@Treifla i bought the cheapest katana they make at roninkatana what ever teh site is. its pretty damn sharp and a good deal for how cheap the price was. chances are that the dudes cutting technique just sucks balls.
@paorob true but its illegal to test on a person now and i think that testing the edge of a sword is a different case than breaking a board, lately board breaks have become a show of skill and people take that as someones fighting ability, thus the quote "Boards dont hit back" fits perfectly just cuz you can break a board dosnt mean you can win a fight, yet when it comes to tameshigiri (test cutting) your testing the sword not your ability to cut.
not that it wasn't cool and all, but you might want to test it on matts to get a more realistic view of how sharp it is. I can pretty much do they same thing to a pool noodle with my hand

when you strike from above you have to have the sword right above your head, then swing it in an arc, you cant have it diaganol
