4 feet.... for WAY cheaper u can get a stationary boom mic stand and get an adapter to hold a camera. and rig up some kind of pully. sure, this is nicer, but in middle school i don't have much income to use on my films. all of it goes to that though.

I got a manfrotto tripod but I'm not sure if will hold 10lbs. Do you need a tripod that can hold over 10lbs or does counter weight sort of even things out?

@osfan25 you need a tripod that can hold the weight of the crane and your camera. What model Manfrotto did you get?

@OliviaTechVideos I have a manfrotto 190xdb, it says it can hold 11 lbs. But i figure a 10 lb counter weight plus the added weight of the camera and the head might be too much.

@osfan25 Yes, the tripod won't perform if it's over capacity in weight. Don't break it! You'd be better off just purchasing one that can hold the weight. There is a link on my original blog post for inexpensive tripods.

What kind of tripod are you using? The base looks a lot sturdier then my cheap-o tripod. I ordered the cran-jib but want to make sure I mount it on a "proper" tripod. Manfrotto has been the brand some of my peers are telling me to go with for my great tripod upgrade of 2011.
