  • Kreisberg makes me feel like shit

  • So you want to play like Kreisberg, huh?...... One time I was talking to him at one of his gigs and I told him I was practicing like 6 to 8 hours a day....his response was, "You got any more time practice than that?"

  • @ES175jazz I don't get it...? Do you mean "You got any more time TO practice than that?"

If so that's insane haha To be fair Parker practiced 12, 13, 14 hours a day...

  • anyone know what his alesis nanoverb settings are? please reply!

  • @prsguitarsr4me I found out what his settings are, because I took a few lessons with him...

  • anyone know what settings he uses on his alesis nanoverb?

  • @GuitarCriti01 way too much.

  • do you honestly think that?

  • Has anyone worked out the opening chords? Reminds me a little of "Crooked Creek" (Brian Blade Fellowship w/ Kurt). Sounds like G D Bb C F A ??? Help!

  • The first two chords sound like minor add 9 triads, then the next chord is a major 7 #11, then the last one is dominant

  • the last is a dominant with a 3 and 4

  • The opening chords are played using the 6th string (bass note) and the top three strings. Notice how each voicing includes the open D string (listen carefully how he plays it after each chord).

So here they are from lowest to highest note (remember that the second note of each chord is the open D):

    G D Bb C F

    A D C D G

    Bb D D E A

    C D F E G

Notice that the upper structure of each chord is like a SUS sound that is moved up in a scalar motion.

    Hope this makes sense.

    Have fun

  • Sorry last one is

    C D E F Bb

  • i just got his latest album "night songs." and this is on it!! its so awesome. definitely have some transcribing to do!

  • I think I can listen to this song the whole day...5 stars

  • had a lesson w him yesterday and saw him perform today with a great drummer friend rudulfo zungia here in MIA. John is amazing! Chops, sensitivity, chordal, great time and overall musicality. A world class player and cool guy.

  • Ok maybe i'm wrong...I shouldn't say that 'cause everyones ears are different and taste too..i also have 2 cd's of jonathan which are really beautiful!

Anyway, that's a nice tune and his intepretation makes it even more beautiful!!

  • I'm a fan of kreisberg and rosenwinkel, and to sakuonist.....check out more of kreisberg before you say he sounds like rosenwinkel.....they're very different in a lot of ways

  • Don't know guys..I'm Kurt's fun year now and this guy play amazing unmistakable perfect but still reminds me Kurt.almost same sound,phrazing,chordwise..and who doesn't that?Rosenwinkel has inspired all the new generation of jazz guitarist.including me...

Only Adam Rogers is different and other approach of playing!(i'm talking of course for new modern jazz guitarists of my taste)

  • I think too many modern guitarists are trying to sound like Rosenwinkel, but Kreisberg is pretty far from his phrasing. I personally don't like Kreisberg that much as he sometimes has a tendency to let the fingers run. But it's all a matter of personal taste.

  • This is my favorite song next to South of Everywhere... Its so relaxing this trio is a wonderful combination,no one out plays the other...love it !

  • wow!

  • great! but can someone upload farlows version? pease;)

  • Great guitar sound and fantastic drummer, so melancholic.

  • Kreisberg gets me excited about jazz guitar: his trio is awesome. i been transcribing 'the best thing for you' off 'south of everywhere' and 'countdown' off 'trio-ing' but love this tune so much i'm gona start it right now! anyone else transcribing this stuff?

  • I just heard of him today... Talk to me again tomorrow

  • I've done a couple. I'll trade you if you like. I did Relaxing at Camarillo and My Ideal and they're pretty bad! I think that at the time when I did them I was obsessed with getting everything real accurate, so they're pretty precise. Nowadays I just go for intention rather than exactitude. Mind you, Kreisberg's a pretty accurate player; he doesn't miss too many notes! Mine are in pdf or sib format.

  • I don't think I have those tunes you mentioned. I have to admit to being committed to exactitude when transcribing but there is one bar in Autumn In New York that i just can't seem to get! its also one of the only transcriptions i have completed that makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up every time i play it! awesome voicings and great lines and a great example of the arc of a good solo.

  • Most definitely! Kudos, Jonathan :).

Try using Transcribe! for tricky lines. It's a great program. You can slow down anything at pitch.

  • @yifti I am friend. Very exciting!!

  • I didn't know about this guy, he's great, gotta check him out more!

  • some of his voicing choices are downright evil

  • great feel man! sweet!

  • Jonathan..Great interpretation of this standard!

  • Yes! post more Kreisberg!!!!

  • What a wonderful player. He is great!!

  • some great playing in this vid..

  • Jonathan Kreisberg is the real deal. Damn this is good.

  • one of the best guitarists around... tx for the video
