well that is splitting hairs ain't it? if the mans work is primarily animated in nature.so calling him anything but an animator would be ludicrous. holding the technique of hand painted cells over his head and pretending that technologies do not advanced or become outdated is simply not being honest. the guy is a genius in that he is treading a frontier of sorts and that will always make good controversy. he walks the line with extreme vision and style.

If a guy woks in animation but is not an animator then he is not an animator. He can be a director. traffic manager, checker, etc. but not an animator. This is not an esoteric ludicrous analogy, this is sanity.

Chung has had one style his entire career. He has laid plenty eggs to. Plus he's been swiping Egon Schiele for years. He's interesting no doubt. I personally like his work. Genius? Hardly.

He is more talented than most mainstream guys but he has never actually drawn any animation in his life. He has done lay-out production design and boards (directing) but he has NEVER done ANY frame by frame character animation. So while he has WORKED on animation he has never CREATED and animation. He is not an animator in the real definition of the word anymore than Tim Burton is.

That being said I enjoy the projects he works on. Lets just be careful with throwing the genius lable around.
