Thanks for the video! been canning things for all my aunts and uncles, I'm just doing it for the fun of making gift baskets for them but I am now hooked and want to keep making for our own household fresh everything. In this video which one did you make, jelly, jam, or marmalade?
@SenorPipaDeLaPaz : we showed jelly, and explained the differences to make the rest (jam includes pieces of the fruit, preserves is whole pieces of the fruit, and marmalade incorporates the rind). Best of luck with your caning and preserving - we are hooked too!
@SenorPipaDeLaPaz : into the jelly, incorporate the orange sections cut into bits and this is jam. Prepare the same way, or type "orange jam recipe" into your search engine for other recipes. Since you will be incorporating the fruit pieces, you may want to also water bath the jars for 10 minutes (put the filled jars in water, bring water to a boil - then start timer for 10 mins). Remove from water bath and put on towels to cool.
Thanks Matt and Connie. My wife and I have made a lot of preserves over the years, but we are far removed from Florida's bounty of oranges and so have never tried that. I'll bet it is delicious.
It's a shame that so many young people have lost the excellent link with the past that preserving foods represents.
Kudos to you folks for showin' 'em how it's done.
