I can't understand why Emerson has to use all these stupid sounds instead of the originals. Even if he can't bring the Hammond around, they can duplicate the original sounds sampled. I hate when keyboardist use cheezy sounds. Even Wakeman does it too! Fans like the original sounds with just a tad bit of different sounds but keep most of the song intact please!
I'm a real LUCKY MAN because I was there and saw them playing live. I will never forget that at the end of the show I was less than 3 meters from Keith and his keyboards.
Is there a version of them playing this anywhere near the right tempo? The show from '74 is a coked out race to the finish and this..well...sounds like somebody requested the wedding band to wing it for a $100 tip. Slowed down so much they started playing backwards...The end of poor Keith's solo may as well have been "shave and a haircut"- Oh well, i know health issues and whatnot played a part. God bless 'em.
Saw club gig of Emerson w. his own band 'round '05 in NYC. Much better than ELP. I love ELP, but they're a spent force. No intensity here, and I really don't know what happened to Carl Palmer. He used to be so fleet, now he's all banging-of-heavy-toms and whatnot. At least Keith has an excuse for slowing down.
Nice to see they can still play, but this honestly sounds like a lounge act version of the song. The earlier versions had so much energy . this sounds like a kids bop version
@MrNagy60 It doesn't help that Lake didn't bring out the six-string. His guitar breaks on that song outright SOARED. Except for '77, though. I didn't dig that rendition.
