I feel really conflicted about this song. On one hand, it betrays a vast arrogance, and I feel really patronized by "you shall resume your callow ways" (and worse, I feel it was meant to be patronizing)... but damn. This sounds great. And what annoys me most about it is that he's not entirely wrong.
Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock. My heartbeat falls in rhythm with the clock as I draw close to my prey. I leave nothing to chance, for you see it is the most dangerous prey of all, a four foot tall asshole in suspenders who won't shut up. Wait for it, Hussie. Wait for it...
What a great song. Didn't even know that this was a song they made... Heard it on a podcast and fell in love with it. Seen them live 5 times now... Really hoping they'll play this live more often... :)
Wow, its weird to have 1 persons entire life ambition and struggle summed up in one song. And It's beautiful. I even get teary eyed at the end. "I was meant for applause" - I definately applaud you Colin. <3 (:
How silly of you not to catch the irony... This song is hilarious. You see that smile on his face when he starts off [unfortunately missed out] and you KNOW it's some big joke. Or it could be a humour test, to which you failed.
I mostly disagree with you. Yes the song is not meant to be taken literally, but I do believe that the spirit of the song is honest. There is a certain genuineness of the heart of a true performer within the song for me. But to each his own.

Don't assume he writes about himself. He rarely (if ever) does.

the song is literal, it is about the relationship artists have with their non-artist parents

@vervecovers Just from my camera (Canon S5IS). I was pretty close, and I've had good luck recording shows in the past. Glad you like it!

Never seen an acoustic guitar, a pianist, and a cello jam so hard in a song, in my life.

Remember this people...The urge to perform is NEVER an indication of talent whatsoever.
