To all the Elvis criticcs : Where are YOU on the singing ratings of the world ? Noone could touch the King , EVER. John Lennon (R.I.P. big man ) said ; "before Elvis , there was nothing "
Such an amazing singer but from the start ive always liked the orginal versions, of every song no matter who sings it i dunno probably just because it came first or something haha :P xxx
Elvis didn't want this to be released. It was just him fooling around with it in the studio, not even knowing all the words. RCA released it on an album without his consent.
Certainly not his best effort. In fact, it barely sounds like Elvis. Two good covers of Hey Jude are the Shirley Bassey Royal Variety 1987 and a delicious version by Nana Mouskouri, which sounds quite innocent and wonderful. Shirley does the best version. In the Spanish dress. Magnificent.
I think he does a very good version of this Beatles classic. When Paul covers Elvis it is Paul imitating Elvis and quite well, but Elvis doing "Hey Jude" is pure Elvis. No one sings "Hey Jude" with as much feeling as Paul but damn, this is good!
i love hey jude i love the way elvis sing this so and elvis so lovely i love elvis so very much elvis is the best i am a big fan of elvis all my life sins i was very little girl
i like the Beatles, but Elvis was THE God of music! When he touched a song, that became pure magic, and every other version sounded like from amateurs. Always the King
@Petros4paok, with all respect to the King, the magic of a Beatles song can never be touched by anyone else.....we have grown up reading about gods but they were real gods who walked this world and their songs shall remain as virgins forever; untouched by the ages gone and ages to come.
Elvis could take any song and make it into pure magic. I like his version of Hey Jude, even though he didn't use the same words that the Beatles wrote.
@TheBeatlesWizard Isn't it obvious that he's taking the song into his own hands and making it more than it was. Elvis takes the song to a new level. You sir, need to relax and just enjoy the song and listen in amazement.
@TheBeatlesWizard Yeah, this was just a "scratch vocal" to lay the backing track down, it was intended Elvis would go back and dub a new vocal with the ALL the lyrics..but for some reason it was shelved and released 3 years later due to RCA needing to fill out an album called "Elvis Now"...I like the sound of the song, but as you said, shame about the missing lyrics.
Just found out that he covered this, by reading a scathing mini-review. You know what? As much as I love the Beatles, I have to say Elvis does a great job here. Best of all, it doesn't even sound like he's trying very hard. He really was that good.
@purpledave100 If we focus on singing (because this song doesn't have any good backup) I think Elvis version is just as good as Paul's. Elvis did never write his own songs anyway, but he can sings whatever you'll ask him to sing; the unquestionable king of rock 'n' roll.
@MissPhoenix3 I AGREE!!!! John Lennon and Bob Dylan should have just written for ELVIS, Sold the rights and all to ELVIS for $1,000,000. Cause ELVIS makes every song better! ELVIS LIVES
I would have loved to have heard this live! I mean the whole song not just the Na, Na, Na, part he did with Yesterday when he sang it live. I think it would have been a million times better. And it wouldn't have the voice cracks as the studio. But this is still one of my favorite versions of the song!
I totally agree with lovestarwars. I love this version of this song. Elvis has this way of making other songs his own. I too downloaded this song. I LOVE THIS!!
For all those who say it's not "his best" or "it could have been better", listen to the original, and then listen to this... It's practically a godsend ;) Elvis will always been a figure of inspiration and "The King of Rock and Roll" :D
A lot of Elvis fans don't like this but I like the way Elvis does it and sings in yet another one of his many voices.. Not one of the Beatles best but Beatle Paul keeps singing it at charity concerts etc when he could do so many better songs
I don't understand why so many fans don't like this version. I love it. E's version is better than The Beatles in my opinion. Going to put it on my Ipod now...
elvis always liked paul and george's material. never did a lennon song tho. I like his recording of lady madonna ,he really is having fun on that one. maybe paul could dub a duet on these recordings .
THIS IS PURE ARTISTRY. NO, YOU CANNOT DO IT BETTER THAN THIS. IT IS PERFECTION. IT IS WHAT HE WANTED TO DO. HE DID IT. AND IT IS STUNNING. IT TELLS THE STORY OF THIS SONG...ALL OVER AGAIN...IN A BRAND NEW WAY....IT SAYS...I AM ON THE EDGE OF BEING BROKEN WHEN HIS VOICE CRACKS...BUT I AM HIGH ON THIS FEELING OF HOPE AND LOVE....AND REACHING FOR THE BEST INSIDE OF US....IT IS A CRY...A WISH...AND A SMILE...ROLLED INTO ONE. THIS MAN IS MAGIC. HEAR HIM SAY LET IT OUT AND LET IT IN.... 1:54
@MICHAELPEERY This is probably one of the most amazing things he ever did. Do u know how much he went against the grain of his natural style to sound like this? Someone said..they heard this on the radio and didn't believe it was Elvis..that is amazing man. He did this on purpose..just another stunning display of his artistry. He's inducted in 5 music halls of fame titling him a master artist in 5 genres (only man in history) of course it takes incredible vocal artistry changing voice for genres
MY NEW FAVORITE ELVIS SONG...AND BY THE WAY ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS OF ALL TIME AS WELL ;) THAT RATES THIS SUCKER PRETTY DAMN HIGH ON MY LIST!!!!! MY GOD!!!!!! I'M DYING OVER HERE!!!!!!!!!!
WOW.... I know Elvis enough to know that he is paying tribute to John Lennon's vocal style in this. It is just amazing. Changing his voice that much, is vocal mastery to say the least. Okay now I'm in love. If he says "better" one more time...I'm gonnnnnnaaaa.... "Let it out and let it in :50. "to making this WORLD a little better." 1:00. Is there anything this man can't do with his voice? God!!!!!!!!
i thought i had heard all of his songs. i never knew he recorded his version of hey jude. heard it for the first time on the radio couple days ago i could not believe it was him.
@lizardwar Your comment that you thought you'd heard ALL of his songs and when you heard this on the radio...you could not believe it was him....says it all. Elvis's ability to change his vocal style so dramatically is one of the reasons his voice is thought of as a phenomenon by scholars and he is the Only Man inducted into 5 Genre Halls of Fame..titling him a master artist in 5 genres of music. (Rock, Country, Blues, Gospel, Rockabilly) Our resident vocal God! ;-)
He could've hummed the song and it still would be the best damn version of it! Long live the king! See Shawn Klush perfectly recreate this and so many other great songs.
Thats All Right Mama, I Want You, I need You, I love You, And a couple others I think maybe All Shook up? I don't know but there were a couple on Live at the BBC
I love this song. My favorite artist is Elvis by a Universe, but the best version of this song comes from The Beatles; although, Elvis' version is also fantastic. He is unbelievably talented.
This actually was not supposed to be released...it was recorded in 1969 in Memphis, this is a "Scratch Vocal" and Elvis was to re-do his vocal with the correct words, but he never went back to it..RCA was short of material when they decided to release this in 1972 on an album called "Elvis Now"....even though it's an unfinished master,I love it !!!!
What do you mean? Elvis didn't make a single mistake with the lyrics and if he changed something, he had the right to do so, because he was making a cover of the song. It doesn't always have to be exactly the same, one can use his creativity and talent.
Elvis is a beautiful man with a beautiful voice. Elvis can sing anything because Elvis sings from the heart. Elvis is also a wonderful kind hearted man. I keep Elvis in my heart. I love Elvis with all my heart.
Written by Paul McCartney and John Lennon. The instrumental track for Elviss version was recorded on January 22, 1969 at American Sound Studios in Memphis; Elvis recorded the vocal track at a later date. He would sometimes sing Hey Jude in concert in a medley with Yesterday. It is available on Elvis Now, Suspicious Minds [1999] and From Nashville to Memphis-The Essential 60s Masters.
Of the handful of Beatle songs that Elvis recorded, mostly live on stage, this studio version of Hey Jude is the best of the lot. Someone once described it as blue eyed soul and thats accurate. Beautiful, loving version. Paul wrote it for John's son, Julian.
@Slashslashslash114 Absolutely right...my bad! But he is clearly infusing what I believe in his mind is the "Beatles" sound. You know what I mean. He is really doing it out of respect. Even though he had an issue or two with the Beatles he truly respected them as artists. And Lennon clearly honored Elvis when he did I Got A Woman..mimicking so many of E's inflections...keeping the guitar sound same...ending it the same. I'm sure Elvis noticed that and appreciated it. Elvis missed nothing!!!!
everything elvis sings he just does it better

What do you mean? Elvis didn't make a single mistake with the lyrics and if he changed something, he had the right to do so, because he was making a cover of the song. It doesn't always have to be exactly the same, one can use his creativity and talent.

muy buena esta versión, creo que es más bonita que la original.
creo también que esta marcada la diferencia entre un cantante y showmen nato como Elvis ahi de lejos le gana a los beatles

@Jackiej61too it was written only by Paul McCartney :)

@waianapagirl of course It's Beatles sound.
