Ashlee Littlejohn - Ashlee's a 18 year old second year biology major who's pursuing the music industry. She's coming world with a hot new single this January 2011 thats going to have the clubs bangin.
hey check out my raps on my page and let me know how close or far they are to being demo ready.... they are just rough drafts i still need to get to the studio and re record mix and master but let me know PLZZZ thanks so much
He is right about presenting your best BUT YOU shouldnt ever "send it out". Believe me, if you make a demo and send it to a major label, in 3 months you will get a rejection letter and I promise you, the demo will never be listened to. You need a 3 song demo (not more, not less) with the best song first. You need a bio and a 5.5x11" black and white photo. THEN you need a reputable agent to shop this promo pack to the labels. If they like the first 10 seconds they may listen more.
For multi-track recording, arranging your tracks, mixing/mastering and virtual instruments/effects most people use Cubase. Cubase isnt cheap but it will do everything even mix in surround sound. It seems that the "cool thing" is to use Pro Tools but unless u have a studio as big as EMI studios, then I wouldnt recommend it as it is a dinosuar that costs way more than other hardware/software which has more features. Pro Tools might be the "Indistry standard". but thats only cos it's "bling bling"
Pro Tools is just another DAW as far as software goes. The industry standard is called Pro Tools HD. It is different (although just about the same software) is runs on DSP cards you install in the computer. It handles all the processing of the session. It is the industry standard because it is very powerful, no latency, it works in real time along with outboard gear, and is absolutely rock solid. No crashes, no glitches and high end plug ins and sound. I love it.
@TheProgmagog Pro Tools is very capable but there are other DSP manufacterers that offer you the same thing for all DAWs. My EMU 1616 soundcard does have suprisingly good VST hardware processing. As you said, Pro tools is generally very stable due to its all-in-one combonation handled all under oner company. I just hate all those who brag about their mixes being done in Pro Tools when others are just as good.
Yes, I also really loved the UAD stuff. As far as sound goes, there is no difference. What I like about PT is how you can use those plug ins during tracking, sort of like we could when we used a mixer and outboard processors. They dont go to track with those effects (unless you set it up in a way to do so) but its cool to work that way. Deffinately not a necessity. Just cool. The stability though, makes you look much more pro for clients. My Logic crashes were embarrasing.
@TheProgmagog Have you tried Cubase 5 yet? It's got much better routing than previous versions with its new Control Room features. The only problems I've had with this new version is that the 32bit to 64bit VST Bridge is a little buggy with old 32bit instruments and FX but they are continueing to fix this.
No, I havent tried Cubase at all personally, but it is very poplular here in Europe. I started on a Tascam MSR 16 1/2" sixteen track and a Mackie 32.8. When I went digital I got a Motu 2408MkII and used that with Logic. I added a TC Powercord, then two UAD-1 cards. I really loved it actually. I just got frustrated with the "house of cards" situation. The more I added, the more problems arose. So for me PTHD is perfectly stable. Now that it works, I wont fix it. Not even upgrade.
@TheProgmagog I live in Europe too :) I think Cubases popular because a lot of schools/coleges use it and of course it is a european program. The big problem with PT is if you have a tight budget. Frankly the Mbox and PT lite are a bit of joke compared with a lot of other soundcards/ budget DAWs.
Yeah, I dont think I would choose PTLE over any of the other DAWs. I think LE is what gave PT a bad rep. I mean its fine, but when people confuse that for a TDM system, they must be wondering "Whats all the hype about?" The only thing I like better as far as the software is the way audio is handled in editing. But I dont think LE can do a lot of the cool editing functions of HD. I use a lot of MIDI sometimes, but I am more involved with Audio recording. Where are you from?
@TheProgmagog lol I'm from the MIDI/VST side and lol I do remember the days before VST, I still have a Proteus MK1 in my racks :D I stuck with using Cubase because of its ergonomic way of editing midi. Around 2003 I did try both Sonnar and Logic but I found myself to be quicker with Cubase. Wasn't Cubase the first DAW to support multiple controller lanes within a piano roll editor?
man come with some helpful info! not just some basic elementary knowledge, everybody knows that, i thought this was expert village??? give me some real helpful knowledge
the topics he is discussing are how to navigate the industry. If u were interested in how to play the base or how to play guitar or even how to rap simply type it into the search engine. Rap is simply pure writing. i guess you could say it has no substance and depth. but to say that would say that all forms of writing is the same. some people put out bull shit in rap just like rock and country ect.
These videos suggest that musical artistry and rap are barely related. During this video series, no instruments were shown, nothing significant about song writing or musicianship was mentioned, and production and recording were only covered superficially. Instead, most of the focus was on image, selling yourself, finances, videos, promotional material, dress, style, etc., which suggests to me that rap is more a tool for making money and becoming famous than it is an actual art.
