Brownnrownson is the person who likes old school engines he lieks only Detroit Diesel he should try getting use to cumins engines believe me he told me he would never ride buded again hehehe
Because the DD50 sucks. Its too dirty plus its been giving SEPTA problems. And since its not being made anymore, even all the more reason to get rid of it and go with an engine that is far more dependable and cleaner.
@SuperSonic3783 the 2001 2002's will not be converted to a cummins engine....they will remain having the dd50......the ones that will be converted to cummins are the 2003 2004's......and guess what there is a 2005 new flyer d60lf with a dd50EGR in las vegas.......so anything after 2005, all buses had cummins engines
Have these a lot up here in Kelowna But we have the Novabus LF's and the Alexander Dennis Enviro 500's to

Love the sound of the engine
g4tech 2 years ago 3
I hate the ones now adays because they look like the older ones but the engine sounds like more of a truck
the older ones are the ones that sound a bit like the engines on the rapid bus
fargeek 2 years ago
Sounds better in real life if you ride it long enough lol.

I always use SEPTA just about everyday that includes riding the Ikaruses, the New Flyers and Neoplans.
RedLifeguardRanger 4 years ago 5
How Many Ikaruses y'all have left? I've got to come and ride them before they leave.
qwandiddy 3 years ago
We have some still left. On route 56 I think we still have, on route 70, and I think maybe 15.
DeltaPhi79 2 years ago
@qwandiddy just barely over 150

Ah I see SEPTA uses the same seats as my city's (Hamilton Street Railway), right down to the colour. Your D40LF's are quite different though.

I think the New Flyer buses are about the most kewlest looking models currently in SEPTA's fleet.
Personally, I like to refur to the New Flyer fleet as "low rider" buses. *Cue the low rider song* lol

Most buses today are powered by Caterpillar or Cummins engines. They are much cleaner than the DD's and are much better for the environment.

What engine is this
Jomar574 4 years ago
Detroit Diesel Series 50 engine coupled to an Allison Transmission however soon it will be converted into a Cummins ISM engine.

@SuperSonic3783 no a Cummins ISL engine. And 5401-5600 still has the Detroit Diesel series 50 275 hp engine.
