I saw in the credits that DJ Taylor was the consultant of the series. He is also the author on a biography of the Orwell called:"Orwell The Life" published by Vintage, so it makes sense that he acted as a consultant. Most of the words that the actor impersonating Orwell uttered, I could identify as extracts from his essays. It was a well-researched effort.
Well, its definately here, its always been here, we were just fast asleep dreaming about football, American Idol, dancing with the stars, fast cars, sex, alcohol
and rock 'n roll.
Well im sad to say we are about to pay for our past comfort dellusions with blood.
1984 was a really good book, but as Aldous Huxley said, the pattern of the Brave New World (Order) is more likely to happen because it's more effecient. And it seems that it's the pattern we live in today.
@angelvela The beginning of the documentary stated that there are no known audio or video of Orwell himself, the portrayal of him is done by an actor named Chris Langham. side note: Langham would later be found guilty of downloading indecent images of children from the Internet, and not guilty of six counts of indecent assault. Langham says he is innocent of all charges.
Tho find it sad that part A has 63 thousand plus views but the last part Q only has 6 thousand plus views. Shame that people can't be bothered to watch such a well made program as this from start to finish!
Also a shame that his predictions seems to be coming true in the way are governments are moving towards using fear as a way of taken peoples liberties away for one example!

excellent doco! a lot of people misunderstand him even today he wasn't about being a genius nor not being one, he certainly wasn't far away in that he changed a lot of people's view of the world they currently lived in and a nightmare future there could still be. thanks for posting
imagine being so stupid to continue chain smoking when ur dying of tb and young ppl today still continue to take up the deadly habit what incredible stupidity the human animal exibits
@mwjcoin he just did what he wanted to do, dude, i think that's worthy of respect. besides, it's not that quitting smoking will save you from tb, anyways.
He litterally "gave" his life for 1984. Wow how many writers can do that. He inspires me to continue. I like him often find myself isolated and writing away. Observing, thinking and when I can sparing my thoughts freely with those that chose to listen. Fantastic documentary. I'm not a fan of bbc or any corporate news but I'm impressed.
Orwell predicted it, 100% whats happening in our world today, btw 1984 was an amazing book. George Orwell = One of the most brilliant minds of the 20th century
I would argue he was perhaps the most brilliant mind. He was not a genius, and that's why I identify with him so much. He was a person for the people, and I think it should be made a duty to read 1984 and identify with the world we live in.
Excellent! Orwell is one of the great writers of the 20th century. So I guess it does no harm to mention that his literary inspiration for 1984 was Eugene Samiatin's "We". He said so himself.
Well? Are you lots going to go on about your life in a mindless game of pointless actions? Or will you heed the warnings of a man and simply, not let it happen?
Thanks very much for all of this I saw it a few years ago on television but really appreciate being able to see it again with muchmore prior knowledge than I had then.
World Against War -- join the global demonstration March 15th
Please join us, tell your friends, workmates and neighbours and make sure that on Saturday March 15 George Bush and Gordon Brown cannot ignore the fact that the world is against their wars.
It's a great thing to learn about what moves literary geniuses. And thus, it is a great thing to have learned what made Eric Arthur Blair, George Orwell.
That final speech brings icy tears to my eyes. Terrifying and moving at the same time. A warning against all forms of authoritarianism like ice on the conscience.
Absolutely terrifying, all the more for being so true and prescient.
