good post spencershuk. great tune. just got in from a night out. smoking a spliff and this song suddenly came to me whilst watching the cricket highlights. off to listen to some classic rod now. Man of constant sorrowl Tune......
Rod often jokes that he never got any payment at all for his performance on this track. For me I just love this number , remember it as a kid , and its high pitched guitar solo's.
Lovely video and yes what great memories! like most people whom grew up in that unique era playing records and later 8 tracks to great tracks by Rod Stewart, T Rex, Elton John, Cream, Stones and so many more...........it has to be said, where did those days go?
Is it really just my own memory or was life much simpler then, we were happy just to play music with some friends, (writtten, played and sung by REAL bands) a little drink, (Watneys Party Seven!) create a little noise perhaps...ahh
I was 15 when this came out - and everyone was asking who the vocalist was at first as Rod wasn't credited. After this I became a big fan of his until he went MOR with Atlantic Crossing. This is IMHO his finest song.
I have this song on a ropey old reel to reel tape recorded off the radio. And without hauling that out I can't remember if it was Fluff or Tom Browne who was doing the Top Twenty then. But this brings back the seventies.
They needed a singer to test the lyrics and song. What they paid Rod Stewart managed to get him new seat covers for his car. Wasn't credited for this when it came out.
One of the greatest Rod tracks ever- and check this one out- A British female record producer brings the sound of Rod to a new generation. In YouTube, search for 'TIMEKODE, ROD STEWART' and listen to 'YOU'VE BROKEN THRU'...
Superb!! Rod doing what he does best bluesey rock. Love this song and ,Losing you, I'd rather go blind,,Keep me hanging on etc,etc Rod is the bizzo! Fancy the hell out of that Penny lass he married. Lucky , Talented , Old, , Scotsman!!
@mark22160 ...... This is the original from 1972. Rod was bought in as a session singer for this track as Dave Bentley lead singer of Python Lee Jackson said his voice wasn't right for the song!!!! ............Original band members were David Bentley David Montgomery Mick Liber Tony Cahill & Gary Boyle............ Rod did however perform this in around 2006-2008 with Jeff Beck ;0)
Python Lee Jackson is not a person, it's the name of the band that played this song. Rod Stewart was not a member of the band, he was brought in to work with them on a few songs, thus he was featured as a guest vocalist on this song.
He was never the band's lead vocalist and it is not a Rod Stewart song.

Yes, of course it is Rod Stewart, great song !

First heard this band on the syndicated Blues Deluxe show. Standout material, but I can't find the CD version of the album.

@hmscollingwood Yes it's Rod who was featured on this track...Python Lee Jackson was an Australian band active from 1965 to 1968.
