Beautiful video, I loved the look of the nebula and the warp effects! Did you scale-up the cube compared to the Enterprise? It looks way more imposing than I thought it did in Best of Both Worlds. Why was the star field so muted, though--it looked a little unfinished at times?
Thanks. The size of the Borg cube is not stated in any series or film, but considered to be 3000m across with the Enterprise-D at 642m long. I scaled this correctly in these shots but in BoBW they were limited by the physical models to get the perspectives right, so they couldn't do distant shots moving closer in such as at 3:01 for example, which really show the sheer size of the cube.
You know I could watch films about zombies, vampires, and the usually scary crap but when i saw the borg for the first time wen i were little it scared me shitless, even now looking at that cube and when I see the borg it sends a shiver down my spine.
VideoSpaceFX, where the hell do I start? I know the 'Best of Both Worlds' episodes word for word. I'm ashamed to say how many times I've watched them. But what you've done here is nothing short of phenomenal. You're a bloody genius! I love the detail on the Enterprise and especially the Borg Vessel. Glad you added the borg warp effect from Voyager, loved how you showed the size differential when the Enterprise left the nebula. Everything was fantastic and better than the episode. Amazing job!
Dang, that dramatic music at the end still gives me goose bumps! Very well put together. Saddened, but can understand why the continuation had to get canned.
I really, really hope you follow up (eventually!) with the Battle of Wolf 359 and the Ent-D's attack on the cube to rescue Picard. That would be perfect.
This is truly a fantastic work you have done. I've never seen something like that made just for fun on youtube or anywhere else. Keep on the excellent work. You've got huge talent for sure.
That was very cool! I love all the little updates you did like the borg warp flash and think the design of the cube was great. The only thing I would have done different is used the picard voice over as locutus, sort of like how in the narendra 3 battle video you used the yesterday's enterprise picard speech. love your choice of music too! is that from the soundtrack or something?
Thanks, I wasn't sure where to fit the Locutus voice bit into the video. I did record it off the episode to use but I never did. The music is from the TNG soundtrack some Star Trek games and other places.
The animation is awesome - as usual. But I couldn't help but notice the all the work done on sound fx and music. It all comes together to make this larger than life. If they really are thinking of remastering TNG they should definitely give you a call!
You've already earned your place in Stovokor but keep up the good work :)
One note though... The Borg cube looks well... too repetitive :) I presume its because you modeled all of those Cube parts yourself. It needs to have a more versatile texture. Have you considered using a bumped high res texture over a plain cube to achieve a more realistic look? I believe it would be great however I am by no means 3D expert :)
That would probably look good. It does have an opacity map applied to the outer surface which shows through the inner glow. It renders very quickly like this and I won't be changing it for Part 2 to keep it consistent.
after watching this quite a few times already,i have to conclude my other fav shot is the Borg cube literally behind The Ent-D rear !!! Great Stuff !!!
The music that plays at the scene at 2:30 - 3:10 and again at 5:25 - end is perfectly fitting for the scenes played there. Thumbs up for putting chills down my spine!
@cdname47 Trying to match the actual "rubber band" effect is very difficult and time consuming so what I use is a method that takes 5 minutes. Besides they used about 4 or 5 different effects for warp in the series and films.
@barry8472 Thanks! I think they did the best they could on their budget, they had to reuse the models made for the movies and CGI wasn't up to scratch at that time, else they could have had many different looking ships.
@VideoSpaceFX Maybe you could instert the borg greeting to the beginning of the battle but probably you already planned everything so i shut up now :D
@CJCA915 Yes. Tractor beam is fractal noise stretched vertically with some other noise as well and shield is just an 3D ovaliod with some masking. I basically "hand draw" all my effects which takes along time!
why don't you splice these in with some of the dialogue sequences, (well at least the good ones) i dig your video creations

@NemesisMarine01 I agree. Borg embody what humans fear most: nothingness. The appearance of their ships says nothing yet everything.

@NemesisMarine01 Agreed. The Motorola Droid commercials freak me out a little because they remind me of The Borg.

7:29 onwards I already hear the words from the episodes lol
"I am locutus, of borg. Resistance is futile. Your life as it has been is over, from this time forward, you will service us.." 7:27
"Mr Worf... fire" " 7:49

1. I love that you kept the wrong phasers on the nacelle struts, just like it was in the episode. That's some ironic accuracy there :)
2. I hope Paramount one day decides to remaster the TNG special effects, just so that they can hire you to join the team!

Well the model is a perfect cube, what you are noticing could be distortion from using an anamorphic 28mm lens.
