I have enjoyed the whole series and with each episode it does get better.
A little bit of constructive critisim though, the spock charactor originally was not a placid charactor until later in the series, then Gene allowed Spock's human emotions to show through at times to grow the freindship between Kirk and Spock. Somehow that is getting lost here.
@ RobertMfromLI: look buddy, don't get all girly-defensive. Rob, let me define my comment a lil further by saying the new Trek movie brings back the look-and-feel of the original series - the blinky lights, shiny ship, "bee-boop-bap" sound effects and day-glow colors. Don't "seriously doubt" the fact that I didn't watch TOS - I am 58 years old and I used to ask my Dad to go next door to watch it in color, because all we had was a b/w Zenith.
I love these new shows and I love this group! They are doing what the new movie could not do! They have captured the heart and spirit of Star Trek! Long live James Cawley & ST Phase II !!!!!!!!
If the lead actor would ONLY STEP ASIDE and let a real actor perform the role of Kirk this show could be something special. Instead, it's an excercise in stroking one's ego.
The latest Star Trek movie brings back the future as was envisioned back in the 1960's: the blinking tooting lights, the colorful skin-tight unforms, the shiny ship, and everything well lit - re-imagined in 2009. I'm glad we've moved on from the dark and deeply militaristic showings of the 80's movies (which were a reflection of how the 80's envisioned the future, ironically). I've been a fan of Star Trek since TOS and I like the new movie - it brings back the spirit of what TOS was.
@larrylmedina I'd say the 2009 Star Trek movie doesn't bring back any of the TOS spirit. It reminded me more to "Star Wars Episode I", which sucked as hell (as did the whole new trilogy, especially compared to the original ine). The monster chase on the ice planted even seemed to be a direct copy of the "bigger fish" thing. I almost expected to see Jar Jar Binks hopping through the screen, but even without him, that new film was hillarious and not to be taken seriously.
The spirit of TOS was not about blinky lights and flashy starships. If that's the message you got, then I seriously doubt you really watched the series. It was about hope for the future, about allegories for current events, about friendships and loyalty, about humankind finally evolving above it's prejudices and so much more along those lines.
The new Star Trek film, was made to make money, therefore it pandered to the lowest common denominator. I t was watchable, but in my opinion, it lacked the heart and soul of the original. New Voyages/Phase II is much more Star Trek than the Hollywood franchise, because the people making it "Get it". Plus, I have been and always shall be a fan of the original series.
Hey Fish, I originally took the low road with you because of your disrespectful comments. I apologize to others reading this about my foul language. I will say this, Perhaps my use of commas was off. So what? It does not give you or anyone the right to go name calling because of a difference of opinion. Where I come from that would get your ass kicked and your teeth knocked down your throat. I do not know what your problem is, but you better watch it or someday you will get schooled.
This is a great show. even the bad episode "Blood and Fire" is realy well done. I hope that it will become the new Star Trek series, and that awful move [Star Trek (2009)] is forgoten. ps. forgive my spelling my keys stick and it is to much botherr to fix it..
You mean like the new Battlestar Galactica saved the original? Or how the Dead Or Alive the movie rejuvenated the video game following? Face the facts, it killed Star Trek and replaced it with a blurry facsimile.
Then please let us know when your hour-long episode will be done. Don't forget, no budget! You're doing it for no profit, just the money you can raise. All volunteer!
@PonyHorton I agree. If you watch their first episode, you can see the vast improvements, from then to now, in all aspects of their production quality. Everything from audio to lighting, the believability of their acting, pace of editing and CGI. At first, it had the look of a home-grown production, but they have risen to a top-notch level. That's my EXPERIENCED opinion.
Stunning! Simply stunning. All the time and effort across the board that's gone into this project - I'm blown away by its professionalism and it's creativity.
I love how that bride and ever set is spot on, I would love to jus hang out on the bridge. Star Trek fans are a wondeful bunch, this is dedication. And its also fantasy for TOS fans. Its like ok what if they hadn't cancelled the show..hmm. Its as close as well get. Let me play a bad guy alien, I'll knock it out of the park for ya.
I like this fan series, I think it is very well done and an amazing labor of love! It was great to see this behind the scenes video. These folks seem very professional and talented. Thanks for sharing the video!
He casts himself because this is a labor of love and a dream he always had. He always wanted to play Kirk and now he is. all fan produced films are usually a pet project of those producing them.

Go to my channel and see "Star Trek 2009 part 1", to see my point. I had to speed it up slightly to avoid copyright infringement but it is intact.

Actually, James is not a bad actor at all. And he's a very nice person as well. And the other actors are getting better with each episode.
