  • Eddie again(used to jam w/them in the 90's). Jamming with them was my highlight as a musician, but what a dream/thrill to let Sheila E play my congas

once at Bunker's with the Combo, on one of Prince's birthdays.

  • Eddie again(used to jam w/them in the 90's).

Their covers were actually better in most cases than the originals(ex. Tower Of Power covers and Michaels's drum solos).

(I was not the flashiest congero, but I had good tempo, good sound from my hands on skins, able to nail down my groove.)

They were generous to have me jam with them. Better stop for now as I could go on....

  • My name is Eddie and I used play congas with Dr Mambos Combo, both at the Cabooze and Bunker's in the mid-90's to 1995. Michael Bland I believe was the best all around drummer, as I sat next to him and at that time I was seriously into jazz for years, having listened to so many drummers and percussionists.

  • This was when this band was at it's finest. They just rocked Bunker's. One of my favorite house bands EVER. Always a great sound system too. This video does not do it justice.

  • I remember those days... well, not as well as I probably should. On Monday & Tuesday nights my buddies and I would drive to Minneapolis from "south of the river" just to see the legendary Combo perform. I now live in Vermont and miss those days and that scene more than ever. Thanks for posting!!!
