how long would these keep for? if you want to make some ahead of time and pack them for lunch and what not over the next few weeks i mean :) best way to store them?
What is a good substitute for condensed milk? We don't get it around here. I made granola bars once with honey and dates but i'm not sure the taste would be the same.
Hi, I really love this recipe as I have a huge box of oat which is gonna expire soon! The condensed milk is really fattening though. Is there any way I could substitute it with something else??? THANKS!!
would you guys ever do a cooking class one day? I would travel to the UK just to take it. I have been following your recipes since the beginning and I never get anything less than a fantastic reaction!
made these using sultanas, blanched almonds and chunks of white chocolate. tasted amazing although i fear my stomach may be expanding as a type, ah well :D. awesome recipe!
I made these with chocolate and cocoa powder in it.. got them recently out of the oven and can't wait to taste them! Thanks for the recipe! it was so easy and the result just looks great! :D
@HypreEmmy You can find certified gluten-free oats which are great! Some gluten-intolerant people can't have even those oats, but I'm mega-sensitive and I never have problems with them. Oats themselves are GF but they are usually very contaminated with wheat, hence why Celiacs have problems with them.
Another option would be millet flakes, which will not be exactly the same but might work! You could combine them with GF rice krispies for this recipe. Hope that helps!
@widowspider I'm allergic to the gluten-free as well. Or rather, I'm not allowed to eat oats because my values are too high.. I know that they are gluten-free in themselves, but gets contaminated :P
Okay, thank you so much! I've tried quinoa, but I didn't like the taste of it.. Thank you!
@HypreEmmy Definitely try other cereal flakes like millet, as well as puffed rice, which are both absolutely gluten-free. You can get those relatively easily in health food stores and make a mixture of the two. It should work pretty well to make bars like these - kind of like a rice krispie cake but healthier! Good luck!
Well, mine did not stay pale. They went straight for Golden. Also the raisins puffed up. Also, I noticed afterwards that some of the nuts I threw in were salted, does that make a big difference do you think? Haven't tried them yet, but am looking forward to it.
@zephiriusjixx The salted nuts will make a slight difference to the taste... but the rest is fine. The raisins will naturally puff as the natural sugars in them get hot.
@sortedfood They were still great, they got eaten at every possible occasion, definitely going to make them again. People already want the recipe. Same goes for the Ham and Mushroom Pie, getting requests as well :D
I wanted to make these for my sister to take away with her on a school trip but she's lactose intolerant :( Is there any substitute at all for the condensed milk?
I love love love rasberrys is there a recipe you can show me to make the most of them. I am only 13 so I need simple easy and tasty food PLEASE HELP xxxxx love the show
@adyli84 Best to store them in an airtight tin or plastic container (when they're completely cool) for up to a week. They don't need to be refrigerated though! :D
@whoareyounave No substitute... make the recipe as it's designed. Instead just have a smaller piece if you're on a diet. Diets are allowed to contain treats, just in moderation like everything.
Is there a way we could substitute the condensed milk with something a bit more nutritious like honey? =3
And if so, would it be a direct substitution (cup for a cup) or lesser than the initial recipe? Also, will something else have to be added to make sure it sticks just as well and is just as chewy?
Sorry for the long question. >w< I <3 your recipes, by the way. ^^ Just that condensed milk has the stigma of being bad for your health for almost everyone over here. xD
Just want you guys to know how much I enjoy and appreciate your videos! They're always inspiring me to branch out, and show me how simple an excellent dish can be! Thanks again. :)
Thanks for this recipe! My Dad likes things like this for his breakfast, I think I might try making this for him. The shop-bought equivalents always seem so over-priced to me, it'll be great if he likes this :)
Slightly scared at how many people are asking about calories or saying condensed milk is unhealthy - treats are OK. I'm not saying I'm good at it, but it's having a balanced diet that is important, not cutting out every treat completely! A lot of people end up without a healthy diet from cutting too many things out or overeating because they get discouraged or over hungry trying to meet impossibly high standards imho. Sorry, rant over but lets look after ourselves and enjoy life :-)
@sepiasunrise Plus most of the ingredients in this are very healthy. (Sorry, I know I said rant over, but I forgot that part.) It's not like it was chocolate mudcake with cream, not that there's anything wrong with that in moderation either!
I love that your recipes are so easy. I'm a single mom so with a limited budget your recipes are going to be a great way for me to feed my kids without having to get a second mortgage on my home. Thanks guys!!!
