do what our forefathers did- find a whole gang of people who feel the same that youd do, rebel against your government, make a new government and put the right to bear arms shall not be infringed in your new government's constitution....simple. Governmental authority only extends to how far the people are willing to recognize or give it anyway :) Let us know how it goes :)
Instead of a second sleeping bag (do you need -40F ?) maybe a sleeping bag liner. Heavier ones add up to 25F to the bag and weigh very little and cost less. And MayDay rations are a better quality and last 5 years too. Bic lighters are the way to go but what about zippo? You can refill them and butane is easy to find.
i was raised hunting and trapping so in my bug out i have a henry survival rifle. if you have to u can use to protect yourself. In the long run your saving weight if you can catch/kill your own food than carrying pre-made meals with you, which will run out over time. Also u can carry more small caliber rounds than pistol rounds and save weight.
I wish ppl would mention possible hunting purposes with having a firearm in their videos... I know I would try to pop a deer or something if I was hungry... instead of eating mre's and such.
Plan for the 1/3 Failure Factor. In battle or a disaster scenario 1/3 of your gear will inevitably get lost, malfunction, fail, or spoil. That's why redundancies are so important.
What are these BoB for? I can think of a few things like home invasion (wouldnt need the shelter),your town being under siege (would need all the stuff to go into hiding, but what are the chance that will happen),and camping, but everything would be tough to carry all at once.
Hey man i really like your video. everything seems rational and well thought out (unlike a few other videos ive seen) thanks so much and im checking out your website
My question is, where do you 'bug out' people plan on bugging out to? I can tell you if things get so bad people start leaving the cities, people in rural areas (like myself) will NOT be rolling out the welcome carpet for you.
@RobinEH94 Well that particular brand of pistol has a lock option that can be installed that prevents the trigger from engaging or the weapon being dissassembled. There are also seperate locks that go over the trigger itself, gunsafes, keeping the ammunition locked in a seperate container, that's four levels of security right there. Like all tools firearms have to be treated with respect and responsibility. Unfortunately some people don't practice this
I like how you dont have all of the unnecessary junk items and travel light and fast. You have the basic items you will need to survive and the hunting backpack is a great idea.
There are a couple things I would change for my own intensive purposes. I would change the shelter from a poncho to a tarp i'm going with a kifaru superhootch I know it is a good piece of money but survival means allot more than just a couple hundred. i'm also going with a parastove from kifaru. it's small and packable and provides good heat. you can get theinside of that tarp tent up to 75 or 80 degrees without big down filled bags leaving you more room to carry more important things.
Oh god did he really just say he was planning on putting a bag INSIDE of another one? Just because there is two bags doesn't mean you double the heat, and now you have to carry another bag...have fun with that.
i say you should at least have 5 magazines minimum for your pistol just in case you happen of find yourself in a prolonged encounter i got a .22 pistol myself but i am looking to getting a 9mm to go with it.
the most critical is WATER, not shelter. do yourself a favor. fill up that little bottle you got and walk around your neighborhood one afternoon. after you see how fast you burn through it, you'll be switching up the contents of that bag, real quick
if you smush one kelty into the other, you're going to lose loft, which is why down keeps you so warm. You can get a mylar emergency blanket inside that and get better results, but no way is packing one bag inside the other going to get you down to -40F
the first works by insulating and reflecting body heat from you ie if your freezing then you may not get any warmer (thats why there cold when you first get in to them)..the second will have No heat to make it work so is a waste of space and you should get a bag which is desinged to operate at sub zero. Some army ones work even when wet.
40 cal versus 9mm, it's all an opinion when it comes to choosing calibers, I personally would take the 9mm, the ammunition is much cheaper, which means I can practice with my weapon more. Practice makes perfect, the more familiar you are with your weapon and get good practice in, the better shooter you will become. Which eliminates needing major take down power like with the 40 or even 45 calibers. Become a good shot and you won't need that much take down. Also another point to look at with the
9mm used to cost half as much as the .40, but the marketplace has changed a lot. Nothing beats the price of the Russian steel rifle ammo like Wolf/Brown Bear or Tula(WalMart brand), but many won't touch it for their AR systems. Get a good trigger-hammer combo like the Geissele Combat Trigger, and it will reliably and consistently set off any hard primer, military primers, even the Russian Berdan primers of 5.45 / 7.62x39. Quick-swap .223 with other calibered uppers and never have ammo shortage.
Having camped int the snow for more than a couple days at a time, I really think a good tent / bivy and a good insulating pad that is waterproof to sleep on are way more important than using two sleeping bags!!
-50Degrees? Are you bugging out to outer space? I like the gerber fixed blade, have one myself, cant beat it for the money. Nice start on a BOB, simple and effective. Keep evolving it man, hope you never has to use it.
Like the vid but..... Where are your lighting capabilities? You're gonna want to be able to see at night either for moving as night time is the safest time to move or to identify friend or foes.
Sorry, two other things. Glock is a good choice, but switch out ammo for hollow points. If you are going to limit your ammo, then have ammo that makes every shot count. Secondly, the fire starter is the way to go. Add in some cotton balls covered in vaseline, and you will have a basic fire that will burn for about 10 minutes and will get a good burn started for your fire.
@legaleagle123 Hollow points are great if you don’t need penetration however in an emergency you might have to engage a target in a vehicle or behind concealment. FMJ is still lethal and better all purpose. Wouldn’t hurt to have some hydro shock or similar. But for the weight FMJ would be my start. However, I would throw an extra hundred rounds in my bag as well. Ammo will be worth more than gold and may have more uses then fighting.
@axe609 I don't know exactly what type of targets you are planning on engaging. For someone with a minimalist approach, such as this author, I was making a simple suggestion. He is only packing 30 rounds. You may have a different situation with a different approach. I clearly have a different set of plans and have chosen a different means of armament.
You over estimate the ability to simply add another down sleeping bag and a poncho to get to -50F. You will freeze to death. Secondly, down is warm, but once wet it has no insulating ability. You need something to really protect the down like a gortex cover... Not being critical, just sharing advise from someone who lives in a "cold weather" state.
@legaleagle123 I agree about keeping down dry and adding a poncho probably only adds another 10 degrees of protection. While not shown in this video I have a Gortex bivy that would go over both down sleeping bags (but left it). -50 might be unattainable with two 20 degree bags and a gortex bivy but 0 or -20 degrees is probably within range ( I've done -10 with a 0 degree down bag, with a down coat zipped up and pulled over feet, with the poncho cover the top and I was quite warm).
@HowToToCom if you want a good bag just go to the supply store ang get the new issue 3 part sleeping system. rated for -30 and it keeps you warm. i was stationed in Alaska and it worked out in the field.
@WildLifeGuy308 Many people like the larger calibers but I chose the 9mm for availability if shortages were ever an issue (since it's a very common caliber). Cost and weight are the other issues. I'll shoot my 9mm more because it costs half as much to shoot than the .40 or .45.
@WildLifeGuy308 To make it simple, .40cal is a better people stopper than 9mm so its the best gun for daily self defense. The 9mm however is the better BoB choice because like HowtoCom said its ammo is everyplace and cheaper to buy.
@WildLifeGuy308 .40 See 9mm is a good defense against human attackers, in the wild though you would need extra bang without adding too much weight. To me even though I absolutely love my firearms, a good machete and a good strong knife is critical for surviving. In my pack I carry a S&W40 and a Gerber Gator machete and a Operation Iraqi Freedom knife. Those 3 will be effective in most situations.
@mandienpete08 I have the basic same tools for the same reasons. Sig .40, gerber gator and a bundeswehr fighting knife. Good choices along with many other things of course.
you said that you could heat water in your stanless steel canten. I thouth that were lined with a thin coating to keep you water from geting a funny teast? O safety note. QUIK CLOT is a burns the wond close. by reacting with the water in the blood. I short if the wind is blowing and it geting in your mouth or nose you are in i world of hurt. that is why the US ARMY stop using it.
Not a nice bag but one that's going to take a beating. Cause going threw woods your pack can get caught on branches and shit and then you'll be fucked. Great vid
Good video, I like how you plan to use your gear in multiple ways. This saves bulk and weight and gives you more options. I am sooo envy american people, they can have gun for personal defense. in the country i live in, maybe i would carry only kitchen knife. :(
