  • Wow, I thought Russ was serious through this. He put on a good game face. I tip my hat to both of them.

I wish Colbert had been truly serious. He'd be better than Obama, in my eyes.

  • Colbert I tip my hat to you my fellow mate!

    Canada ALL-DAY EVERYDAY!

  • Colbert is being so in character that some people can't see it!

  • Ha! His eyebrows....

  • guys....the person who posted this clip trolled you all before trolling was even mainstream.

  • you call yourself a colbert fan you definitely don't get what his doin here, he does things to make your narrow head to think... have you ever heard the word "why"? like why does he said such things, or why does he do such things? u figure it out on ur own since you call yourself a fan...

  • 1:56-2:00 He drops character. You can hear his voice drop down.

  • Also, it's so sad to see Tim Russert. I miss him incredibly.

  • Bombed? Just because the audience wasn't happy (an indication of how close to the truth Colbert comes), doesn't mean he wasn't brilliant. After watching the most recent WHCD, and the great response by the audience, it's clear this one was very repressed. Whatever. Every once in a while, when I need a good laugh, I watch this. Testicular fortitude!

  • Absolutely brilliant on both their parts.

Glancing through the comments, an alarming number of people (including the original poster...) don't seem to realize that BOTH Russ and Colbert were having some fun here.

    That really, really concerns me.

    (RIP Russ)

  • @ayslin218 How would anyone not know Russ was kidding when he pulled out the Bert doll??? LOLOLOL!!!!

  • Change the name of this, he didn't bomb at all.

  • Hey, I talked to "many of Colbert's biggest fans" and we all agreed that we're not let down. The interview was awesome on both Colbert's and Russert's parts.

  • I hate it when people don't get how brilliant Colbert is...

  • ColBEAR is an troll! Do thye not get it?

  • Tim Russet got fooled. Colbert is brilliant

  • @nikokiko47 No, Tim Russet played along and made it funnier.

  • Ummmm didn't anyone tell Tim Russert that Colbert has been JOKING about being conservative all these years? wowzers

  • colbertfan2008 bombs on youtube - .....

  • He didn't bomb at all. If you think he did, you didn't get it.

  • the interviewer: but you just said you're a Nixonian "

Colbert: "Again, If you say so. I don't even listen to what I say"

interviewer rests on his reputation so much, he'd be shocked to learn the true meaning of the word "objective". with all do-respect.

  • he's healthy provocator.

  • lol. colbert is manipulating the interviewer so much, that he cant keep up. lol.

  • I don't think he bombed at all - he had control.

  • The title for the video is brilliant, it will drag in many a neo-con'voluted mind for a light youtube style debunking.

  • I'd say that if you think colbert bombed then you need your humor spoonfed to you

  • bobbyschu eluded to a tongue in cheek question I wanted to ask as an Aussie who's knowledge of the late Mr Russert''s work is rather limited. Did he ever play the straightman on sketch comedy shows prior to his work on Meet The Press? Because he was bloody good at it.

  • Fucking awesome I love colbert!!!!

  • This is bombing? He was awsome. Russert was even better. Its hard to play staightman in a skit...............and thats what this was, a skit.

  • Comment removed

  • I don't understand, Bombed. You Kidder.

  • What did Russert say after Colbert asked him if he could ask for money in his show, at the end?

  • @klasomentas "do you have an 800 number you want us to give out?"

    "i have a website?"

"i'm not going to do that"

  • @Badgered thanks.

  • I thought he did great.

    Funny man.

  • Wow - I love Colbert and think he's witty and very funny - but this whole thing was a little childish for me to watch.

  • Haha hilarious. Colbert is my hero. If you think he bombed here then you probably think he bombed at Bush's White House Correspondent's dinner as well (one of the funniest things I've ever seen) and you clearly don't understand a word he's saying.

  • So what? Colbert is still smart and sexy...two things I like in a man :)

  • Colbert played you guys like a cello

  • i sincerely enjoyed this interview. colbert is today's charlie chaplin but instead of poking fun at industrialism hes directing it towards republicans

  • Lol, there seems to be a lot of trolls on here trying to trick people into thinking this was real....

for all those retarded that got trolled, here's your vaccine, enjoy

    /watch?v=DNvJZCFpdp8

  • Channel owner is wrong. Your jus butthurt cause Russert controlled the pace of the interview.

    This is hilarious!

  • not a bomb at all

  • The sad thing is that Colbert was invited to the White House Correspondent Dinner and those people did NOT appear to be in on the joke. Meaning that the leaders of our country, and those in the Bush administration that invited Colbert in the first place, couldn't figure out that Stephen Colbert was an act, but we believed that they could lead us victorious through 2 wars. Maybe the joke is on the American people.

  • @bobolob i think they knew it was an act and that speech more or less always is a roast poking fun at the president, but i guess they didn't think that colbert would pull out the really big guns and obliterate the administration. and i think colbert deserves recognition for this. he had the chance to directly address the representatives of the media and spoke his mind. And although his persona always is satirical it'soften too vague but at the dinner his message and stand were clear...

  • @Conversed I guess I can agree with that. But he really destroyed everyone that night. And Bush didn't look too happy, or maybe he didn't understand what was going on.

  • Props to Russert for his RL troll of a lot of people.

  • again, brilliant work

  • this was definitely not a bomb. colbert was obviously playing in character at moments. this was set up and rehearsed.

  • What's great is that a lot of posters seem to think Russert wasn't in on it. He was. He played his role PERFECTLY (as did Colbert).

    Great job.

  • OK. Something tells me I've been kinda Tim-roll'd here. :) I'm not seeing a bomb. Maybe a certain Fan just wants lots of folks to see both these vids. Or I'm just being paranoid. Can't tell yet. Great stuff, though. :)

  • lol he didnt bomb, he ran this jerk around in circles lol. good job, stephen

  • @ocerg1111 Wrong. Correct that he didn't bomb. But he wasn't running anyone around in circles. They were both in on the joke.

  • @ocerg1111 Way to speak so kindly of the dead. You're obviously not that bright if you believe Tim Russert didn't know Stephen Colbert is just a character. I pity your ignorance.

  • This was Perfect he had no intentions of winning any elections, he intended to parody the conservative politicians in their home.

  • I guess if there isn't an audience laughing at Colbert's jokes, ColbertFan2008 doesn't know when to laugh.

  • @joncollie1 hes diehard fan tbh.. you could consider the title satire.

  • wheres the bomb?

  • Yeah, the OP kinda self-parodied by not getting that the whole thing was done tongue-in-cheekly. They were both in on the joke, and it was a joint comedy routine. "ColbertFan2008", huh? Kinda sad you don't get it. :-|

  • One of the most talented comedians of our time. Thinking of something funny to say as a character is really reallly hard. Russert played along nicely too.

  • colbert never bombs

  • If you think he bombed, you're crazy.

Also, Nixon was absolutely a very good president. There's a reason he would've been re-elected even if he hadn't tried to rig the election. Don't write him off as a politician because he made one bone-headed move.

  • This is total satire. Anyone who thinks this is a bomb is an idiot, he's only human after all... not a god. Get over yourselves.

  • Colbert and Russert masterfully conduct an interview while seeming serious. Apparently, confusing the idiot who posted this video. Neither bombed and they gave us a quality discussion.

  • Colbert did not bomb. Whoever posted this is a moron. Russert and Colbert played off each other very well. If you do not see how these two produced a wonderful interview together, you're probably a republican. Or an idiot. But I repeat myself...

  • Colbert did not bomb. Whoever posted this is a moron. Russert and Colbert played off each other very well. If you do not see how these two produced a wonderful interview together, you're probably a republican. Or an idiot. But I repeat myself...

  • He's a slippery fish. I wouldn't call this a bomb. I'd call this a Stephen making the best out of this interview where Tim Russert is trying very hard to be unfunny and professional. It can be hard to make the distinction between reality and his reality, and to determine if he makes that distinction, too. One of the great comedians of our time.

  • I dont even listen to what I say!!!!!

  • It occurs to me that Colbert finds it very difficult to try and speak without sarcasm, pretending or some subtext of a joke. Amazing. It reminds me of something Stewart said about needing to have the laughter. Now at least Stewart tried seriousness on Crossfire but if Carlson were savvy he would have asked "You are joking right?" when Stewart said "You are hurting us." Yes, Colbert bombed because he couldn't get Russert to laugh. Russert was the perfect antidote.

  • "I don't even listen to what I say."

  • I dont see how hes bombing at all. I think colbert is not only a comedic genius, but a political one as well. He makse a mockery of obvious corrupt government we live under. Research 9/11 if you dont believe that.

  • In no way did he bomb...but he DEFINITELY got shook up and uncomfortable when Tim started spewing quotes from out of Colberts book, but then Colbert gained his composure after. Pretty uninteresting interview really, Colbert and O' Reilly on the otherhand was amazing

  • classic...hilarity!!

  • 'again, if you say so, i dont even listen to what i say' hilarious

  • Dear ColbertFan2008. WHat a stupid title you gave this video. Colbert was brilliant here.

  • @Trex100 because ColbertFan2008 isan idiot and doesn't realize that Russert isplaying along. They both are, theyre both trying to make it look serious.

  • lol i watch my show to get a pulse for the nation!! I like Grey's Anatomy, thats a pretty good show:P

  • just because there isnt a studio audience laughing at everything doesnt make it not funny..

  • Funny as hell....Can't stop laughing I'm still trying to figure how he bombed...

  • he didn't bomb. change the description you fuck

  • Colbert doesn't bomb

  • He didn't bomb.

  • @ColbertFan2008

    You're a dumbass.

  • I dont care what anyone thinks this is funny shit

  • Russert tries to hardball Colbert, but he never backs down..funny stuff.

  • I thought that was hilarious. And you could tell Mr. Russert was trying not to laugh at many points himself.

  • I've to assume this title is to attract more viewers. All throughout the whole interview Colbert was his usual sarcastically funny self.

  • not even close to bomb...

  • i dont understand how he "bombed"??? I think this video needs a new title.

  • Oh Snap!!

"If I Can Do It - So Can YOU!" ~S. Colbert

  • They both did a great job. I loved the serious interrogation and Colbert's serious replies. It was golden.

  • can you say "straight man?" Most of that intereaction, if not all of it, was clearly scripted.

  • Wait, where was the "Slapstick" humor? I didn't think he bombed it at all...

  • I don't think he bombed at all. "Meet the Press" is a tough crowd. I think they both walked the fine line of appearing serious at the same time as being satirical.

  • Both played their parts well.

Russert doesn't usually bring dolls into interviews and question name pronunciation. (part 1)

  • Actually Tim Russert did a job very well!! This is an interview he would give a normal Presidential Candidate!! He has the sense of humor to take "Stephen Colbert" seriously as a candidate!! :)

  • This was well played.

  • Again, he's following his "character". If you knew Stephen Colbert's "characters", he is just himself, the only difference is that Mr. Russert is forced by NBC to be a cold lifeless rock! This was very funny to me and Colbert was not at all "bombed"

  • Colbert was very reserved in this interview. Shows you how powerful the media is. I'm sure theirs a very good reason why he wasn't acting like his usual self..

  • they're both being sarcastic. calm down folks.

  • Tim Russert needs to gain a fcking IQ.

  • umm... tim russert was playing along. It parodies a bill o reilly/ colbert interview

  • @steelersman42

    1. He was in on the joke. There's a clip called Stephen Colbert Out of Character that shows him talking to Russert where they act friendly and discuss the Colbert character.

    2. Once you're dead, your I.Q. declines. He will not be getting smarter.

  • I'm from the UK and I don't know this show. I'm wondering if the interviewer is playing it straight but really knows Colbert is sending him up.

It is very clever and funny satire.

  • Of course he is!

  • meet the press can burn in hell , he will never be better then colbert

  • Definitely a satirical attempt at being humorous without losing monetary forward gains.

  • Bombs?! That was sublime! Russert disappointed me in how humorless he was, Colbert never breaks character (ok, 1 chuckle). Thanks for posting, but dude, watch it again. *I am stoned*.

  • He is more in character in Part 1, & more out of character in Part 2.

  • @LilRobBoiii or Nixonoid.

  • i prefer Nixon - ish. priceless.

  • @nburnham2 or Nixonoid!

  • no come on! he is not on character! prove it to me!

meet the press doesn't go about interviewing "characters" like Ali G and Borat. Colbert is not playing as character Colbert! if russert laughs, it must be because he realizes colbert's sarcasm but they are not collaborating to create a comedic entertainment here.

to those who think russert is a good sport playing along, prove it. i think it's just plain denial of the obvious horrible outcome of a pretentious interviewer and smart interviewee.

  • @matthewpng He pulled out a Bert doll. Had be ever pulled out a Sesame Street character before? Grilled someone on name pronunciation? Acted like growing their hair long is a crime? Then there's the clip of them together, acting friendly, and talking about the Colbert character and the show writers.

  • yea this is kinda uncomfortable at the end. i liked how colbert was countering serious questions w/bullshit. like "my lawyer is telling me i cant say anymore" idk i liked it, kinda drunk tho

  • i don't see how russert is actually playing the satire? is it because i don't ever watch russert's show so it isn't as obvious to me, as compared to colbert's?

if there were both knowingly playing together, then it's a strange way for the interview to end, without smiles and "nice partnering, buddy!". and, colbert's not even playing as his "colbert report character" so it wouldn't make sense to say both people are just playing their typical TV roles.

  • If Colbert does bomb, it's because Russert would never let someone like Colber(silent t) get off easy in his own show. I know i just confused all the people who doesn't get Colbert, but if you don't get this, than you're probably the ones who watch Simpsons only to see Homer choke Bart.

  • @concerto404 Nice!

  • God bless/God rest Colbert/Russert.

  • ... eh... Russert laughed a few times he's in on it.

  • "If I can do it. So can you." haha.

  • XD This crap is hillarious!

Can I ask for money from your people? ...I have a website...

    XDXDXDXD

  • Why can't people just realize they are both in character and are joking with each other the entire time! Lol

  • @evlmnkybtr here it's difficult!! I realized that they were playing after 5 mins. the first few scared the crap out of me!!!

  • It's all good, people seem to lose their sense of humor when politics are involved, though.

  • i think russert and colbert were just over estimating americas capacity for humor

this may have been a little advanced for most people

  • He didn't bomb at all, idiot.

  • russert is in on it. they are both in on it. you realize colbert is playing his character and russert is playing along.

  • its easier to see in part 1 but russert is fighting the urge to laugh the whole time. effin hilarious

  • @obscuregardener Yeah you can defiantly see it.

  • colbertfan2008, i must agree with everyone else. do you need canned laughter to understand the humor here? they both are fantastic. but thanks for putting it out

  • If that is Colbert bombing his fans have a pretty high threshhold. He's hilarious throughtout.

  • yea i dont think russert understands what satire is

  • Russert was a brilliant man and he was playing along for the comedy

  • Hmm I don't see what everyone else sees when talking about Tim Russert. Russert was enjoying Colbert's humor for most of the interview. Tim Russert always played things pretty straight, so no one should be suprised if Colbert lands a joke and Russert doesn't start slapping his knee. This hardly qualifies as a "bomb."

  • @pret0n i like it how in the beginning of the interview Colbert was himself and then he switched >>>> love that guy

  • I see what happened here. Tim Russert has a system of making you feel like you are wrong before he asks his next question and he just keeps pressing them in a depressing tone, really lowers the mood and belittles the person being interviewed. Tim Russert is an asshole.

  • The only bombing that happened here was Tim Russert refusing to give out Colberts website. I feel sorry for people that can't see the humur in this.

  • haha at 2:00 he nearly laughs, fuckin hilarious!!!!!

  • russert wasnt either u idiot lol

  • Tim Russert is playing the serious part!

    the key word people (PLAYING)

    this is halarious!

  • tim knows, stephen knows. It's funny.

  • this is just proof of A) how stupid and gullible the fox news audience is/tom russert is and B) even Colbert's fans don't know what to believe, because he's so subtly simply Making Fun Of Politics.

He's just playing Colbert. I'm so surprised that so many people can't see that he's just making fun of the whole thing.

  • of course russert was in control of the interview, he is asking the questions. i thought stephen was very polite and let the russert guy attempt, and fail, to make him look like an idiot. i hope you are joking when you say stephen bombed, i really didnt see it that way

  • Poor Russert......

If he was in on the joke, he played it off with a great show.

    LONG LIVE COLBERT!!!!!

  • BOMBS? He is on meet the Press getting Russert to Play straight man for him. Very tongue-in-cheek.

  • colbert did not bomb... his jokes and satire was wasted on russet because he has no sense of humor. if their was an audience there they'd be laughing their ass off... and his book is satirical and not to be taken litteraly, the interveiwer is a moron

-----Check out the colbert's full 2006 speech at the republic convention (or what ever convention that was)... Priceless - i cant believe they let him talk!

  • I think the interview lost its pizazz due to the fact that Colbert has very dry humor, and Russert has a very dry interview style. it would have worked if Russert had played along.

  • and he didnt get on the ballot? right.

  • Tim Russet is a complete idiot. SATIRE, you half-wit jerk, SATIRE! I can't believe ignorant americans gave this moron a career, and I think it should be seen as an adiquite mirror for those sad few.

  • I amamazed at how many people just don't get this. THIS IS SATIRE. Both Colbert and Russert are in on the joke. Wake up folks!

  • How did he bomb? It was perfect. Memories of some politically charged Andy Kaufman.

  • Bombs?

    It was awesome.

It's hard to believe he can ad lib like that... quite impressive. (assuming it was ad libed of course)

  • Colbert was both brilliant and hilarious in this...far from bombing!

  • wow...what a moron. Colbert was brilliant in this, but Russert was a tool. Who reads Colbert's book as a serious campaign work?

  • Stephen Colbert is an awesome, very thoughtful and incredably funny.

    He certianly did not bomb.

  • Russert had to be on this

  • I agree with you, Russert has always known when to just kick back and enjoy himself and Colbert gave him that chance

  • I don't think he bombed! I think he was smart, articulate, and funny! He wasn't as outrageous as he is on the Report, but this is Meet the Press... I thought he was completely engaging and appropriate!

  • Bombed? This was funny as hell!!! Stephen Colbert is just brilliant...absolutely brilliant!

  • This is all staged. Tim russert was not this stupid. It was in good fun.

  • he didnt bomb this

  • I love Stephen Cobert!

  • Colbert deserves alot, the man had a horrible life and is now a Comedic genius and the people who dont get it are to retarded to even relise when hes not serious

if you wanna see his true story watch the 60 minutes interview the man is a Genuis

  • Haha what.. Nowhere near a bomb...

  • didn't bomb at all he never broke his act obviously he ultra conservative character is just that and his stayed in it great job

  • He didn't bomb at all. He's as funny as usual and he made just as many points as usual.

  • I agree that I nearly peed myself listening to Colbert (as always)

I just wish he woulds have won in South Carolina (It would have been amazing) and that they'd named the space shuttle after him

  • wow

  • How did he bomb on this? He was being funny. He is a comedian. And look at the part where he tries to call him out on not knowing south carolina. Russert has one question prepared. and colbert replies knowing several other facts. Russert just made him self look pissed at the world

  • slapstick implies base, physical comedy. Poster, you make no sense.

  • He did not bomb here, it's the same original satire you can see on his show, and in his book. It's just harder to see because it's Meet the Press, Russert (as Yan117mc1 said) Had a job to do, they couldnt just sit there and laugh, it was an interview.

  • great interview on both parts. russert and colbert worked together beautifully. hilarious.

  • I'm curious about what you define to be "slapstick" comedy. I'd say that in your typical season of the Colbert Report you can probably amount to about 5-10 minutes of borderline "slapstick" when he eats foul tasting substances just to get a reaction. 10 minutes out of 200 minutes of his hit show's airtime is hardly a dependence on slapstick. You watch meet the press. I'm sure you can respect an adult discussion and not just delete this comment like other childish youtubers.
