Holy Shit, Vassar! You and Thile standing side by side is a site fot the ages. Just two incredible players. No Grisman ego. Just straight musiciansip. I'll throw in some Sammy bush for ya for good measure. Tony Rice isn't any slouch either.
I was there, later when Chris , Sam , and David, are on stage alone. they play something like rattlesnake then Chris drops his pick during the song. Hangs his head after the song and walks off stage. Do you remeber that?
It really does make me a bit sad that people disregard the Immense talents of Bush and Grisman. no doubt, Thile is a badass...but Grisman and Bush forged the road and are absolutely ridiculous. some of my greatest live music experiences have been with Bush and Grisman...this is ridiculous!
nmfarlow is right in saying that Chris Thile is a cut above the other mandolinists in terms of effortless technique and the flow of original ideas. And it's a pleasure to hear him play in a traditional bluegrass context, pushing the envelope but never losing touch with the spirit of the genre. Oh yeah, the tune is "Daybreak in Dixie."
Wow Thanks for posting! almost like I was there! All these guys are crazy talented..relative to the comment about Chris Thile smoking everybody I dunno...He IS smokin no question but Bush and Grisman were absolutely unreal in delivering the sounds that all their fans always listen for.Chris Thile just has a unique style very close to Ray Legere who ranks WAY up there as well :)
Linda, you have my deepest sympathy. I've been a devoted fan of Larry and Tony for a long time! ...ats far back as when they both played with J.D. Crowe in the early 70s. If any of us can help you in any way, you can find a way to chase any of us down. Please don't hesitate to ask. I'd love to call you and offer my respect, but I misplaced Frank & Louise's phone number.
do u have my space is so let me know your my space name ok Thanks I am just trying to get thru each day I miss him so and the bluegrass people have been so supportive to me and for that I am so very grateful It means a lot to me
Just think they have played all day and now playing well into the wee hours of the morning. What dedication to the music! MY SONS AND i HAVE SPENT MANY GREAT MOMENTS AT MANY MIDNIGHT JAMS.

Thile is the Frodo of the mandolin. The dude is a straight up Tolkien character with those skills.
