I pray for Mr Ford's soul. Where in the the Scriptures or in the 2,000 year history of Christianity did it say that killing a baby in the womb was okay? The Fords were in serious error on this matter. May God have mercy on them!
@JTB1956 What an arrogant thing to say--as if you were God! There is Scriptural evidence that we need to pray for the dead. And Orthodox, some Anglican, and Catholics rightly believe this. Did Ford tell you he was in Heaven?
@pwthcim From your response I'd say that you are the one in need of prayer. I sure hope you check your attitude before attempting to witness to anyone.
Gerald Ford may have been a worthless SOB, but they gave one one decent sendoff. You listen to this and can almost believe the guy might have had an ounce of redeeming quality to him. Almost.
@bowlchamp411 Where do I start? The Warren Commission, pardoning Nixon, pro-abortion, runaway inflation...this could go on forever.
When he left office, he made no bones about cashing-in on the presidency. Harry Truman must have spun 1,000 RPM in his grave while Ford sat on multiple corporate boards and charged $25k for after-dinner speeches. As a result, now all ex-Presidents do it.
Truman once said, "you can't buy the office of the Presidency from me". But Ford was in it for the bucks.
@moproducer i wont put my personal politics in this, but he was our president and if you wanna criticize him, do it on a differnt video. like mariofreak said, show some respect

Let me put a question to you: If my comments had been directed at Bill Clinton or Barack Obama, would I still be "hateful and nasty" or would you heartfully agree that they took America the "wrong way"?
Hypocrisy is really taking over the world lately, Froggy.
@SIKE01 He held the nation together after the Watergate scandal and the resignation of Richard Nixon. The people of the United States are greatly in his debt.
@mindspring57 GERALD FORD role on the WARREN COMMISSION was to keep tabs on the other committee members for the FBI. He gave RICHARD NIXON a free pass...without him admitting his GUILT or APOLOGIZING to the AMERICAN people for his crime...and finally, FORD was nearly assassinated (twice) the second time he was saved by an innocent bystander. He didnt have the decency or class to invite the guy to the White House to give him a medal. or years later attend the man's funeral....cause he was gay!
@SIKE01 As for JFK, I believe Oswald acted alone. At the time (September 1974), I was very much opposed to the pardon of Richard Nixon. Surely there was some "understanding" between Nixon and Ford, particularly since the pardon came exactly one month after Nixon announced he would resign. You are correct about Sipple, the ex-Marine who was gay. Viewed with the benefit of nearly 40 years of hindsight, though, Ford made an important contribution to the Nation which cannot be denied.
I cried during "For All The Saints" when I saw the Fords clinging to each other for solace. That is the first time that I cried at a funeral. I am an Episcopalian and I felt akin to the Fords and all my brothers and sisters in the National Cathedral that day. That was Bruce Neswick on the organ.
I cried during "For All The Saints" when I saw the Fords clinging to each other for solace. That is the first time that I cried at a funeral. I am an Episcopalian and I felt akin to the Fords and all my brothers and sisters in the National Cathedral that day.
Hail to the victors, valiant hail to the conquring heroes Hail, Hail to Michigan the champions of the west. I'm sure Gerald himself would of loved to hear it at his service. Once a Wolverine always a Wolverine. Rest in peace Mr President.
one of the most decent and admirable men to have ever been allowed to use the presidential seal. President Ford, Nixon and Reagan were magnificent individuals who we are all so lucky to have said walked this earth...
Nothing better than a completely full Cathedral singing "For All the Saints" with a huge choir to lead them!! The Trompette En Chamade caught the attention of one of President Ford's sons on that one stanza. LOVED it!
No one should say Ford did not accomplish anything in his career; without him, the Warren Commission would have had a much tougher time covering up for the men who killed Kennedy. He and Allen Dulles and John J. McCloy did everything they could to hang the rap on LHO.
And give him a few demerits for pardoning Tricky Dick.
you will burn in hell sir ! he did more for america than you ever will ! and tricky dick? what a disgrace to call a brilliant peace making president that ! there is a special place for you in hell and you shall burn there for eternity ! you must already be living in hell with yoru unconscionable evil comments !
@iamdiaperman You have no freaking clue as to what you are saying; Ford was nothing but an FBI shill and spy on the Warren Commission distorting evidence to protect the guilty; save your prayers; perhaps many of the East Timorese murdered by Ford's friend Suharto; or for that matter the many more Indonesians murdered by him.
Actually, it's an old E.M. Skinner. AEolian-Skinner added ranks in the 1960's and 1970's if I'm not mistaken (I don't have the history of this organ in front of me as I'm not home). My all time favourite hymn.
@furley523 Oh, yeah, they sure do. Especially when they let women on the altar, ordain homosexuals and women as priests, and generally ignore what Christian scripture says. Well, at least they sing pretty songs in tune.
@EzrinJem2 I've come to realize that it's more the fundamental churches that have no "checks and balances" that ignore scripture. For instance, a Pastor told a friend of mind that there is not place in heaven for smokers. WHAT??? I take pride in the fact that the E.C. affords the same rights, dignity, and respect for all; and doesn't judge who GOD calls to serve. I have been most moved by some of their women Priests. They seem to get it better then the men.
@furley523 My friend....#1) That "pastor" was an idiot; and #2) God's word is timeless and does not change. It says in The Bible that women are not to be ordained, nor are they to step foot on the altar.
You may call this sexist by today's standards, but this is God's will. Love it or leave it.
@EzrinJem2 I say leave it; in (1 Cor. 14:33-35) and in (1Tim. 2:11-12) They do both say that that women are to be silent in Church and not have a teaching role over man.......but..
@EzrinJem2 But in (Galatians 3:26-29) it says "You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise." So there for women are equal in the church in my opinion and the Episcopal Church.
I remember watching the funeral, but had forgotten that this was the final hymn. It's one of my favorites, and how wonderful to stumble upon it on YouTube. God bless Gerald Ford, Barack Obama, and the United States of America!
This is my favorite Anglican Hymn !!! I am seized with emotion every time I sing it or hear it. It's a very long hymn, yet every verse is so apt and so true.... beautiful when sung in it's entirety.
Thank you for this wonderful video. YouTube is a wonder !
It is quite necessary to play with a detached touch in the Cathedral, when one is supporting congregational singing. Scott Dettra, the current Organist, is a master at sensing just how much to detach to enhance the singing.
I am so pleased that when the family planned Pres Ford's memorial they included all the beauty, reverance, and solemnity of their beloved Episcopal church. Particularly within the magnificent building that is the National Cathedral and closing with this beautiful & moving hymn with ALL of the people signing together in unison.
Stirring and triumphant hymn, but I was moved most by the scene at 3:05 of Mrs. Ford and her sons huddled to share the program. From what I've heard (I was born and brought up in DC), the Fords were the "most real" and "most fun" family to have inhabited the White House--in our time, anyway. I wasn't around when Andrew Jackson was in office...
Agreed. Also, how the camera pans to the "Christ the King" rose window immediately after that touching moment. I also like when the camera (at 5:00) pays homage to his longtime home state by panning up to the Michigan flag.
The organ is wonderful. However, I find it odd how the organist detaches the pedal notes. It really disrupts the smoothness of the melody line. Beautiful service though.
Gerald Ford was a bad man! A fool of a man who pardoned the lying snake Richard Nixon. He covered up Nixon's scandal. A ruthless act which cost him his re-election in 1977 to Jimmy Carter. Gerald Ford was a bad man!
It's called grace. Something we all experience from God Himself on a daily basis. It was also grace that made salvation possible. Don't be so harsh...
This hymn written by an English bishop for the long, stately processions full of pagentry which we in the Anglican (Episcopal) tradition love. Ralph Vaughn Williams updated the tune. It is one of the most beloved hymns in the Episcopal Church and always sung on All Saints Sunday in Nov.
Before encountering fame, Ralph Vaughn Williams was a male prostitute that had sex with children and old men alike. He and Mr Ford had MUCH in common, except Williams did it out of desperation. Both abominations of human beings.
I hope you don't don't mind us in the Roman Catholic tradition "borrowing" your Anglican hymns. ;-) We sing this sometimes at Mass in the RC Cathedral here in Waterford, Ireland. Great hymn.
Music is the universal language, and may be the true basis of equmenism. I vote for Bach (Protestant), Widor (Roman Catholic), and Hymns (Protestant and Roman Catholic). We should sing instead of fight!
I love this hymn and the organist did a fantastic job... the last verse gives me chills everytime....does anyone else think changing this Skinner organ is a travesty
Everyone is entitled to their errors. This is his funeral. I agree, have some respect. Your comments may be true, but this is not the appropiate place to voice them. Yes you have a right as a citizen to be critical about your President, but he was also a human being. Noting that, let us respect at least his positive contributions to the country and leave negative political comments in their proper place. Which, is not here. Enjoy the hymn.
Actually, in How's original scoring for it, there are 11 verses. But they only sang eight verses of the hymn, leaving out the ones most everybody does: the ones that start, "For The Apostles" "For the Evangelists" and "For the Martyrs".
Gerald Ford was a complete homosexual and frequently used male prostitutes for hard sex. The man was scum, an obvious homosexual and an enemy of the American people.
This man is and was a complete homosexual man whore.
Erik Wm. Suter on last stanza used full organ including the 64' Bombarde in the pedal, Trompette En Chamade in an earlier stanza, WOW!! what a fitting way to end a stately funeral at the National Cathedral. Ernest M. Skinner (he built that organ)would have been proud!
When I became a chorister in a famous NYC Episcopal church boys choir 41 years ago, this was the first hymn I sang with the choir. It's been my all time favorite, Erik Wm. Suter organist at Pres. Ford's funeral, gave it justice against that huge choir.
Man whore. You are Jehovah's witness go around door to door say Join us or go hell and people say no so you stick manhood in their faces and tell them you are really not Jesus.
In addition to being an asshole and idiot, you're probably one of those homo prostitutes that provided those disgusting services in D.C. routinely you sick faggot. So therefore, hopefully you're dying of AIDS and we'll not have to see your useless comments anymore you asswipe.
I haven't any idea what you're talking about, but a old friend of mine once after 3 weeks of these Jehovah's pests waking him up early Sat. mornings with that Watchtower cat litter box liner rag that they try to force down one's throat, opened his door fully nude and erect to 3 old hags, not only did they not return, nobody from Kingdom Hall tried either! He's been sleeping like a baby EVERY Saturday morn. since! BIG LOL!!!!!!!
First of all, it is not a "Song", it's a Hymn. Secondly the tune "Sine Nomine" or "For All the Saints" was written by Ralph Vaughan Williams. The words are by William Walsham How who was a suffragan Bishop of London's East End and held the title Bishop of Bedford.
I am looking for the part where the black solo woman singer sang. My recording was faulty for that part. It was so beautiful, please tell me if you have it.
I pray for Mr Ford's soul. Where in the the Scriptures or in the 2,000 year history of Christianity did it say that killing a baby in the womb was okay? The Fords were in serious error on this matter. May God have mercy on them!

Noting that, let us respect at least his positive contributions to the country and leave negative political comments in their proper place. Which, is not here. Enjoy the hymn.

oops, I meant to address that comment to the people insulting Ford

The only way to end a national funeral-- with all 10 verses of the greatest Ralph Vaughn Williams hymn of all time. Brilliant.
historybuff87 4 years ago 2
Erm, That's only EIGHT verses...but I agree in principle.
contratromba858 4 years ago
in the full version there is 10. :P
historybuff87 4 years ago

Because ramming Ford up the bottom wore him out.

do you have the video in which they enter the Cathedral?
sgcreeps130227 4 years ago
First of all, it is not a "Song", it's a Hymn. Secondly the tune "Sine Nomine" or "For All the Saints" was written by Ralph Vaughan Williams. The words are by William Walsham How who was a suffragan Bishop of London's East End and held the title Bishop of Bedford.

The song on this video is called 'For All the Saints'. It's an Episcopal/Anglican anthem written by a Bishop.

I am looking for the part where the black solo woman singer sang. My recording was faulty for that part. It was so beautiful, please tell me if you have it.
newties21 5 years ago
I believe I might have that as I taped the entire funeral. I think she was the opera star Jesse Norman and I'm sure I've misspelled her first name.
