Songs about depression and the need to be something imo. Some people find inspiration in pain. More often than not our favorite songs are metaphorical accounts of someones broken heart or shattered existence even if that tragedy happens to be their day to day life. Some of the best artistic inspiration even achieved in history was found at the darkest point in those peoples lives. I think this song is about that dark place somewhere between suicide and hope.

My take is it's about her initiation into the occult, lower I get the higher I'll climb sounds like what happens when you make "sacrifices" (which she also mentions repeatedly) and possibly getting "dark" (possessed) right before she "shines" on stage. No good to anyone because all she cares about is being number one, speaks for itself really, nothing else matters. Doing these things which seem shocking at first but leave you jaded after repeated exposure could leave one feeling numb. ^^
