1:12 Oh come on. We all know the first Nick Cave died shortly before the recording of The Birthday Party's last EP, vocals done by his principle Melbourne body double, "Mutiny In Heaven". No need to try to be cuter than Roland S. Howard about that fact of the matter.
Full respect to Cave musically but Ian didn't have to act like a dick, dis other bands, get drunk on TV or move across the world to get attention for his lame ass band, seeking fame & fortune with no songs & a shit sense of 2nd hand style. Cave & his MATE are embarrassing on all levels. Moron douchebag ass suckers...imo.
Fucking stupid hair, he's still got stupid fucking hair has Cave..........Both of em...
@rocknrolsen I think we can all agree that "Unknown Pleasures" is a masterpiece to the highest degree, but to me, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds have made 13 masterpieces. It's a shame we lost Ian Curtis so soon. Oh what could have been.
@jcjordie21 "Closer" is a great album, just because I didn't mention it I wasn't trying to insinuate that it isn't a genuine album, I just don't see it in the same light as "Unknown Pleasures." Only my opinion.
Well seeing as how Cave despised the whole Goth thing because he thought it was the refuge of pretentious poseur talentless wankers and he also hates the media and was taking the piss out of Martha Quinn Jr I'm guessing he was thinking that Joy Division was goth which they weren't but I'm sure at the time he thought they took themselves too seriously which they obviously did, not that they weren't a great band.
@sharkattacksteve Joy Division never took themselves seriously. They were just a band having fun and living their dream of making music. If you pay attention to the interviews from the band members, you'd realize that they were in fact quite simple. Joy Division was dark because Ian Curtis' state of mind that was really in a dark place, hence he killed himself. Based on this interview, Nick Cave seems to be such a douche; all pretentious and forcefully sarcastic. I hate this type of attitude.
@canuck21 The problem is one which as i see as an attitude sensibility thing. In California we had "death rock" which were bands like Cramps, Gun Club, 45 grave etc it was basically punk with a horror ethos, no one took it that seriously, it was fun.
When it made it's way to England it became "goth" which was this fey, self pitying "romantic' self tortured bullshit typified by Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy etc.
Cave is Aussie which means he's a hard ass who doesn't believe in self pity.
you kept interrupting me? he's the only voice that we should be listening to, interviewers are doorstops. nobody cares what you think. was that her who called him goth at the end? stupid whore. what does she think he's in the same pool as Skinny Puppy or that Reznor hack who rewrites Foetus lines? and he is better than whiny Joy Division. no comparison to his words Tad.
I like Nick Cave, but I LOVE Joy Division, and if Nick thinks he's better, he can eat taint. Cause honestly, He's a bt of a hack, and Joy Division was all original.
@33Thadeus I read somewhere that Cave actually thought Joy Division was doing genuine things in the music. Whether or not he liked their music, I don't know. Nick Cave is certainly not a hack, and I hope you're not basing that opinion on the notion that Nick Cave doesn't like Joy Division. I love Joy Division, but even if Cave said he thought JD was the worst band ever assembled, it still wouldn't change my opinion of Cave's music.
This again. . .I just love how Jim looks about to piss his pants, haha. I'm also pretty sure he doesn't like Joy Division, he was just mocking comparisons people like to make.
@nonnemar his name's jim thirlwell. he's released music under tons of names, but the most known stuff is under the name foetus. check out his album 'nail' if you life industrial, its a masterpiece as far as im concerned.

Ian curtis never needed such hair to proove his dark side
it's his lyrics and hauting voice that did the trick
i know nick was probably on it way before ian but
he just hasn't really caught my eye yet like thousands of other 80's bands
BUT he sounds pretty sarcastic i don't really think he hates JD or anything
probably just hates the attention on the group

Nick displaying fairly typical Australian irreverence for just about any circumstance. He's a national treasure for us.

I like Nick Cave, but no member of Joy Division ever allowed themselves to leave the house with such ridiculous hair.
