I am white. However, most of my friends growing up were black & they don't "act white." At first, I disliked the video. As I kept watching I finally understood. Most likely, she grew up in a pretty segragated community or lived in a household where this identity of "black" was constantly forced upon her. Atheism is not a group activity, it is simply choosing to not to believe in the evidence-less claim of God/Gods/Deities. It is only very recently did some atheists start to organize due to the global political climate.
If living logically is not enough for people to relate to, then why bother? It wouldn't really be about atheism if that was the case.
To be honest, I think the main reason that you don't find many "typical" black people on here that are atheists is because of our pathetic education system. Our education system is failing the black community and because of that a lot of those kids are just not well educated. One major reason for people becoming an atheist, especially on youtube, is because of education. So it's just not going to be as likely.
Religion has been used to control people of color for centuries. Just because WE DON'T KNOW where the universe originated from doesn't necessarily means it does not have a creator. When we look at anything that has a design, we rightly conclude that it has a designer. We routinely see man-made objects all around us - cars, airplanes, houses, boats, appliances, etc. And yet, no rational person would suggest that such objects were just the products of time and chance. The universe shows an incredible amount of design, which points to an incredible designer.

You can't find a lot of black atheists, because a lot of black people are not that educated. A concept like evolution sounds really complex to uneducated people. im agnostic, in that i've eaten enough mushrooms to feel like things aren't random. where i can relate to atheists is in the idea that all known religions are way off the mark and the texts works of creative fiction. but atheism is specific. its not only saying i can disprove that, but i can prove this other thing - that there is no "god". how can atheists rule out all options, the ones we would have no way of considering with the information we have? this is a real question not an argument.

It isn't that black atheist reject black culture, it's that black culture rejects black atheists. Since Christianity is one of the cornerstones of black culture, it is difficult to find common ground with those who see you as souless. Additionally, black atheists are more likely to be better educated, and thus will find themselves less comfortable hanging the the average AA, non-graduate student.
Actually, there's no "whither" thing than being christian. Black people was captured, enslaved and adoctrinated by christian people. I am an Asian, I am an Atheist, but I am not an Asian Atheist, and whether I act Asian or not have nothing to do with my Atheism.
Atheism is not a group activity, it is simply choosing to not to believe in the evidence-less claim of God/Gods/Deities. It is only very recently did some atheists start to organize due to the global political climate.

Our education system is failing the black community and because of that a lot of those kids are just not well educated. Just because WE DON'T KNOW where the universe originated from doesn't necessarily means it does not have a creator. When we look at anything that has a design, we rightly conclude that it has a designer. We routinely see man-made objects all around us - cars, airplanes, houses, boats, appliances, etc. And yet, no rational person would suggest that such objects were just the products of time and chance. The universe shows an incredible amount of design, which points to an incredible designer.

When humans don't understand the workings of a certain process, we can't tell the difference between science and magic. You can't find a lot of black atheists, because a lot of black people are not that educated. A concept like evolution sounds really complex to uneducated people. im agnostic, in that i've eaten enough mushrooms to feel like things aren't random. where i can relate to atheists is in the idea that all known religions are way off the mark and the texts works of creative fiction. but atheism is specific. its not only saying i can disprove that, but i can prove this other thing - that there is no "god". how can atheists rule out all options, the ones we would have no way of considering with the information we have? this is a real question not an argument.

We just don't. Most of atheists won't say "there is no god", rather "they don't believe there's one".
What I can say with almost 100% certainty is that if there's a god, it's not one of any scripture out there.

It isn't that black atheist reject black culture, it's that black culture rejects black atheists. Since Christianity is one of the cornerstones of black culture, it is difficult to find common ground with those who see you as souless. Additionally, black atheists are more likely to be better educated, and thus will find themselves less comfortable hanging the the average AA, non-graduate student.

Actually, there's no "whither" thing than being christian. Black people was captured, enslaved and adoctrinated by christian people. Black culture isnt something to be proud of. Rap music promoting drugs, violence, and money? Black fathers walking out on their kids? Instead of saying "black" culture we'll say "nigga" culture, which I have a strong feeling that the girl is talking about that when she says black because why would she say acting white? Then we'll say "hillbilly/trailer trash" culture instead of white culture which is more accurate to what you're talking about. Both exist in the white and black community and are a product of ignorance.

I think the girl in this video is essentially saying anyone who enunciates, wears thier pants around their waist, and doesnt listen to rap music is acting white which is like saying anyone who doesnt adhere to streotypes has forgotten their culture and is behaving like another culture, which is why I said in my first comment that her version of black culture isnt something to be proud of. In hindsight I should have been more clear :)

if you truly believe most black atheist act white then you also need to believe that ALL black christian are acting white. originally black people, or should i say africans didn't believe in christianity until they were enslaved. only after slavery and being owned by white people did blacks start worshipping the bible and christian beliefs. so if you are a believer in the christian faith you are essentially acting white because the whites are the ones that showed blacks their current beliefs.
