Keeping a conversation flowing; How to avoid those awkward silences

Here's my problem, I'm a perfectionist and an OPTIMIST as in OPTIMIZING EVERYTHING. I don't want to tell someone they look nice because there is no purpose to it. I don't want to stare at someone's eyes because it's realllllly creepy. I don't want to dress with a set style because it looks obnoxious and puts me into a niche. Confidence is nothing more than ignorance.

All I saw from this person was an uneducated, obnoxious, ignorant, and creepy woman. Thanks for trying to help though.

@GabbyHeartsYou112 Gabby it's okay to be nervous. Just take it easy on yourself until you feel comfortable around the person. If you are out on a date or whatever the situation is. I always try to go on dates in a laid back environment. Everyone is different. Not everybody can just open up like that. So just relax & take it easy on yourself and don't think about nonsense. try to keep your mind busy and listen closely to what the ppl are saying and feeling. U will see this is easier :D

Awkward silences are only awkward if you let them be. If the conversation runs out I usually don't sweat it, if you're comfortable there's nothing awkward about sitting quietly.

I've been a salesman though so I'm a bit used to silences, they are super effective if you are closing a sale. By saying nothing the other guy is put on the spot and has to make a decision and it's often in my favor.

The best advice for you is to be yourself, but to speak their language, too. In other words, don't change who you in expectations of being accepted by the person, but look at how they're speaking, what they're talking about. In this way, you can be yourself, say what you want, yet in a way that won't lead to awkward silences. People don't like posers, but people who can adapt to any conversation while being themselves. Remember, you speak a different "language" with every person.
