He was following the police car, therefore, if he was speeding, so was the cop. Its probably a pretty common assumption that a citizen can follow the police at the same speed without being in violation of any laws, In the begining of the video the officer pulls directly in front of what looks to be a temporary 40mph sign, completely obstructing the view to the driver behind him.

That was fun. I think you could tighten up that video a bit, the first 8 and a half min were a little boring I must say but the payoff was worth it. Watching baggy pants get tased was awesome. The ONLY thing this cop was guilty of is not clearly stating: "Take your hands out of your pockets."

Here is a hint for anyone being pulled over... don't walk away from a cop while putting your hand in your pocket. You could be reaching for a weapon and at that point, you are begging a cop to tase you... or even draw his gun.

4. When John asks Jared out of the car, he has already made up his mind to use the taser. Just a bit trigger happy, but John was sick and tired of arguing with Massey.

1. This is what happens when ego meets ego.

2. This looks like somewhere between mile marker 137 and 138. Probably closer to 138. There was a 40 mph sign at mile marker 136, so Jared had been in the 40 zone for well over a mile.

3. The reason for the reduced speed was because they were adding a passing lane and there was loose gravel at the time so they were trying to save a few winshields.

found an article via google that states that the driver paid the $107 speeding ticket. i'm curious, how and when did the officer determine that the driver was speeding? there appears to be the orange 'road work' sign, then the 40 mph sign, but the police car is slowing down and moving to the shoulder to let the suv pass. is the police car equiped to tell if a car coming up from behind is speeding?

I'm not sure where people got this myth that the cop didn't tell him why he was pulled over or didn't warn him before tasing him. He tells the guy he was going to fast and the guy even admits to going well over the speed limit and starts arguing that there was no sign (you can see one at the beginning of the video saying 40 mph).

The cop tells him to put his hands behind his head and he looks at him like he's crazy. The he pulls a taser and tells him 3 more times! How is that not clear?

Hey Chris- You didn't watch this video closely enough... refusing to sign a paper is not a serious threat to the life of this cop, but the suspect putting his hand in his pocket as he walks away from the cop IS A THREAT TO HIS LIFE.

The first thing cops learn is to watch peoples hands, not their eyes... their eyes won't kill you, but their hands will. Watch how this suspect is putting his hand in his pocket as if he's retrieving something... if it's a gun, the cop could die in a second.

Both were wrong. Being in law enforcement, I can feel for the cop, however, there are better ways to handle this situation. The driver didn't show aggression or any means of force against the officer or had any weapons. The driver though, should have obeyed the officer's commands and not get upset, which could esculate, but it did any way when the officer tased and cuffed him. Like I said, BOTH were wrong. If he was going to ask anything, he SHOULD have asked to see the radar reading and the calibration date of said radar, instead of worrying if the sign really exists. Many jurisdictions require that the officer allow you to see the radar. Don't press it if the officer says no because that's what a courtroom is for. But, at least ask, then ask a few more questions to show that you are watching.

You might ask, "When was the last time your radar gun was calibrated?" or "Where were you when you clocked my speed?" or "Were you moving when you clocked my speed?"

Officer is clearly in the wrong here. When someone refuses to sign a ticket the standard is for the officer to write refused to sign on it. The ego of this wannabe tyrant is astounding. As is this misperception of having to do anything an officer says. They do not have the right. Laws about following officers directions were written for directing of traffic, and actual public safety issues. This state trooper should clearly be fired. Actually in many or all states it's an offense that warrants you being placed under arrest and taking you down to the station until your hearing or until you agree to sign the ticket.

Usually the morons get as far as the police station and then decide, "Maybe I should stop being a friggin idiot and sign the thing?" but by that time it's too late. Once you're in custody you MUST be processed. After that it depends on where you live, but a lot of times you have to rot in jail for a time.
