  • HOW COOL WERE DID IT GO WRONG

  • Л, Ю, Ф, И, Г - what are the Russian letters doing on the wall?

  • i was at this show at time we thought she sucked big time and couldn't sing but she gave it 120 % which what Howie's show were all about.. she was all ways rude and smelled like she need a bath

  • WOW!!!

  • This show was amazing! I miss Howie, he was such a mice guy. Bauhaus here was even better w Bowie in the audience.

  • This is sooooo NEW YORK, I FUCKING LOVE IT and of course I love Madonna

  • thanks for that!!!!

  • Was the gig where she is supporting ACR?

  • WOW, very cool, great stage presence even in the beginning. Backup dancers though...jajajjjajajajjaja! Ok, ok... maybe they were spastic on purpose, to match the geeky clothes???

  • she is just great!!!

  • I love this. It's so simple and lo-budget, even for the 80s but it's sooo good.

  • 'Music makes the world go 'round

You can turn your troubles upside down'

Thats all we need in life!

  • somebody answer.. don't this sound like newwavish????

  • @GoriddleGorilla : Yes, at the time punk rock was ending, the English new wave sound had started. Synthesizers were being used in every genre of music and as usual pop music is and will always be a generic reflection of the times it is emulating. Pop art.

  • @GoriddleGorilla

of course it does, its madonna in 1982. at the time she was really into freestyle, a year before blondie had released rapture. to me there's no NYC new wave without hiphop

  • Wow. I remember this performance. She's singing live her btw.

  • she has everything except for the voice...

  • noway that is madonna.

  • hahaha great she is cute

  • The comments are funny. Like people really miss this. But I'm SO SORRY I was exposed to this crap when I was a kid, lol. What drivel. Those droning Manhattan nights.

  • Yes shes an Icon with out a doubt

  • stefanybody - must be seeking attention. the only one i c hatin is y-o-u.

  • Thanks! Great that you got this on video! Amazing!

  • great time's! grande Madonna :-)

  • great time's grande MADONNA

  • Did you notice how at the begining the crowed was "asleep", but by the end of the song Madonna had them wraped around her finger?

And all it took was a couple of chairs, a few hats, suits, bad lighting and Madonna's ear-candy voice of course...

  • Madonna should write a book called "the real bible". This is the only religion I need in my life. A---MAZING.

  • awesome i love this. im 15 and i am in love with madonna xD xo.

  • miss you Howie

  • Nice work!!I miss that club so muchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • 3:48 I think whoever filmed it was more interested in the boys in shorts lol

Great performance, she does her thing very well.

  • this is good' Raw footage early = Madonna had good control of her voice and nice range......Bonafide! = thanks for posting .... mhinsda

  • Madonna there's none higher! The best, and thank for the video. xo

  • amazing!

  • Work, Madonna!!!! I will say, I'm glad you no longer do your choreography yourself! You will always rule the world...:)

  • She didn't need those backup dancers.

    They SUCK!

  • Nice!! Thanks for the upload..really surprised to see the decoration at Danceteria with those Slavic letters :)

  • madonna was ready taken on the world back in the day an she did.the only diva to me

  • madonna's voice isnt that great. cindi lauper was a better singer.

  • @metal1313 this is indisputable but we're slightly missing the point here..

  • this looks like it was filmed for public acces

  • madonna sucks now, sure she never had talent, but her songs were atleast good in the 80's.

  • @KiittyCupcake "never had talent" my ass. You don't stay on top of an industry that changes this much without talent. She is a creative visionary with an actual message in most of her music. More female artists today site her as an inspiration to get into the music business than any other artist period. You don't stay influential for this long for simply being controversial.

  • @MrBurritoSupreme

I had a connection to Nile Rodgers through family at the time and he was producing "Like A Virgin". Said she was an awful singer... She was one of the earliest users of the machine that adjusts the octave of your voice so they can fix your off key notes. She did however have her fingers on the pulse of what was hot and could assimilate what everyone was inventing around her into her act. What her real talent was ,was seeing trends as they were being born and exporting them.

  • Amazing !! Tamryn, how did u get your hands on this ? This is a rare jem. Madonna sounds great. Danceteria seemed to be the place to be in the '80's ;)

  • Loved the place! Saw Snakefinger, Flipper, Indoor Life and so many others there! That cryptic freight elevator, dark stairs, Afrika Bam's kid spinning on the astro turf roof, the Beastie Boys or Joey Ramone hanging, wild style film premiere, the tv/video lounge....those were the DAZE. Jeez, I still have some flyers!

  • Great times!

  • i wonder what she would say now, if she saw this video. Madonna rules

  • I visit the Danceteria in May 1981

  • I was only 1 year old when this happened!

  • I remember this well. No Entiendes at Danceteria. Was working that night. God what a bitch!

  • isnt one of them her brother

  • you mean christopher? i bet he is....

  • Like she said many years ago that she wanted to conquer the world and she did!!!!! Amazing!!! MADONNA!!!

  • love the reverb crazyness at 3:20

  • Better here than she is now! Incredible natural star. She just has that x factor

  • Bless Her :) <3

They Are Some Ammature Dancers :) Lol!!!

Would Look Better With The Dancers Wearing Trousers. Skinny Legs Don't Suit Men.

    M Is Doing Fab Though!

  • live vocals...she sounds good!

  • Hey it is her! Cool!

  • Oh that 80s vibe madonna was great dancer but wasnt the best singer and couldve been passed over by many other talents out there but had an energy about her that was confident and hypnotic some peopel just have it and she did i feel inlove with her in the eighties .

  • awesome!

  • Esto es una muestra de que se puede llegar hasta donde uno quiera. solo basta proponerselo

  • gorgeous!

  • I was in grade 2.

  • what is the name of this club or theater?

  • Madonna forever! She keeps entertaining, I like her attitude and strenght. Neverending!

  • This is why she's a billionaire!

  • He said: Madonna!! people said: good ok... who could have imagine that one day she will be such famous!

  • I was there.

  • cool stuff.....I wish I was.....did you meet Madonna? What was the buzz around the club?

  • no u werent

  • me too

  • what a great talent....not. As Howie says... "mediocre...not exactly James Brown...." Madonna's one talent was believing in herself in spite of any reason to.

  • what are you talking about? :D he said the crowd was mediocre :D

  • this is amazing...

  • A true testament that no matter where u come from, or who u r, as long as u love yourself, believe in yourself, stay determined, live your life to the fullest & happiest, stay away from drugs & hazardous people, keeping the right people in your corner, looking good, eating right & selling every drop of sensuous sexuality u have to the camera & your audience that all that are the ingredients that will catapult u to ultimate fame, happiness, love & continued success, gotta LOVE Madonna L. Ciccone.

  • wow .. this is amazing ..

  • The Dancetaeria really was the greatest of the clubs back then. And there was some real competition: Mudd Club, Area, Garage, The World. I hung out there nealry every night between 1983 & 86 when it closed. The real estate boom put an end to it ( and many other big dance venues). What memories.

  • yeh her voice sounds wicked here!! this is such a good performance for a first time, she is amazing. u cant get better than Madonna!!!!! :)

  • Could someone put in words what the guy say in the beggining and in the end of this performance... please?

    Thanks in advance.

  • That guy in the beginning is Howie Montague. I know him fairly well. He claimed he discovered Madonna. I used to work at the Palladium in 1985 and a friend worked at Danceteria who used to let me in free. Danceteria was the greatest club in the early to mid 1980's.

  • really? what happened to danceteria right now? and i wonder what happened these back up dancers, where are they now? got rich too? lol

  • if you know howie you would know that he passed away a looong time away and he might well have helped her on to her career. but she was always her own man and mark kamins and jelly bean benitez are probably more responsible for putting her out there.

  • lets not get crazy now ( danceteria the best club in the 80s) it was ok, matter of facy some nites were real cool...

but i think "funhouse, roxy ( 1018), octogan, tunnel was much better

  • When I was in Highschool I think the tunnel peaked, I never made it there. then when I graduated I swung by there and seemed wack as hell! So we started to go to the SFactory, that place was on fire! But fizzled out like 2000 if I recall. Heard carbon also was good when I was in HighSchool.

  • This is awesome! No one can ever compare to Madonna! She had that special something, that mesmerized everyone; and she still does today!

  • michael jackson can compare to madonna

  • WOW! If they only knew then what we know now!!!!

    Madonna kicks ass!!!!!!!

  • EXACTLY:)))

  • WHEN IT WAS?

  • Back when people actually played *live*.

  • I'm not even a madonna fan, but what a great entertainer. No idea how she makes this interesting for 6 minutes straight

  • haha, that's great. a lot hasn't changed in the last 20 years....

  • make it 30...

  • Only the greatest club in history. Long live the Danceteria.

  • old skewl

  • whats that song ??

  • Everybody

  • everybody

  • The beginning of a legend.

  • Wow, I thought that Amy Winehouse kind of created that groove in the background singers. Madonna was clearly the inspiration!

  • fucking amazing..this woman was made to be a star...i'm so glad i was here in this lifetime to enjoy her...thx madonna for being you.....nate

  • @nateboytwo oh please, its so funny how shes considered a genius just for soing wat drag queens been doing for centurys. when drag queens do it prejudice people hate on it. wen madonna steals there ideas shes considered a genius. fuckin ridiculos double standard, this world is so hypocritical. the gay community created madonna and gave her all her ideas dum dum, shes just a puppet. !!!

  • Is that Martin Burgoyne at the beginning?

  • Who are all these critics? Just take the video for what it is. An awesome vintage piece of music history. I am not a fan of Madonna but if any of you can market yourselves and set trends (in this country) for almost 3 decades the way she has go ahead and prove it to me.... Jack asses!

  • Nicely Said djgilley! :)

  • wow is amazing video madonna ever fantastic

  • I love her voice. Danceteria was one of my favorite clubs

  • SHE'S LEGEND! The best so far...no one will ever be like her

  • fantastic video, thanks for the upload, little did they know at the time...

  • Fucking awesome. She's always been very unique. I love her.

  • Dancing? Get real, this is the same aerobics I see at the gym with some housewife teaching it. Honestly, I'll be able to do this in my 50s. 1 2 3 step, 1 2 3 step, spin 2 3 step, etc...

  • Really, did you study dance at the University of Michigan? Did you attened Christopher Flynn's ballet school for many years? Did you study modern dance? I very highly doubt it.

  • always underestimated as a dancer/choreographer. and how downright cute she was back then in her new tomboy phase

  • wish I knew what she herself thinks of this :-)

  • Shows she a much better singer than she's given credit for (especially back then). Singing and dancing with no overdubs. Compare this with that the AshSimp's SNL malfunction.

  • Wow, that's setting the bar pretty low! Besides, in the 80's there were allegations that her voice was enhanced, sped up, etc. in the studio. The live show makes it clear how limited her voice is, but she's a performer more than a singer, so that's fine.

  • fantastique!!!

  • amazing. she is spot on with this.

  • Wow, never saw this clip before, it's great!

  • Nuussssaaaaa! Madonna bem no começo! A voz tá massa!

  • Dude this is way cool little did the audience know that madonna would go on to be a pop princess and be set for life etc! this is very cool because they audience is kinda like ho hum which shows how real this really is omg!

  • So great that there's a copy of this around. Love her or not, you have to admit that after 25 years, she's got staying power.
