oldcrazydog1 We just left Nashville this morning after spending Christmas with kids.
We were shopping at Walmart in Mt. Juliet and saw Buck Trent out there. Looked like he was returning something so didn't interrupt. We are going back in 3 weeks and will go by and check Gabe's out. Maybe they need a piano player. We're gonna move up there if my wife can find a job close to Mt. Juliet. Have a good one.
cw85739 I remember sitting one night when Wade was there. He used to work with Tammy Wynette. He now has his own show in Branson. He goes by Wade Benson Landry. We worked together in Mississippi several years ago. I understand Gabe's is no longer a country music club. One of my favorite memories is sitting in when Billy Dean came in and sat in with us. He did old standards that everyone would know. I thought, what a pro. Back to Faron, He helped many people over the years in Nashville.
@88TigerEye Actually Gabe's is definitely still a country music club with an awesome band. Doug Russell is a great drummer, his wife Cindy great female country singer and Matt Long is the lead singer/guitar player. He is an unreal guitar player, super smooth singer and a nice guy to boot! I don't know the bass players name but he sings really good too! No one sings old country like Matt. They are one of the best kept secrets in Nashville!
One night at Gabe's Lounge in Nashville I was sittin' in with some of the pickers there and Faron's band was there and all left together to go on tour. About 20 minutes later they all filed back in, Faron on a binder, tour cancelled. We all had a huge belly laugh when we found out what happened. Faron was one of the best singers and showmen in history of country music. Man I miss him.
@88TigerEye I remember Gabe's well. I sat in as well many times back when the place was half the size it is today; when the band was just to the left as you came in the door. The night that the Oak Ridge Boy's recorded "Gonna Take A Lot Of River" Cajun Accordion player Basil along with Wade Benson, both members of Jimmy C. Newman's band Cajun Country came by after the recording session. (Both were on the recording and in the video) Lynn Owsley of E.T.'s Texas Troubadours was also there.
Jim Reeves no doubt was the master of voice control; but Faron was the ABSOLUTE master of voice oscillation!! Nobody and absolutely nobody in the past 20 years can come close to Faron.
he was a true country artist and his songs meant so much to me as a fan, he sang from his heart and i miss hearing him sing. the country they have playing now is nothin compared to what he sang.
The best voice in the world, and the most under-appreciated. It breaks my heart when I think he died believing no one loved his music anymore. Sweet dreams Faron.
He stuck a pistol in his mouth and pulled the trigger.. The radio stations deserted real country and great artist like Faron, Marty, etc etc .. faron said "they can kiss my ass"
I agree Mad Joker. The garbage they play now isn't country. Bring back Faron, Marty, Jim Reeves, Ray Price, etc. If you notice, Faron, like many other old time artists, fine tuned their voices as they got older, & the songs they once did sounded better the second time around.
One of the true country GREATS . What a great musicians , never playing over the vocals or each other.... some "amateur" bands should listen more closely and try doing this instead of trying to play as loud as possible.

Faron Young and Ray Price set the standard for every singer since their time. Nobody other than King George even comes close.

This one brings back memories of my childhood. A great version of this song recorded in the middle 50's.

Nobody can ever replace that voice, ever!
In person he was one character and the voice
never wavered and could have broke the
proverbial glass.

I once heard Faron say this was his favorite all time song. I suppose he meant of songs that he had done.
