  • Great video, thanks!

Can shimming also be used to help with sharp intonation?

  • Great video.I cannot find the websight for the pdf

  • Thanks a lot, I'm about to shim the neck on my Rogue bass, and the masking tape is a great idea.

  • My old Teisco Del Rey ET-110 had a factory poured epoxy built up heel in the pocket, and they still didn't get it right and then threw some folded up Japan newspaper on top of that, lol.

I've no idea how thick that newspaper shim was because it disintegrated pretty much.

  • Thanks man. I had never done this mod before and it was breeze after watching the video. I had success using a few strips of a business card. Thanks again.

  • The absolute best thing to do is to mill down at an angle in the neck pocket!

This should be done from the beginning if it is a seriously built guitar!

  • @pleximanic From a purist point of view, you're maybe right but most factory-built guitars of this type either require shimming or the use of the neck tilt mechanism to set the tilt correctly 'out of the box'. To mill the neck pocket once the instrument is finished is beyond the skill/budget of most players.

  • only the brits could do this.....KISS

  • great video my man. Bryant from North Carolina

  • @ncboy65 Thanks. Anything else you think we should be covering..?

  • I'm not too sure about shimming with masking tape. It won't transmit vibrations very well. The best trick is to buy a cheap feeler gauge and cut it up into strips. The different thicknesses will give you plenty of choices.

  • @ChorltonM21 That was my first reaction when this technique was suggested to me by an American (I believe) repair guy but then I realised that masking tape is made from wood pulp, plus you've got the bolts clamping the metal plate hard against the back of the body... Whatever, I've never heard any loss of tone or sustain as a result of using masking tape.

  • LOL! Actually, it's the flat remains of a small glass of beer but I realised what a boozer it made me look as soon as I saw the the final video. Because I shoot and edit all the video myself, I didn't really have time - or enough instruments - to do it again. Cheers!!!

  • 1:06 the essential guitar tech's accessory - a glass of Scotch?

  • The neck's titled so far back it's impossible to get a high enough action because the saddle screws won't go down any further? Assuming the neck itself doesn't have a back bow, it's probably that someone has put too big a shim into the neck pocket in the past . Taking the neck off the body will help you to see what's going on. There is a detailed PDF about this on the Playmusic web site. But write back if the info doesn't solve your problem. Si

  • what if its tilting the opposite way in your picture at 2:46? mine is doing that

  • Amazing video!!

    Thank you very much!!
