well the desert eagle is probably more a hunting weapon than a fighting weapon.
Its a hunting weapon for the fact that what you hit will probably go down but with few bullets in the magazine, time between shots is long and high recoil you probably want a colt 45 or something for warfare.
@Samwd1 No the desert eagle is not made for hunting, it's nearly impossible to hit anything with it, for gunting you'd bring a revolver. It was originally designed for combat but it was such a big piece of shit that it just became a sports weapon used in competition which even then it fails.
@Treblaine Doubtful if it's just one guy then yes but the weapons weight and recoil make it almost impossible to switch between targets fast enough to make it effective. I'd take a P229 over a DEAGLE any day.
But gangsters aren't fighters, they're bullies. Their main weapon is intimidation of those weaker than them, that is where a ridiculously overpowered gun is preferred: intimidation value.
If gangsters fight it is not themselves against many, they'll call on their bully boys and gang up on each one, one by one.
@Treblaine Intimidation factor doesn't matter, practicality does. A desert eagle would serve no use in any combat situation, also a combat situation is not just military. A bunch of gangsters still counts as a combat situation. Also don't talk about gangs like their nothing but a bunch of cartoon villains, many of them are kids who grew up in a gang because they didn't have as many options as we did growing up. More often then not gangs exist for survival.

If some street punk is more scared of a Desert Eagle from it's movie/game reputation (that the little combat experience they lack) then it's a suitable tool for the "job" which is more about waving guns around than shooting them.
@Treblaine I don't really think the scare factor has anything to do with it, if someone points a gun at you, your not gonna say "Ha that's only a beretta!" your going to be saying "oh shit a gun!!!" the model has no bearing on this as all guns kill people.
The 50 cal version does not have very good accuracy but it's got the power for when you need it. The 44 and 357 versions are decent, though certainly not for everyone due to their size and weight.
