  • How large would a 1hp sterling engine be roughly?

  • imagine attaching a dildo onto that thing.

  • Awesome. Very cool solar power! Props on what you accomplished!

But then comes the critical perfectionist part of me, so feel free to ignore. It looks great, but I can't see that it would be incredibly practical, especially on a mobile vehicle, but who knows? Any idea what kind of torque and/or power output your getting?

    Props, and cheers!

  • What???

  • the high cost for these and how simple they are make zero sense

  • Ever think of attaching another piston to the reverse end and driving a linear alternator to generate electricity? Curious to see how much juice you could make since a linear alternator is what Infinia is using in their parabolic single-piston stirling arrays. Whaddya think?

  • what exactly do you use yours for?

  • @ena1rume this one is just a toy and for testing.

  • how come i never see these things generating electricity?

  • is that water in the tube?

  • I love your videos. Have you considered an open-cycle Brayton cycle engine?

My thinking is that they operate on a similar principle but by venting the hot air to the atmosphere after expansion, they would not be limited by the heat sink's ability to discharge heat. I am guessing for a particular engine size (and cost), a Brayton cycle engine might achieve higher useful power output. You could perhaps send the air through your parabolic trough collector.

  • Ok.

    Now at real speed please.

    :)

  • That is

  • One nice little engine,i also have one buy from ebay..... it cool

  • thank you

  • Where is your better half these Days?

  • She has been getting caught up on organizing. We got 120+ days of rain and it was impossible to stay organized.

    Stuff got soaked etc.

We are working on a solar panel finish video.

    She says HI:-)

  • Wow! That's great, can you attach a electric generator to it?

  • Working on a larger one DIY just like this. Waiting for parts.

  • @Bobster986

i dont know about his but alot dont have enough torch

  • Dan,

Are Stirling Engines capable of doing work?

  • I'm not dan but I've messed with these enough...

They cant handle a lot of work but with the right care one like in the video can produce 12 volts at a few amps

  • Nice work, Dan...

  • Still not doing anything special.

  • You always make these engines but why do you never connect to a generator and generate some electricity?

  • I'd love to see a small Stirling engine hooked up to a 12 volt generator, leading to a battery bank in your house. Even a small one like the roll around battery cart that I use would be good enough, Then every time you plug something into it you'd know you were getting power that's off the meter. Of course a set of solar cells would be easier but I've heard that Stirling power generation is more efficient than solar cells.

  • Can you scale it up and use a dual-axis sun tracking device? That would probably do more useful work, such as generate electricity. Very promising!

  • Can you show it doing some work?

  • ty dan for this video! im planning to make one as your engine (im an energetic engeneer still studing...) can i ask you some question by e-mail?

  • there is this black sealent for wood burning stoves that I think would work well on the boiler. It safe up to 2000degrees F.

  • Thank you for the information.

Dap 18854 Stove and Fireplace Mortar

This is what I found on Google.

  • what is the torque?

  • An alternative to a solar tracker is to have several mirrors. Say one for the morning, one for the afternoon and a third for the middle of the day. This is not quite as good but it is simple.

  • power your house with that thing haha

  • Hi Dan,

Great video, I like it that you share your hobby and findings with us. I very much enjoy the good quality from your videos, considering that there is no professional camera crew and a director, etc. etc. I wish more people would follow your example, at least you are a big source of inspiration to me. Keep up the good work !!

Greets to you and Denise from the Netherlands, iT

  • how big can this device get and how much power does it output.

  • use the motor to power a fan on a hot day

  • I love your work Dan but I would really love to see one of these engines actually do some work. Not have a volt meter on it because voltage means nothing without amperage.

Basically I want to see an engine like this run a small motor under load or something. We need to see what sort of scaling / multiples of these engines would be required for useful work

  • Agree, It's all good, but can i see some production.

  • At what temperature was the Stirling engine running?

Are there any "industrial size", solar powered Stirling engines operating anywhere in the world?

Thanks for your videos! Nunquam redono

  • Something like this would be great if it was on a water feature outside like a small pound or bird bath.

  • Hi,

The concept of the clear glass offers an option for internal heating with stainless steel wool, so it should run faster and could be a cute pump.

  • Think he said the satellite dish is due on the 15th. Ummm

and correct me if I am wrong, but it is "Stirling",

    not starling;-0

    Starfire

Not to be GPS guys attorney (lol) but he said (editing part 2, how to build the parabolic trough, NOT parabolic dish) and from the looks of the last 2 vids before the little engine , they are exactly that. So again not to be snappy but, maybe you did not watch the video?

  • The satellite dish video isn't what I was referring to, it was the TROUGH MIRROR Parabolic Parabola Reflector Solar Water Heater Boil Water with the Sun. He did say that it was a teaser video of a multi-part series and Yes it is Stirling not Starling, I forgot to check for spelling, but Im sure glad that you brought that to my attention. As GPS attorney maybe you know how the Stirling Engine/Make-up Mirror video fits into that series?

Hey, I like GPS Videos! Always Have! I subscribe

  • I agreee with hokushin99. These starling engine videos are lame, they never do anything but spin wheels. Plus you were supposed to be showing that newest parabolic dish you made and it's supposed to be boiling water. When are we going to see that? As I recall you said that you were editing the video. we've now seen 2 other videos since then, not of the new finished parabolic mirror boiling water

  • When is someone going to make one of these Stirling Engines do some work. I've seen hundreds of videos of people making them run, but I have yet to see anything useful from them.

  • cause if you control energy you control the people

  • But if we have such drives, I wonder just why we produce atomic energy, and resourc eating

  • Because you want lights, TV, cooking, internet......... when the sun is not shining! And you want it NOW! That's why.

  • without any problems so I could live without electric energy, which could also evolution until about 100 years ago

  • I want to see you complete a useful project. Here is one that could be great:

Multiple sheets of your "parabolic trough mirror" with:

    1) A homemade positioning system to work all day.

    2) Produces steam

    3) Use the steam to make a meaningul amount of power*, AND to distill seawater at the same time.

    * An idea amount of power would be enough to power your home (calculation for how many mirror troughs?).

  • I wonder how much torque it has. Could you put a belt on it and actually run something useful.

  • awesome

  • Where can you get free blueprints for one of these? Is that all aluminum?

  • Lol. Awesome music. Awesome engine. Beautiful.
