the pits to flooding and gas

  • @546803 I wasn't a miner as I only left school in 1984. All of my family worked the Durham Coalfield, so I was directly affected. Also, I have studied it and its causes lenght. I don't profess to know more than you but I do know that pits not maintained by NACODS would never have been worked again! It is also a fact that if The UDM not scabbed the tory govt was defeted, A lot has been written attacking Scagill, try reading "THE ENEMY WITHIN" Semus Milne. You'll see exactly what went on.

  • @546803 Thatcher's govt was all but defeated, a hugh MI5 payoff and false promises caused a mass sell out in the Midlands (notts, derby, etc) This sell out and the forming of the blackguards union gave Thatcher time!

  • @nappadang1 And can i just say while were on about the Notts strikers....At my pit at the end of the strike...17 of us met up at the bottom of the pit lane and had a loney sad walk up to the pit all of us totaly gutted.

We had no marching band and crowds all cheering us as we went up the lane.

But we were Notts Striking Miners and proud of it and held our heads up high as we got to the pit our dignity and integrity intact.

  • @546803 We got off on the wrong foot. I apologise to you and all decent upstanding Notts miners who didn't break ranks. My late uncle was a pit deputy (westoe colliery) and was 100% behind the strike, their work ensured that the pit didn't flood and jobs were safe when the strike ended.. Other than that I agree that the TUC and Labour Party could have done more.

I'm sorry if you thought I was accusing you of attacking Scagill, I read your post and was aware of your views

  • @nappadang1 Thanks.yes suppose we did get off on the wrong foot mate..Its just that most people that have something to say about the strike always seem to put it as the whole of Notts scabbed which is totaly untrue and there never seems anything said about the brave and loyal Notts lads that were out on strike..History about the strike seems to forget this and is hardly mentioned. We had to put up with intimidation, threats and physical abuse from the scabs who more than outnumbers us

  • @546803 +nappadang1....ln September 1984 NACODS voted by over 80% to join the strike , that would have stopped all working pits in the country and Thatchers goverment would have had to concide defeat in a very short time......but for some reason the leadership of NACODS changed thier views and ordered thier men to stay at work..so the struggle went on . Why the NACODS leaders went against a majority vote of its own members...l dont know....but it cost us the strike

  • @alunhughes147 ..You are quite right in what you have said about NACODS voting for strike action..The leadership sold them and the miners down the river.

I will never understand why NACODS didnot join the strike as it was their jobs that were on the line too

If NACODS had of come out with the miners this dispute would have been resolved very quickly and stopped alot of hardship that the miners and their familys suffered..Thatcher would have had to back down, for fear of the pits flooding and gas

  • @546803 l also read your posts on the Notts area during the strike . Notts is too often thought of as a total scab area....and the majority of Notts miners were scabs....but then we come to the Notts striking miners...these men deserve the highest recognition for thier heroic stand during the strike...even more so than thier brothers in Kent , Yorkshire , South Wales , Scotland ect...whose areas were more or less solid . There should be more mentioned about these brave , loyal men..and women too

  • last year we had a night to celebrate 25years since the strike...............we are planning a bigger bash for when thatchers finally snuffs it ;)

  • i stand shoulder to shoulder with the (ex) miners, but scargill was a fool to think he could bring down thatcher.he was a militant, and he surrounded himself with militants.if he held that strike ballot, thatcher wouldnt have dared tap a single phone

  • Although I was born in the south of England, I come from a family from South Wales. Many proud mining communities have been destroyed by the inability of Thatcher to tell the difference between a public service and a private service. The Tories cared, and still continue to care, for the balance sheet over actual people. Now we have no industry in Britain thanks to her, and she has created a culture of greed and selfishness best shown in the recent economic collapse.

  • @reddingable How can you justify the Taxpayer footing the bill for inefficient industry? The unions stopped the UK industry from modernising like all the competitors were because they were worried about job losses!!! I say let it fail, there’s no way you can be financially stable as a country if you make steel, coal and cars at a huge loss!!

  • @pimpUK1 Inefficient industry? If Thatcher had left our industry alone, it would be in profitability today and we would have jobs in areas like Merthyr Tydfil, the so-called "unemployment capital" of Britain. It was attacked by the Daily Mail for being lazy, despite the facts there are no jobs or prospects for people in these communities as a direct result of the pit closures. Communities were built around the pits, and Thatcher single handedly destroyed all of them.

  • @reddingable Please explain how making something year after year using bygone techniques can be profitable unless of course its "handmade" or "home cooked". How can you mine more efficient than the open mines that use huge bucket wheel excavators? The largest in Germany can excavate 224,000 cubic metres of coal a day! As for Merthyr, if the jobs aren’t there, you move, everyone else has learnt economic emigration; if the UK or my area goes belly up I would move rather than sponge.

  • @pimpUK1 Studies have been conducted supporting my point. And as for Merthyr, the situation is not that simple. Many people cannot afford to move to other areas because they've grown up in a situation without that much money, and they won't have that much themselves. I'm not entirely sure how that is sponging, but there you go. Besides, if the mines were using bygone techniques, why couldn't Thatcher have invested in modernisation? It cost millions to shut the mines when they needed investment.

  • @reddingable don’t talk shit, Merthyr's near Cardiff and Newport where there are jobs. I got made redundant from a place in my town, 5 mins from home back in December so rather than wait for a job vacancy to appear at my next door neighbours I got off my arse and was working over 2 hours drive away. People that sit waiting for jobs to come for them are lazy buggers, I would rather there was no job seekers money, that’s what savings are for! As for modernisation the Unions blocked it due to jobs.
