@nymetsrock Blink 182 punk is reffering mainly to teenagers!(Anthem.Anthem part 2) and blink never asked anyone what to do they did what they want to do!!! Even now!!!
Because Punk it's not only the sound, the music, Punk is a lifestyle - Billie Joe Armstrong
telling people that you have to fit a given criteria to be punk, is VERY not punk.
So keep telling people that they are or are not punk because they dont CONFORM to your ideals. Meanwhile, they have the balls to not CONFORM to your bullshit. How about you just give it up, find another bandwagon to jump on? Because if you are gonna tell people they are or are not punk, then man, you need to look in the mirror and see the face of everything that is NOT punk, staring back at you.
Descendents are a legendary punk band PERIOD! They influenced and paved the way for countless bands that sold millions of records like Blink, Green Day etc etc. I'll take Milo Goes To College over any album by The Sex Pistols, DK and The Ramones...and I love The Ramones.
people that sit around and say whats punk and whats not and has nothing better to do than tell people they arent punk dont know what punk really is. Descendents are a good band.
@TRE1275 I usually call the Descendents the Weezer of the punk world, and I call Weezer the Descendents of the alternative rock world. The similarities in subject matter and the looks of both Milo and River are too much to ignore. But I am a fan of both, so *I* see the similarity as a positive thing. Neither is ripping the other off. They're both epic in their own ways.
@rebelbrown101 milo goes to college ranks above this, and so do a lot of others in my opinion, but maybe you just havent been fully introduced yet, or maybe you have, i dont know
This is so funny. Ever heard Beach Boys "When I Grow Up To Be A Man"? It's obvious wear the lyrical inspiration for this song came from if you know what I'm talking about.
If anyone thinks they know what the punk movement was about, why don't you tell me why you care to tear down another band, and try to disprove that they consider themselves a punk band? You obviously give too much of a fuck about classification and are wrapped up in labels and all similar bullshit. You know nothing about punk rock if you have to take time out of your day to look for videos of "non-punk" bands and state your unwanted opinion. If you don't like the Descendents, that's fine. GTFO!
@calebmNelson Thank You, I almost can't stand this "emo" stuff but i'm not gonna hate on a kid in skinny jeans with makeup onat a h2o or Dropkick Murphys show. That's never what the scene was about. I was born in '78 the pistols hit big in '77. When I went to all ages shows in the '80's and '90's tje Ramones fans from back in the day didn't hate on me.
@tomvear - I stand by every word you have just said about his not being punk. Well, I suppose its kind of punk. You know, the half-assed kind of embarrassing, non-threatening punk that radio stations would play over the "other" type of punk that is worth listening to like the Ramones, Sex Pistols or the Dead Kennedys to name a few. Anyway, punk exists in a totally different guise nowadays - its only the dinosaurs that still have mohawks and kilts.
@MrSatisfiction you really dont know what your talking about. just because a band has a softer sounding less thrashy song doesnt mean shit.theyre musicians. they wrote a fucking song. and this is what came out.awesome. they played with the best of em.im happy that the descendents dont sound like the ramones or the pistols or even dk. because then it would be the same old shit. and believe me.theres way better bands then the ones you just named if you want to get hardcore punk. in the UK and US
@MrSatisfiction Too bad all three of those bands probably got double the airtime that Descendents ever got. Go shove the stand-for-nothing Johnny Rotten up your ass and let people enjoy their music.
@tomvear You're obviously one of those ghetto rap teenagers, girl obviously, that think they can say anything they want. Our music is better than whatever YOU listen to. Yes, I capitalize and use apostrophes, so call me a nerd, loser.
@ogreskulls some of the other big influences on some of the neo pop punk are the vandals, sloppy seconds, and old stuff green day wrote. All of which were started either mid to late 80s. sloppy/green day were later than the vandals.. that's my opinion.. but i believe it to be factual. I think it's because the descendents were the earliest of these bands, they get all the credit for it. though i like all 4 bands :D mostly descendents/the vandals.
@heymaxsup their original guitarist, Frank Navetta died. Stephen Egerton has been their guitarist for years though and is still quite alive. they are playing around this year.
@missionblank1 hahaha I have seen that Family Guy episode. Pert is great, no question, but for straight ahead punk/rock, Bill is untouchable. His drum rolls and timing are f'n INSANE!!!
Ah man, I love Descendents. Wish they'd play some live shows these days--they're the last band that I haven't seen that I'd really like to. I've been lucky enough to catch all of my other favourite bands live.
such a great band. love to see a band thats been around since pretty much the dawn of west coast punk. so many generations that they've reached. so fucking rad.
I found out what it is like now that I'm old. I ride my bike, don't care about being anyone, definitely not like other adults. I'm poor, don't sleep on the floor, but I sure do like grabbing my girlfriends ass. I still hate cops, and all my grown up friends can go fuck themselves if they want to judge me. I do myself proud, and I do what I want. Punk till death, whatever the fuck that means. DYI
@mlew yea, me too but even at 30 it makes you think about even further down the line.. cuz your never really old untill you allow your self to give up...
O.K. this will finally now finnnallllyyy be my last saved favorite on my page--I believe too many are harder to keep track of and this one defines my page.....yeah Billy Stevenson the drummer had a girlfriend in Minneapple so we always got to talk to him on the curb outside the Entry waitin' to get in..a free food place on one corner a liquor store directly across First Ave (or Uncle Sam's the old converted greyhound bus depot back then was Prince's First Ave club)
I am the god of punk. I modify all my clothes, even my underwear, and put studs on everything. I hate the police, i hate 'the man'. Anarchy is a realistic goal. Any music written after 1978 is not punk. It's pop music. I constantly judge people and bands, because no one is as punk as me. Seriously though, there are some people out there who need to quit judging music for genres. Unless it's shitty 'emoXcore' nonsense. Then you can judge all you want
@unshamed Alright dude let me break this down. Yes, fuck the government. I agree fully. Between anarchy and this god forasken piece of shit we call a government, you have to pick the lesser of two evils. Your clothing does not matter. fuck that. Otherwise music is great no matter what it's orient, we do need to embrace that. I don't want some punk ass suit holding me down as much as the next guy, but in anarchy you don't have a chance, you can get murdered and w/ no vengeance. I'd want a
@unshamed chance to get back, rather than burn out, like I was worthless. Punk music, is not some reckless lifestyle, it's music. Also Descendents are post '78.
@ dalegov, I think the sarcasm of my statement may well have been lost on you. I don't modify my clothes, and I enjoy a great deal of post 1978 punk, in fact, with a few exceptions I find most pre 78 punk atrocious. I don't believe anarchy is a realistic goal, and I love descendents. I apologise for misleading you, but I loathe all this 'I'm punk and you're not' bullshit. By the way, kudos for not just attacking me for my previous statement, even though I was joking. most people on youtube would
@unshamed Right, it was definitly an attack, right, you can definitly get a sacrcastic tone from text, it's all coming together now...soooo I don't know what you want from me, i was just stating my piece, I mean I know you don't feel like more of a dick, even though you should. Just throwing that out there.
@ dalegov, I really have no idea what you are talking about. Needless to say whatever we've said to each other doesn't actually matter anyway, so I won't lose sleep over it, and nor should you. Cheers.
@erichitz79 You need to check out othe Descendents songs. I'm the one is kind of pop to, but if you get into their older stuff, you might like it. Also check out "ALL" When Milo was out that's the band everyone else fucked with. Milo helped them out occasionaly to.
omg stop mailing and STFU looks like nofx is still selling records... Looks like they did it right. and this is weak punk the lyrics are for girls. its punk lite

Ah man, I love Descendents. Wish they'd play some live shows these days--they're the last band that I haven't seen that I'd really like to. I've been lucky enough to catch all of my other favourite bands live.

One more thing, the Descendents will never burn out. Their music is as great now as it was when they started. Coolige fuckers!

DYI

does anyone know if the video was shot in Ft. Collins while they were there? Hard to say from the exteriors or bike ride shots.

O.K. this will finally now finnnallllyyy be my last saved favorite on my page--I believe too many are harder to keep track of and this one defines my page.....yeah Billy Stevenson the drummer had a girlfriend in Minneapple so we always got to talk to him on the curb outside the Entry waitin' to get in..a free food place on one corner a liquor store directly across First Ave (or Uncle Sam's the old converted greyhound bus depot back then was Prince's First Ave club)

Also Descendents are post '78.
dalegov 1 year ago
@ dalegov, I think the sarcasm of my statement may well have been lost on you. I don't modify my clothes, and I enjoy a great deal of post 1978 punk, in fact, with a few exceptions I find most pre 78 punk atrocious. I don't believe anarchy is a realistic goal, and I love descendents. I apologise for misleading you, but I loathe all this 'I'm punk and you're not' bullshit. By the way, kudos for not just attacking me for my previous statement, even though I was joking. most people on youtube would
unshamed 1 year ago
@unshamed Right, it was definitly an attack, right, you can definitly get a sacrcastic tone from text, it's all coming together now...soooo I don't know what you want from me, i was just stating my piece, I mean I know you don't feel like more of a dick, even though you should. Just throwing that out there.
dalegov 1 year ago
@ dalegov, I really have no idea what you are talking about. Needless to say whatever we've said to each other doesn't actually matter anyway, so I won't lose sleep over it, and nor should you. Cheers.
unshamed 1 year ago
@unshamed Also I wouldn't put it past you modifying your underwear.

I wasn't, I felt it was pretty easy to get the gist but whatever, take it easy.
