While Russell Crowe won the Oscar for Best Actor with this performance I thought Richard Harris's short-lived role as Marcus Aurelius was incredible. This movie is a masterpiece because of the story line, drama, action, superb acting, lighting, costumes, special effects, literally everything about this movie is likeable. Sure it might have been Hollywooded up a bit and historically inaccurate at points but it didn't take anything away from the premise of the movie. Rant done.

the dark knight, inception, gladiator, butterfly effect, the island... these are REAL movies... you enjoy them, you feel the protagonist's feelings, the antagonist's too.... you get into the plot and when they end, you are left thinking about it for long... i would add an anime to this list if movie purists don't crucify me... death note... watch it if you have time ;)
