it is easier and beter to do it in world 1-1 then you take the shel then go yo the midle of the stairs and wait for it to (escape) then hide fast and the jump like on he chows.

By the way, I love New Super Mario Bros so much that I speed ran the last level, and got the best possible time; 703. The level started at 800, meaning I took 97 in-game seconds.

Search for "New Super Mario Bros" and find a video of it. It wouldn't be mine, but you'd see what getting the record looks like. I discovered that it's possible to do the beginning slightly faster than in the run, but ending with 704 is still impossible.
